i ve been through 4 litres of water in 2 days something is not right (i have used it about 4 times ), my headlight washer caps are sitting proud of the bumper. anyone know whats going on ?

Funny you should post this, I refilled mine 3 days ago and 90 miles later need to do so again, I put it down to all the crap on the roads needing frequeent wash wipes.

Washer bottle/pipes could have cracked due to not enough good quality screen wash concentrate, so the weak solution freezes and expands and breaks things. Always best to empty it all and stick a winter ready mix screen wash in before the freeze starts.

A mate of mine has an astra that only had water in the coolant system and that froze and expanded and cracked the head. Powerful stuff.

You need to push your headlamp washers back flush into the bumper when it's slightly warmer. It seems when they are slightly elevated, the washer fluid just leaks out!

I had that with my car when i got it and the headlight washers were sitting proud too
Turned out they must have got frozen at some point with the previous owner and they wouldn't go back down fully even when pushed so i had to replace the two headlight washers cause they just kept spewing the screen wash onto the ground
fairly straight forward job to replace them though, the hardest part was getting the damn caps off the washers

Im having the same problem with mine mate, I took the car into my local Audi specialist yesterday and its something to do with the headlight washers not functioning properly due to the freezing conditions like the guy above posted. They said dont worry about it as its not expensive or time consuming to fix, so im just gunna keep topping up the water and go back to get it fixed when the weather gets better.

I just looked up my receipts and the two headlight washer pressure cylinders were £56.42 +vat EACH from Audi

part numbers are
8L0 955 101
8L0 955 102

if you need new washer caps were £10.04 +vat there part numbers are
8L9 955 275
8L9 955 276
they come primed so unless you want them plastic grey you need to get paint as well which was about £13 for paint and lacquer.

I had to replace my caps as I ******** them getting them off, does anyone know an easy way to get them off without buggering them?

holey ****! thats seems a lot for such small parts. the guy I spoke to said mine weren't broken and didnt need replaced, just needed a bit of tinkering to get them back in place and working properly, hope he's right, dont fancy forking out £120 odd quid to get them replaced haha. hope its the same for you mattyboy..

Yeah I tried to push the old ones back in and open one up to see if I could replace any seals inside or anything but I couldn't get it open, so as work had been going well back then I decided ****** it just bought the new ones

I hope they are fixable for you guys

My tank has emptied over night!!! Could it be the tank that has split or will it be the pipes. Also any one know were the above pipes run?? Thanks

where was the puddle in the morning (or more likely the patch of ice)?

the tubes from the headlight washer run from the tank straight to the offside washer then along behind the bumper to the nearside one (big fat pipe, not sure the diameter 20mm maybe???)

Guys, point from Audi mechanic (whether you trust it is another matter!). He mentioned what Joe has said above (the pipes expand due to the water freezing) and this pushes them up. It takes a while for them to thaw out, so just leave them if they are proud. When the weather warms up, they will go down of their own accord.

I washed mine yesterday (still warming up!) and noted they started to go back down as bucket upon bucket of warm water went onto the car. Left if in the garage over night as was fitting my new armrest and they're now level! They don't work still, but neither did my windscreen washers, still -2.5 here!!

pushed mine back in yesterday then took the car in for a service they re-filled the bottle & so far so good will check the level again in a few days

there was nothing on the floor as i could see. Which is what confusing me!! Fingers crossed it is only the tank that is split cause i cant be bothered stripping the bumper off...
