hi, just odered the haldex oil filter and plug off the tt shop.

cant find any info showing me how to do it. any help?? also do i need to use the haldex tool? or is it possible without it?

any tips on making the job easier?

thanks

James

i just did mine yesterday, yes you need the tool, makes it very easy with the tool for removing the filter. i did mine on axle stands but would be a lot easier if you have ascess to a ramp or a pit.

The car needs to be put on stands or ramps. You need a sealant gun and a piece of tube that goes from the gun to the hole to make it easier to fill it up.

A tool can be made but it's more hassle than buying one, just be careful to ensure that as little oil as possible falls out when you put the plug back in.

ok thanks for all the info.

got a sealant gun lying about, went to buy parts from tt shop and ended up being about 60 quid. is there anywhere cheaper??

I got the parts from Audi, was about £45 or £50 including VAT and they had the stuff in stock. It took a while to try and track down a spanner though!

yeah the tool is about 30 on ebay, would be much cheaper if i could borrow one. as its not often im going to use it.

It's a 46mm double hex socket

Bill, Can it be done without the tool or is it like trying to trown sticks at the moon. I do have access to a pit if that helps.

There is very little room to get to the filter. I wouldn't even attempt it without the tool especially as most places don't stock them so you'll be waiting for the postman to arrive to get your car back on the road if you don't manage to get it back in...

If it's anything like the clearance around the controller, it'll be tighter than a nuns chuff.

Gsf sell the tool cheaper as do vwspares - i got mine from here inc oil and filter.

Haldex filter tool is Laser tool numer 3938. £20.99 on ebay

Oil is cheap from the dealer, cheaper than most online retailers, even before post. I had mine on ramps, and pushed the oil in with a screwdriver in the end of the tube, it's not like sealant, it comes out very easily indeed and just needs 'something' pushed up the end of the tube as it were...

Cheers for the link Endacy... ordered it and should be here tomorrow.

If anybody wants to buy it off me for £15 after I have used it and pay the postage too pm me :)
