Hi guys, i have an Audi A3 TDI 140, I put £25 in and that gets me about 4 Gallons, im lucky to se 125miles, i drive about 80% around town and 20% on short dual carridge ways.

Ive changed the air filter, im going to change the fuel filter tomoz

cant see these makin much difference

really stressed, i bought this car for economy, i was getting same mpg in my Megane F1 :-(

Help

Hole in your tank?lol it sounds silly but deisels arnt great round town, i get abot 30.7mpg from a 1.9dci citroen.

Considor a remap geared towards economy. I got a performance remap but it at least added 5mpg more. Around town, driving sensibily I can get 40mpg minimum.

as standard these should be getting 40mpg around town

The engines got some kick as you know so I could be getting 35-40mpg but rev it passed 2500rpm for a few secs and the mpg comes tumbling down. Before you look at problems with the engine, see if your driving habits have any effect. Gear up before 2000rpm (torque can handle it), cruise in 5th gear when doing 30mph and general anticipation to avoid bringing the car to a halt too often.

Sounds about right, think yourself luck its not a Petrol! Do you get 40+ on a run?

getting about 38-40 on a good run :-(

i can hear bit of a hissing noise by my drivers wheel when idleing, kind of sounds like an air leak, soon as i rev the car it goes fro a minuite or 2 and then comes back, confused :-s

could it be a boost leak?? noise goes tho wen reved lol head work, also very slight air leak noise coming from pipe at the very top of my tandem pump, tandem pump is just above the water flange if this helps

The idea's to keep it between 1500-2000rpm whilst only keeping your foot on the accelerator very lightly... get about 50mpg around town like this. No point trying to keep it below 1500rpm as the engine seems to struggle too much and ends up using more fuel!

thas wa i been doin lol, iv motherd this car every day lolol, really dissapointed with it

ive managed to get 101 miles off quater of a tank, my partner had 150 miles off quater in a golf tdi

The only thing i could think of is to give the car a full service (filters and oil) and check the boost hoses for any leaks?

Yeah i just got 140miles from a quarter tank. (non sensible driving)

boost leak im thinkin :-(, can this effect mpg that much

i can get up to 60mpg in mine.
50 % a roads
10%motorway
40 % town driving

£30 gets me 230 miles

Try giving the car a good thrashing, then reset the mpg meter and go on a short sensible a-road run and see if it made any difference.

diesels are crap around town. my 1.6tdi gets 39-44 mpg in town but cruising is another story

2 weeks ago drove with a friend to nurburgring, filled up in bristol and when i got to the nurburgring i had 1/4 of a tank left (550miles covered). this was cruising at 85mph min all they way and in germany it was 110+mph for about 120miles!

i think i can tease 800+miles from a tankful doing 65mph all the way

his got the new engine. you aint getting any of that with urs, think he also has a bigger tank. weve got a new engine touran an can do a trip from london - manchester on a quater tank 240 miles :jump:

On a full tank in my 140 I get just over 500 miles. That's not an average, it's the actual mileage display as I like to reset it every time I fill up to make sure my economy is good. That being said I know the car is capable of more so after my next service I am looking to get the car mapped and would be expecting a good increase.
What most say is true though, on motorways diesels are great and I can get up to 60mpg on the motorway (usually it's around 50mpg) but in towns I need to make sure I'm not booting it off traffic lights and generally ragging it to get a reasonable 40mpg.
One thing I do though is try to drive the car in a higher gear as that helps with the mpg, so I can cruise at 30-35 mph in town and leave it in 4th gear and only really tap the accelerator when I need a little bit of juice.

I dont really drive eco, but i dont rag my car either.

But doesn't cruising in high gear at low speeds/revs cause more wear to the DMF (more vibrations to dampen from the engine at low revs) and clutch (accelerating in high gear from low revs wears the clutch) ?

I only drive in higher gears when i am just cruising in town... not the constant stop and go traffic light situation but more of a easy moving and flowing traffic where i dont need to touch the clutch or gears.

MY BKD Diesel does about 600 a tank which I fill every two weeks or so.

This is quite a decent drive though with not much stop start and the car is also mapped.
