I got my Private Pilots License today after 46 Hours of training.

Well done! Glad to see another aviator on the forum!

interesting how does one go about getting started, something ive always wanted to do, oh and what were your hours served on

you fancy some low flying in the Scottish glens? LOL

Its the cost that would stop me :-(

Well done, not easy.

When I enquired a few years ago, it was around £100 an hour for lessons, so god knows what it is now!

Well in brief. I trained on a Cessna 172 SP 4 Seater Single Engine @ £179 Dual rate x 45 Hours for the minimum required. Not including Ground school and exams etc + Travel expenses. Your looking at anywhere between 5-8K depending on how good the training you want to be / experiernce. Solo rate once passed can vary from £140 - £160 inc fuel per hour

I can safely say it's the best thing I have ever done. Next Stop CPL License ( Commercial )! Beats the S3 anyday I swear :) but each to their own.

Followed my dream!

Here is the plane I learnt on

If anyone wants a pleasure flight in Wales, after I have a little more exprience then let me know. As I'd love to take people up and also to build my hours. A small donation of £45 Per hour is required :) Just to help fund the hour for me also.

Or also know as audi-sport.net charter for non profiting purposes of course.

hmm if you werent in wales mate id take you up ont he offer, decent price there

Congrats! :) It's a great feeling and there is nothing like a bit of solo flying! Unbeatable experience that everyone should have at some point - boy I miss the fun stuff! I've got 2200 commercial hours but would never say no to a bit of bug splatter time!

2200 hours very good. Will keep people informed.

David

2200hrs?! Me too! And I got a black edition and live close! How freaky is that????! Keep it up, I love my job and few people can say that!

Congratulation Dave!

On a slightly off-topic note, did I see you on the M3 the other weekend?

No it wasn't me. Thanks for the comment. Anyone wishing a small flight let me know, £45 an hour contriution towards my cost per hour is around fair considering the £179 per hour.

David

It's got to be done though. Get that stick out anyway! :)

Us pilots must have good taste then! Waiting for me BE to arrive though if Audi would pull their finger out! Can't wait to get rid of my Seat Ibiza so I don't have to deal with Arnold Clarke anymore! Grrrrrr! Cowboys! Pm me just to ensure we don't work for the same company! lol

Congrats, now you're truly free. I have a PPLH - learn in the US then transfer - it's A LOT cheaper lol. I've been toying with doing my PPL.

I'm a skipper on one of the larger bizjets and can safely say I wish I was doing more flying in 172's, never had as much fun as when I used to teach on them. Can still remember the days I passed my PPL and did my Quali-xcountry!

Just get some air traffic guy telling me how high, how fast and in which direction now - very boring.

Enjoy the flying for now, dont worry about the CPL for a bit, if you do commercial you'll end up doing no flying whilst you get the exams done....

And well done on the license - are they still brown?

Right.....15 Hours Condolidation and then start the IMC rating!!!!

Well done mate ! i have an NPPL and have my own glider ! done about 450 hours in gliders now ! There seems to be a few people invlove in aviation on here must all have good taste!

On a different note any of you aviators had a detachable towbar fitted on A sportback a3 ???

Need one for towing my glider lol :)

Oh and where abouts in wales are you mate!

Congrats.

I fly for a living too - seems to be a few here that do! Don't get to do the SEP stuff anymore, so enjoy it. The feeling of freedom is pretty unbeatable.

All the best :salute:

I never knew there were so many pilots on here! :)

Yeah the licenses are still brown, I am flying out of caenafron in Wales but I am based in Bolton. A long treck I know but the scenery over there beats Lancashire hands down! Makes the flying more enjoyable too.

I know the market is pretty dump at the moment for the CPL, but if my judgement serves me right, after a few years of building hours and IMC / ATPL theory etc. By the time I do my CPL things may be just starting to pick me up, so timing is no too bad really.

The cessna 172SP is great, nice hands of feel on final approach. What's it like on the Jets then? Go on tell me please :)

David

May aswell add me to the Aviator list! Got my PPL(H) about a month ago. Currently on 80hrs. Flying Robinson R22 Heli's. Doing my commercial exams at the moment at Bristol Ground School.

Also supprised at the amount of fellow pilots on here!!

Its crap mate, you'd hate it

Brother flys an airbus, I fly a rather large sporting bizjet, he wants my flying and performance I want his Roster!

It quickly becomes just a job after a few months mate, but theres no point telling you that is there!

All the best with your career mate, have a look at Westair at Blackpool they've got a nice 172SP for hire (I picked it up when they bought it) and its much nearer and they're a freindly club

I have just checked that out, seems reasonable.

Gold Membership

Want the benefits of a group owned aircraft without the strings? Then Westair's "Gold" membership may be the thing for you! For a monthly fee of just £80 you can fly our fuel injected Cessna 172S G-OWST for just £69 per hour wet. (terms and conditions apply).

Is the aircraft easy to get hold of, or is it a nightmare?

David

Damn so many pilots on ASN, nice to see a variety of vocations on here huh.

Well done Dave.

So what colour is the plane going to be, as you've almost maxxed out the rainbow colours with the cars. :p

I know people that have more hours to pass a simple driving test,LMAO

Nice one mate

My friend learnt in the US on an intensive course and transfered it over, said it was much cheaper and he got a holiday to boot.
