Got these done on Monday mate.
I got them refurbed then sprayed in matt black.....
Pic's will go up on the weekend after a good old spit and polish
I recently had mine refurbed, then spray painted by a local bodyshop and I was delighted with the results. They were in a really bad state and apparently had been refurbed at least twice before... very badly!!!
I know the colour looks a bit different in the pictures but it's just the White Balance that gives that impression. I've previously had wheels powder coated and comparing both I would say that painting gives a much better finish.

Its your own choice really, I went for powder coating as there was a deal going on at a local powdercoater's, The arguement could go on forever of which 2 methods are better.Powder coating doe's not damage your wheels as some folk may think,the only benefit I can think of by painting is extra coats of lacquer to help against protection.

I had mine done matt black, but I would say it is closer to satin rather than matt.
I dont think it is possible to get a proper matt finish with powder coat.

haha so true mate , i painted mine in work myself not bad job but not as good as a paint shop

My attempts at sorting things are almost one comical event after another.
I could explain my 3 hour ordeal at trying to take some passport sized photos last week!! Yes you read right - 3 hours!!

My understanding is that painting gives you more options on finishes and can give a much nicer finish when first done. Powder coasting is supposed to be a more permanent finish which wont succumb to general wear and tear so easy as painted finishes. In the end it's all down to how well you look after them and whether they get curbed or not.
Either way, ideal starting point would be to dip them to strip off original finish, so any remedial work if required to the rims, then paint or powder coat as required. It's a bit like asking do you put milk in a cup of tea before the water or after; either way you still have a cup of tea at the end of it, just down to personal preference

Not to hijack the thread but has any1 got any pics of the a3 s line chunky 5 spoke alloys done in white ? As im considering powdercoating them white i think would look good on my black a3 , cant find no pics on the net though
My concern regardin powdercoating is that I understand that the wheels will be baked for a few minutes at ~200 degrees celsius and this may affect their shape. Also After the tyre is refit, when balanced, they will need more weight than before.
If now I only have 10-15 grams, after that they'll need like 80-90 grams. Which is huge I think.

Ok, so its two years old this thread, but if we use search we find things of interest and questions will be raised
Daz - did the work from North Yorkshire Customs stand the test of time?
Anyone else used them, or recommend anyone else in North or West Yorkshire for alloy wheel refurbishment?
Plasti dip with matte black then with a 50/50 mix of plasti dip gloss with matte clear for a satin finish
How anyone can say paint is better than powdercoat il never know! You can get the same finish with powdercoat clear if done correctly. It's 10 times tougher so you won't get brake dust eating in like you would paint. Plus Matt powder coat stays Matt it won't go shiny in patches when you clean it like Matt paint does. You can have any colour as the colour can be painted over powder primer then powder lacquered. Paint will take months to fully toughen in this time the damage will already be done. Powdercoat is good straight from the oven!
