Finally got the winter wheels and tyres fitted - even on wet/icy roads car seems to have a lot more grip. Getting used to the softer ride now the 19" wheels are off!
Now all I need is some more snow to prove that our 03 plate Golf with skinny tyres is not really better than an A6 Quattro in the slippy stuff!
