benifits to blanking the egr ?

Better throttle response, and the valve gets clogged up with black soot and gunge over time. Engine runs better with clean air going into it, rather than recirculated exhaust gases.

benifits to blanking the egr ?

I have a 03 2.5tdi, engine code AKE, and the EGR is completely blanked off, and has been for about 12 months. It hasn't brought the EML light on.

    TDi Timing

Thanks - I have now managed to check the pump timing, and it's within spec. Again - many thanks for your help.

    TDi Timing

Thanks for your help and reply. This is a log of the engine control module (fault scan) I did yesterday. Is that what you mean by log? Does it help? Thanks.

    TDi Timing

I have a fully registered vcds, and tried to check the injection pump timing. The software is up to date, but the "TDi Timing" box on the screen is greyed out - so it can't be accessed. Why is that? I have a 2003 B6 2.5 180 TDi Quattro Sport Avant- engine code AKE As far as I'm aware, it isn't...

Trolly Jack vrs standard jack points...

Same as most people on here - I always use a small 2 tonne trolley jack under the proper jacking points on the sill. The cutouts in the cup locate under the sill to give more security. I can understand why the standard jack is called a 'widowmaker' - it looks unstable, and could easily bend and...

EGR blanked off now got EML on.

Same here - EGR blanking plate fitted 6 months ago with no issues, and no EML. Deffo better and crisper performance without it. I was told by a mate (who also happens to be an auto electrician) that only the later models with an electronic sensor fitted would bring the EML light on. Mine only...

Can of worms... Buy new economy or part worn premium?

And yet another vote for Falken 452. They are reasonably priced, and a good tyre.

    headlight bulb change

Very good advice. I've just changed my bulbs to xenons. Unless the headlight is pushed firmly all the way in at the bottom, the headlights end up, like mine, pointing at the tops of the trees!! So, had to slacken the torx 30 bolts again, and re-adjust. Also - changed the sidelights to 8 LEDS...

    Warm up time

I wouldn't put cardboard in front of the rad for the reasons mentioned by scott b5. FWIW, diesels take longer to warm up than petrols, and if you are getting warm air out of the vents within a couple of miles of start up, I wouldn't worry - it's doing it's job. Although I have the 2.5tdi, mine...

    Locking nut driving me nuts!

Garages, tyre workshops, AA/RAC breakdown etc should ALL know that using an airgun to overtighten a wheel nut / bolt can damage and stretch the thread, and can cause the nuts to shear, with disastrous consequences. Airguns are handy to use to spin the nut/bolt up, but then finish off with a...

    Winter wheels

Changed wheels on mine yesterday to 17" QS with Continental WinterContacts - so praying for snow now!! Guy that came to change mine - his next job was to fit 4 Vredestein Winter tyres on 20" rims to an A6 Quattro Allroad - he said the tyres cost over £300 EACH! Saw them in the back of his van...
