Mine was exactly the same, but I've now got 2500 miles on it and it's up to low 60's / high 50's - I've even seen 70mpg on a run when I was taking it easy!
It will improve... Mine has just turned 2500 miles and the economy has improved from low 50's to high 50's/low 60's and I've seen almost 70mpg on long runs...
One thing I have noticed is an irritating rasp under light acceleration though and if it's not used for a couple of days, it runs like a...
I've been quite surprised... Even in 6th, if you put your foot down it still pulls, although I do tend to change down if I'm going up steep hills! But I'll accept the slight inconvenience and take the extra 10mpg over the 2.0TDi any day!!

Quick update... latest trip was 59.something and I've seen 60 average too... So it's definitely improving, although I tend to sit at 70-75 on the motorway...
Agreed - in 'Economy' I'm sure it would have better fuel consumption but there feels like there's a thick piece of rubber between your foot and the accelerator pedal!! I've tried 'Auto', 'Dynamic' and 'Economy' and have stuck with 'Dynamic'...
I guess it depends what the 'standard' setting is...
