Slack in transmission, where to start?

Okey so the car feels pretty good right now a few weeks since the fitting but theres still a play/slack somehwere in the transmission. It's pretty smooth now between gears but when driving in lower gears (especially in slightly uphill when theres more tension) and then quickly press down the...

Slack in transmission, where to start?

New dogbone plus insert fitted. Huge improvement! Thanks a lot for the tips @prt57 Super smooth now between gears and I can drive around on first and second gear without the feel of jumping forward and that was the most bothering part before. There’s still a tiny slack when getting off the...

Slack in transmission, where to start?

Before I start, is it really just 40nm for the small bolts on the dogbone and 100nm plus 90 degrees for the big one? Especially the small ones with 40 seems very low but that’s the number I’ve been seeing around.

Slack in transmission, where to start?

I checked which one I have and it's the PFF85-504 I need so I ordered a yellow one. Hopefully it's not to much of an increase in vibrations. I read your take on it @prt57 in this thread: https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/powerflex-dog-bone-bush-pff85-504.326527/ If it's too bad I might go...

Slack in transmission, where to start?

Mine is manufactured in March 2008, looks like I should use the PFF85-504 then? Didn’t know that there was any difference in that one depending on when in 2008 it was made so thanks for the heads up. :) I think I’m going to try a new dogbone mount only first and see if there’s any improvement...

Slack in transmission, where to start?

Thanks! I just ordered a new rear mount, fingers crossed it will help or at least improve the slack. :)

Slack in transmission, where to start?

Thanks! After a little bit more reading I think I understand it. :) This thread was a great help: https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/engine-mount-query-2-0-tdi.261242/ Just to be sure, the dogbone (rear engine mount) is quite easy to replace, right? Just two bolts. It’s the two bushings...

Slack in transmission, where to start?

Ok thanks! So there’s no dogbone mount in the 8P model? Just these? Is it likely that any of these is the cause of the “flexy/jumpy feeling”I described in first post?

Slack in transmission, where to start?

Can’t seem to find the part number really. Does the 8P have a dogbone mount? All I can find is the gearbox mount which looks like a circular mount: I found this one though: That one seems to be fitted at the rear though so I guess it’s not the one?

Slack in transmission, where to start?

Thanks! Do you know if it requires any special tools or anything like that? Is it relatively easy to replace on my own? :)

Slack in transmission, where to start?

So I’ve got a manual S3 8P with about 70k miles on the clock and recently I’ve started to notice a slight slack in the drivetrain. It actually reminds me of when the flex disc on the drive shaft on my old Mercedes 190 got old and sloppy but there’s no such thing on the S3 as far as I know. What...

Possible to freshen up/lubricate rear caliper?

I ended up only replacing the pads, clean up and lubricate everything. The brake discs was a nightmare to remove so I gave up, the two spline bolts is placed so tight that it was impossible to get anything behind there to get them off so I just let the old discs stay on. They weren’t too bad...

Possible to freshen up/lubricate rear caliper?

I have watched a few Youtube videos to prepare myself and all of them is removing the disc without removing the carrier, is this not possible on S3? These for example:

Possible to freshen up/lubricate rear caliper?

No one knows if I need to do anything particular with the hand brake (like loosen up the wire etc) when changing to the new pads? Is it possible to push the caliper piston back without loosen up the hand brake? New discs and new pads should arrive in a few days so I want to be prepared :)

Possible to freshen up/lubricate rear caliper?

Ok thanks, then I'll just order a set of discs and pads and make sure to clean up everything when changing them and hope for the best! Do I need to do anything particular with the hand brake (like loosing the wire etc) when changing to new pads? I would imagine that the internal piston needs to...
