    RS3 grill

Pretty clearly states that it won't fit an S3, I think. My opinion is that an RS3-look grille like that is a surefire way of making an S3 look like a more basic A3 model with "custom" add-ons.

    Rising used car prices.

I did the opposite, in that I used Covid as an excuse to sell my 2014 A3 1.4 TFSI 140 in that price bracket and get back into a performance car - a 2018 S3. With a remap and decent spec including leather interior, the A3 felt very good for the money and it's a downgrade you could tolerate...

    Rising used car prices.

There are lots of things going on in the used car market - but I think new car supply at the top of the chain is the biggest issue sustaining high prices. I personally feel that increased used car prices are here to say. Pre-pandemic, a "normal" year of new UK car registrations was about...

    5 alive! Introducing my 2018 S3...

I found the part number for the wheel and then sourced it on Ebay. The going rate for a used, scuffed wheel was around £180. I thought I'd buy one of these and then have it refurbished. Handily, an already refurbished wheel came up at £280 - so I bought that. The tyre was a further £88. £368...

    Extended warranty

I bought my S3 recently at 3 years old and might have been eligible for this, though of course it wasn't available at the time. I decided to chance my luck without a standalone warranty, as my cars have tended to need work at 5-7 years (usually suspension) rather than 3. I'm running mine at an...

    A3 2.0 TFSi Engine thoughts?

I had two 2.0T of the previous generation 8P model. They were a great package, though admittedly the lower-order petrol powertrains weren't as well developed in those days. Since then, I think there's been a polarisation: the likes of the S3 have moved the bar higher and taken with them a good...

Buying a known but not ideal car? (Golf TDI / ULEZ / city car content)

^ That's probably the conundrum in a nutshell. I have an illogical liking for that Golf, but haven't been able to find a logical use for it.

    5 alive! Introducing my 2018 S3...

New wheel and tyre on: Pirelli PZero Nero GT are a new tyre to me. Matching one with the four already on the car cost a reasonable £88 fitted. The existing (scratched) wheel will be re-finished once I get some time to make arrangements. Now though, we're about to set off on a 400-mile trip...

    Diesel or not?

I can't see that you'd save an enormous amount of money by swapping from a 2011 8P S3 into an 8V 2.0 TDI. Yes, fuel would cost a little less on your commute... but it's not a big saving compared to depreciation. While getting a newer 8V A3 might possibly see fewer repairs in the future, you'd...

    5 alive! Introducing my 2018 S3...

The inevitable happened in the last few weeks - a wheel met the chunky kerb outside our house, while the car was being driven by my wife. I gave up making a big deal about this sort of thing a very long time ago and don't even mention it to my wife... I suppose it's just a small thing in the...

1.4 TFSI 150 COD Remap options

I remapped my 1.4 TFSI 140 CoD as soon as I had it and was happy with the performance. I didn't tend to wring it out very often, so noticed the torque a bit more than the power (c. 170hp, 220 lb.ft). The 1.4 was a seriously impressive lump - and I even thought so without the map. I would...

Buying a known but not ideal car? (Golf TDI / ULEZ / city car content)

The zone would get in the way of lots of local trips and anything north of where we live. At the moment, I use the van as our second "car" for 100-milers to visit my parents - but the CAZ will mean a big detour unless I use a non-chargeable vehicle. So, realistically I'll use the S3 more. My...

Buying a known but not ideal car? (Golf TDI / ULEZ / city car content)

The idea would be to use it around the edges of the zone - a lot of our family sporting activities etc are south of the zone. But yes, the risk of either straying into the £9 zone or having to plan things around is it certainly a concern. I'm just trying to figure out if that outweighs the...

Buying a known but not ideal car? (Golf TDI / ULEZ / city car content)

I have a 2013 VW Transporter (camper-converted) and a 2018 Audi S3, which serve our current family needs well. My wife doesn't drive the van. We live in a city centre, just on the very edge of a new low emissions zone. Soon, many of the van's journeys will become chargeable at £9 a pop (it's...
