From what you have described it sounds like the bumper is repairable.
If it's a metallic paint finish the the whole bumper would need to be painted.

I bought mine used approved when the car was 3 years old. Luckily for me the original owner took out a 4 year warranty which was came in useful for a few issuses that wouldn't have been covered under the used approved.

I had a similar problem with mine and noticed that when I turned on the heated rear screen I would usually lose reception completely. Turned out to be the rear screen antenna and was solved by a replacement screen. Luckily this was covered under warranty [emoji4]

Mind does it to varying degrees but when the dealer checks it they say it's ok. When I complain they say they will investigate it if I'm prepared to pay the labour to remove the box, refundable if it's found to be covered under warranty. It's not bad enough at the moment to chance having to pay...
Extra segments illuminate in cold weather temperatures. Since I bought mine in Feb, I've only seen one extra segment below 5k rpm illuminate and that was on a cold morning.
Technically, an anpr camera will still be able to read an incorrectly spaced plate but the chance of a misread increases.
The biggest cause of misreads is actually number plate fixings (screws and caps)
At the end of the day you have to decide for yourself if it's worth the risk of a fine.
