I know a couple of locals (PAul and Dani) are eager for info on this - in brief i needed a new number plate trim as mine had corroded, the rear bumper had a 3 inch split and the drivers side was keyed 4 days after ownership (3 years ago :) )

my dilemma was to go for a lad I knew who quoted £450 cash, or an old fella in Sheffield who i had had good recommendations for - £250  Anyway, i initially was prepared to pay upto £600 including having the front bumper sprayed.

Overall im happy with the result, the rear bumper material was thinner than he thought so its not an entirely perfect repair, but im pretty damned chuffed with it!! I took most of the trim off including the side blades (luckily didnt break the clip on the rear side blade), i didnt realise but upon picking it up he told me he had removed the whole rear quarter window....which isnt a small task!! just to make sure its a proper job...the rear bumper needs a polish as hes flatened it but thats no biggy, the passenger side had quite a bit of overspray for which ive just spent the best part of 2 hours removing, thank god i had auto tardis!! (now clayed ready for a wash tomorrow), other complaint is a slight overspray on the drivers door interior piano trim but its only minor and prob a result of having no rear window...... oh and the final bill was £300 as he spotted a slight nick in the rear bumper grey trim so took it to the paint place, got a colour made up and repaired that for me too.....

Would i go again? definately.....for the price and for what hes done i cannot grumble at all, a much better job than ive seen most places do and he even washed it for me, ok not very well but at least he was bothered - i think perfection is hard to get from bodyshops, if you do get it, 9/10 you will pay wey over and im not far from it as it stands.... absolute bargain of a job

pics will follow if tomorrows a good day, gonna wash then werkstat it before the cam comes out ;)

Be good to see the after pics fella, i remember seeing the key mark, some people need their fingers breaking for such acts of vandalism IMO. How much was the rear trim? Mine is also rusting in the corner.

yeah cant tell you how annoyed i was at the time, luckily ive managed to get a parking space at work now for the bargain price of £40 a month..... only been on waiting list 3/4 years :)

rear trim was £70 from Stoke Audi IIRC....comes primed, you will need the seals to go with it though, dunno what they cost (wont be much)as i have just recycled mine purely to get it on the car today.... super glue does wonders haha

So a side, a bumper(plus repair) and the trim painted for £300, bargain of the centery even taking into account the overspray etc as it can be fixed. Had you paid £600 you would be bouncing up and down over the overspray,LOL

Then you could end up like poor Tuffty, having them attempt to fix it a half dozen times.( poor sod)

a parking space at work for £40 a month *** I complain when I don`t get 2 at work lol

funny thing is im still on the list mate @ number 35....mate is not using his so im paying him what it costs :) even as a manager you dont get in front, everyone has to wait due to the amount of people that work there

thats what i thought, even if it was a bodge then another £450 would have only meant £700 which is £100 more than i was prepared to pay...obviously not including the extra £50 for the trim to be done

2 bumpers too ;)

Very good mate, glad your happy with it, cant wait to see the pics :).

cant wait to get out and wash it mate....its ready for the Werkstat just needs a final wash and fettle with the detail brush/foam pre wash first - its only just stopped raining and F1 is on at 12!! :( looks like an after 2pm job :)

oh and it's John Chapman bodyshop Dani if your thinking of nipping over....I said to him to expect to see at least one other S3 before long :s3addict:

Any excuse chief, haha.

Defo, only thing is im starting my new job tuesday, ive had 4 weeks off and i never thought about nipping over, doh, haha.

nice one on the job fella......

well i thought he might get at least one visit from one of ya maybe...no biggy if not ;)

we're going back to have Tara's done eventually, bonnet, both sides, both bumpers including stripping and replacing a complete door (as the drivers is corroded along the bottom) - £600 :) and thats kingfisher so may cost slightly more for the paint i presume?

I got my front and back bumper sprayed and the tail gate trim done for £200 last year. He did a good job but my front bumper has got quite alot of stone chips in it already.

yeah thats my worry, you never know how strong the laquer is going to be when compared to original.... i dont think they can replicate the factory at all despite all the baking facilities these days..... mines only been in a low bake oven so gonna be a bit more cautious for a few weeks

Ye I know what you mean. I took my car back and said it took the Audi paint 8 years to get to a state were I thought they need to be sprayed and its taking my new sprayed bumper less than a year. Not happy with how my front bumper worn, the rest im happy with.

A friend of mine told me that he didnt prep it very well and thats why it stone chips so easy. It will make you think twice to about playing with other cars on the road if your behind them.

haha it wont but i dont tend to sit that close to other cars in the same lane :)

the paint on my bumper is a good match but seems a slightly different texture on the lower half, duno if this just needs flatting or if its a different type of laquer.....

ok heres a few pictures after a couple of hours valet...... yesterday i got rid of the overspray on the passenger side by using Auto tardis tar remover and by claying.....

today the cars been foamed, dried and then werkstat primed followed by a single coat of werkstat trigger.... followed up with some megs tyre shine, AG window cleaner for which it started to rain as i was wiping it off... oh and i managed to try out my newly acquired Britemax twins chrome cleaner on the exhaust and mirrors (using fine wire wool and microfibre)

the front bumper could do with being flattened lower down and you can see inside the door handle where it also need flatting....overall though im pretty damned chuffed, not a spot of orange peel on the main panel at all, you really cannot tell its been done

oh and you can see where i missed a bit of sealant above the grey trim on the rear bumper....i was battling against the weather in my defence ;)

I really really like that S3! looks fantastic! Love that grey colour too

good work bud... glad it all worked out in the end... goes to show that cheap isn't as bad as it sounds... I have been fighting the temptation to DA all the overspray off mine as its doing my head in waiting for Audi to sort their ***** out...

<tuffty/>

yeah i can feel that mate, would imagine it would be easier than using Tardis :) ....... im always of the opinion that you get what you pay for, trouble is with bodyshops the bulk of what ya paying for is labour which varies so much, otherwise id never have gone to him mate..... gotta say i was bricking it before picking up

Tim cars looking lovely and clean :) the paint work looks good aswell, cant even tell. Glad your happy with the finish

Car looks banging mate, the old boys really done a good job of it and especially for the price too.

Looks great! I'd be very surprised to find a body shop down south that would do that work for anywhere near that price!

Tim, it looks great chap. Take it your well pleased :)

All that needs to happen is this guy to open up near me so he can do my bumpers for me.LOL

Looking good !!!
