Hey guys,

Just been in contact with a woman on a pistonheads sale for an 8p a3, and hse said hse has signed the car over to Pistonheads as she is away on business, i asked if i could view the car as i was very interested this is the reply i got:

Hi,

I am afraid PistonHeads doesn't organize private viewings or cash on delivery due to the bad experiences they had with a lot of timewasters and tyre kickers just wanting to test drive not to buy.
This is how the transaction is going to take place :
To verify you are a serious person and genuinely interested in purchasing the car you will first have to send the £3.700.00 by bank to bank wire transfer to a PistonHeads managed bank account.
As soon as the payment is received and verified PistonHeads will deliver the car to your address and offer you a 24 hrs inspection of the car.
If you will decide you want to keep the car PistonHeads will forward your payment in my bank account and the sale is concluded. If you will reject the car PistoHeads will refund your payment into your bank account and collect the car from you (absolutely no extra charges for you).
During the 24 hrs inspection period you can take the car to a garage or have it RAC/AA inspected,I absolutely welcome any checks you want to perform on the car and documents.
This is a 100% secure system for both buyer and the seller because I will receive your payment only after the car is delivered and inspected by you.
I used to work in the car sales business and I`ve used PH Buyer Protection to complete distance sales all the time,it is very very easy to use and absolutely safe for both buyer and seller.
PistonHeads will contact you with all the payment details and instructions as soon as I have started/authorized the sale.I can get things moving asap and we can finalize the sale this week all I need is your name, delivery address and contact number(s).
I look forward to your reply and hopefully to a smooth sale

Does this seem wierd to anyone, or is it a huge risk to take when buying a car?

i have to pay to view it? :s

Signed it over to pistonheads while she is away? Sounds pretty ****** dodgy to me. I'd say walk away.

That sounds pretty dodgy. I would maybe ring pistonheads or something and try and clarify whether thats real or not

Sounds like a scam to me. Would just forget about it to be honest.

If it seems to good to be true or too unrealistic hey presto it always is!

Defiantly a scam. The car will be cheap to attract a lot of people.
Don't hand over any money before viewing anything.

A friend of mine got scammed a few years back on a 8L S3.
Same type of story, he lost £1500!

It's a scam. Scammers are hitting Pistonheads pretty hard at the moment. This is the third one i've heard of in the last month. A friend had someone trying to scam him out of his super charged Elise just last week and another guy I know had someone try to scam him on the sale of his GT3. They payed a cheque with the reference BACS so it looked like a transfer of funds then cancelled the cheque. Luckily he didn't hand over the keys.

Not the same as this scam but I would be wary of anything that doesn't go like an old fashioned viewing and cash in hand in person sale from there now.

Agreed, stay away.

Pistonheads seems to be rife with this kind of activity, in my experience at least anyway.

I had any number of scammers getting in contact when I was selling my last car - if it seems to good to be true, and/or if you feel uncomfortable then stay clear I say.

As many have said its a scam.
You cant sign over a car to pistonheads. They have nothing to do with the sale you just advertise it on their site.

The fact you felt like you needed to ask the question should be enough to tell you to RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

Is this what you were looking at: Audi : AUDI A3 WHITE 1,6

Blatant scam - same as the autotrader scams, they always put their contact details in one of the car images and implore you to contact them via email address. I mean, cant receive messages through PH? They created the ad there so they can receive messages there...

The fact you felt like you needed to ask the question should be enough to tell you to RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

Couldn't have put it better myself - forget about this car mate

Yeah it was that white A3 i thought it was dodgey straight away as i sent various emails before that, and on each one i asked the original colour of the car and never got an answer on it, thanks a lot for the help and saving me my money guys its highly appreciated.

The search continues....
