Hiya,

Seriously thinking about entering into the s3 world, Just wondering... what is peoples opinions in the differences in standard 210 vs 225 engines? is there a real noticable difference?

really want a 225 but may have found a 210 that looks good and wonder if I should be patient or not to bother.

Your views appreciated.

gav.

people will say they feel the same, just a slightly more efficient revised map on the 225. remap exactly the same. no hardware differences between the later 210 to the 225, only the early 210 (apy engine code) differs, and thats very very slightly, just some emissions crap.

bottom line is, it dont really matter. but people try and use the 'BAM' as a selling point, which makes me lol.

BAM is no longer a selling poing now that road tax costs £260 :(

210bhp AMK's are in the same boat unless you manage to get a pre march 2001 facelift like Danes....

Back to the 210 vs 225 debate... should be noted that the 210 cars were marketed as 210bhp while the 225's are in ps which is approx 221bhp...

As said though they all map up to the same power (subject to dyno lottery and other age/running issues etc)

<tuffty/>

Thanks for that guys.... What do you think of this then? AUDI S3 BLACK | eBay UK

Was bit worried if it had the older style separate indicator headlights on, I have been told they are xenons. Also I take it this is an early facelift model so would it be cheaper tax? I ave been told it's a 210bhp any thoughts on the engine is it going to be any good?

Thanks gav. Ps sorry for the noob questions.

its very brief. pictures aren't the best but you could always request more.
its a pre-facelift 210, will either be an APY or AMK engine. it will be cheaper tax bracket. mileage is good for the age.
me personally would want to know everything about it, all its history, the guy hasnt stated anything which is a pain.
FASH? or specialist history?
oil changes how regular?
any faults/lights?
can you scan it on viewing?
clutch changed when?
cambelt water pump changed when?
any rust? (roofrails is VERY common)
what parts has he replaced?

id be asking all these myself.
hope it helps

Agreed^^^

Looks cheap enough if everything adds up, i cant see it having history if he has not stated it, big selling point...
If no history my main concern would be the cambelt.....

It is a pre-facelift car that has had the rear lights and badge swapped for facelift ones.

Personally I would be wanting to know answers to all the questions that superkarl mentioned above and more. As I am sure you are aware these cars are getting to the age now where in order to keep them in top shape money needs to be spent on them. I would be slightly concerned that it has had 7 owners, and the mileage is quite low, not suggesting anything dodgy, but I would be very interested to know what service history it has. If the book is all stamped but it isn't all Audi it might be more difficult to verify. I would want receipts to back up stamps and also to confirm any other work that has been done, eg cambelt etc.

If you don't think its right, keep looking as there seems to be plenty for sale at the moment, I looked at several before I bought mine.

Good luck!

Chris

Just been to see it... Just a few q' s for you guys....

1. Is it really a pre facelift:-( I must admit the headlights did disappoint separate indicators....etc
2. No cup holders:-(
3. Good service history cambelt and water pump done at 70k
4. Audi s/h up to about 60k quite a few receipts
5. Had a feel under the car, generally dry slight bit of oil somewhere the engine bay passenger side, not dripping bad
6. Small 5mm piece of rust on drivers side sill.

If it really is a pre facelift I'm gutted, and like you say why had the rear lights been changed and rear badge?

Also I thought the pre facelift models had not as flared wheel arches or am I imagining it?

I'm all confused! It is a really nice moter but really wanted a facelift. Any ideas what I should i do? Said I would let the geezer know tomorrow (sat)

they all have flared wheel arches. If its got separate indicator units then its pre-facelift. If your not 100% on it then don't get it just keep looking. I am sure that with the current price of fuel that there will be plenty for sale.

People change the rear light clusters on the pre-face lifts to the face lift type because they look better

BUMP
