HOWTO: A must do mod - poly dog-bone mount!

Mine's just arrived (Red). Will report back once I've fitted it along with Haldex blue and a new thermostat this weekend.

You won't believe the improvement it makes to the feel of the car, and for under £20. BARGAIN.

Anyone got a nocking noise after fitting this?..when going over pot holes etc,

Its a nocking noise when i go over pot hole etc just from the drivers side.im gonna take it off again and torque all the nuts up and try then.im sure it has only started since i fitted it!.

Nope mate ive done all that,i dont have a arb.i have new wishbones, new top mounts, new bearings etc and new coilovers!..i have just taken out the front coilover and the sharft has play so i put my old ones back in but still have the same problem!.

Got my deisal dog mount I'll post how it is. Will be done with new top mounts , lowered 30+mm more and a TT arb ;)

HEy, I changed my bush to the red diesel one......plus loads of other bits, ball joints, tie arms, full superpro front bush kit etc etc etc and then i got a knocking when pulling off, braking, turning, over bumps etc.....It was driving me MENTAL! Turns out that the rear engine mount is not supposed to be removed that often and being stretch bolts into aluminium they can wreak havoc with the threads in transmission.....Every time i removed the mount to look for the noise and the re torqued the bolts i was stripping a little more thread....it gave way on me last install......drove it to Midland VW and Jody heli-coiled it for me....knock has now gone.

The middle 16mm bolt was swinging in the threads, causing the knock.....not that common but getting more so as everyone is changing bushes apparently.

Can fault Midland VW top top garage, will defo be using them in the future.

Be careful with those bolts boys.

Hmm aint sure if its the mount as it sounds like a clanging noise, something loose!..perhaps i should get some new bolts then i can cross that off if its that or not...maybe the coils hitting each other?..it is very low!

One other thing, any other good mounts worth replacing/uprating?.

oh thats ok-ish. you think its worth buying them. dont think my dog mount has ever been changed tbh

Dont surpose anyone has the part numbers for the bolts please?

Can also vouch for this being a good mod for the money.

Awesome gti fitted mine on Friday and wow it makes a very noticeable difference. Would never have considered it had I not seen this thread so thanks guys.

Can I get a thanks for everyone that found this useful then please :) haha

Bit of help if poss please just doing mine now undone all the bolts but one of the heads on the 13mm bolts decided to snap off, how can I get the mount of now? Is there threads on the mount hole which the bolt goes through what will stop it sliding off or can I just try pulling it off over the thread what's left??????

There's no threads in the mount that comes off, there's only threads in the subframe. This happened on mine, I eventually managed to pull the mount off through the repeated use of heat/plusgas/hammer and screwdriver! I think lots of heat was the key though....

Very hard to press out.....stiffens it up a lot though. You can get void fill bushes, just fill the void in original bush...easy to do , stiffens it up by 17-20% for about £15....superpro void fill bush.....good comments about that on the interweb.

Agreed. The problem is that there is a happy medium between too stiff and too soft.

Too stiff will give you a LOT of vibration in the cabin which is very annoying and uncomfortable. Too soft allows excess engine movement.

I'd say that just doing the main bush is sufficient.

got mine done. cars shakes n vibrated from dashboard but not that bad! feels so much better! out my foot down n response is instant gears feel a bit better going in too :) defo worth doing.

Does anyone know what torque the bolt that clamps the bushes together should be? i.e. not the 2 x 13mm bolts and neither of the "long" or "short" 16mm bolts.

Hope that makes sense.

EDIT: Torque the compression nut to 20 Nm (15ft-lbs) + 1/4 turn
