You can forgive a lot when you get up on a Saturday morning, the air is crisply cold, the car is clean and looking good, and you sit behind that flat bottomed wheel and give it the beans across a few country B roads. You can't have a marriage without a few teething faults.

Is that the last time you saw your car Paddy?

On a serious note - I hope they have sorted the Gremlins. If I were you, I'd be penning a letter to the dealer principle and Jeremy Hicks asking how their qualified technicians failed to apply some simple mechanical problem solving, instead relying ONLY on the their computers and resulting in you having all sorts done to the car that simply wasn't required. I'd be looking for some compo out of them...

Cheers Jamie
Just picked it up. £4376 inc VAT after i beat him down about £1k...
Parts were about £1200 and VAT was £650.

Health check says disc's and pads about 85% worn... Rad leaking..Oil film round Air con pipes and so on. I like Audi's and getting back in mine after 2 weeks in an A4 is excellent, it really is a fun car. I wonder whether even with its faults and bills if it is not cheaper to keep repairing it rather than spending out on a new S3 ? I costed one up today and it came out about £34k.. with a 2 year extended warranty ( once bitten..lol) I wonder if i would get a discount on that.. They said mine was worth about £8k so i would be looking at £26k balance which is not a problem..

My real problem is at 6ft4" i find the TTS and the 911/Caymans just too tight or i would go that route and never look back.

I think it would be a bit cheeky to go to Jeremy with a 6 year old car and kick up a fuss ! I mean its hardly Audi's fault their franchises are a bit crap.

And it it running ok now??

I would keep it.... Get some moneys worth out of it!! Or buy the 911....

Wow and ouch! but as you've said and I was thinking it too, its still cheaper to spend on yours than find a shed load of money for another. Ok, its had faults but you know it, love it and it suits what you want. The S3s are great but you've already said its not really what you want! You have time to choose but id say keep!

Glad you have it bad and there you go, a smile on your face driving it home!

Well thats always the point S, My heart is not in the S3 and it would lose more than todays bill in a few weeks out of the showroom. Coming down the lanes with high banks on the way home you cant help but smile when you listen to that Remus exhaust start to wail :)
Life is good and all is well at Paddy Towers again

thanks to all of you for your interest in my problems :)

I disagree paddy.
I work in Customer marketing for a big company and in this day and age it is important to recognise customer issues and try and support a suitable resolution.
Put it this way, you're toying with an S3, but due to the experience with your current car you're debating not to change... That's bad for business, so if hecan do right by you he may in turn restore your confidence ang get you to upgrade...
Either way, 10mins writing a letter could yeald good results.
I helped a mate get his 18month car replaced for a new one so I know they do take customer issues seriously...

Re getting a price on a new s3.
Go to broadspeed.com and spec it up. Use this to negotiate with dealers.
When I priced one up it had about 9% off.
I used the broadspeed price to negotiate my tt and the dealer matched it ;)

on a happier note saw this at motorhouse at stockport, god im tempted glad youve got your car back paddy plenty of money gone there then.:sadlike:

i have to say sarah it does look the dogs its funny i started the thread and that was sprint blue i had a play with.

Nice S3 there and reasonably priced for its age/mileage...

On the subject of S3 pricing, have 2nd hand ones gone up in price recently? I seem to remember around this time last year you could pick up a 30k'ish miles S3 starting at 16-17k? Some jokers on the trader are pushing S3's with 60/70k+ miles on and pricing them at 17k and up?

PS: Glad the car's sorted Paddy, shocked at the cost :(. As Jamie says, give the compensation route a go - nothing ventured....

Good post.

Comparing a 6yr old 3.2 to a 18month old S3 isnt exactly apples for apples, BUT, it shows you can go make the change for 15K not 26K !!!!
Still a fair chunk of cash but if you want a fast 8P car, then its the Daddy at the minute.
I stumped up 13K to go from a well specced REVOd MK5 Gti which seemed a lot, but it has made so much sense in the long run.
FWIW I paid 25K for a 4 month old car with a rrp of 30K! They are out there.

Say what you want about the S3, but after 25 cars in 15 yr, its the car Ive kept the longest, 2 yrs no less.
And even though Im in the position to change it, I have no interest.

Anyway Pad, joking aside, hope the old wagon is fixed :hi:

cheers
Paul

I was offered £17.5k in mid 2008 for mine with 17,500 miles on the clock from Audi dealer.

About 4 months ago with 32k on the clock I was offered £19.2k

Different dealers, go figure????

Yeah not sure whats going on there and it seems to be that S3 prices have at least held at the 17k'ish mark or increased regardless of age/mileage! Unfortunately, the notion of appreciation rather than depreciation doesnt seem to be apparent as far as my 3.2 is concerned...

Edit: I'm talking bottom end S3 prices of course

Is odd, but for once I'm grateful as it aids any change. One of the other reasons I bought the S3 was on the premise of residuals, and it's done OK. Mate bought a 3.2V6 Brera which is by far the prettier car and his car almost halved in value in year one.

The Brera is an Alfra Romeo so it halves in value each year every year. I like the 3.2 V6 engine and infact have just bought myself a nice slightly modded Golf R32 to run around in.

Nice one Mikey, is that as an interim whilst your having work done on the TDi, or just a play toy?

Holy **** - Nice one Mikey - how is it to drive? I think I know the answer but humour me :)

**** me Mikey, how does it go. Like stink I'd guess!

Nice one.

Thanks Paul..
the only reason i was talking £26k was, being a bit of a girl these days i was looking at DSG and because they are all newish, they are few and far between second hand and often the spec is rather lacking.. so therefore i was pricing a new one.

It goes quiet well. When i test drove it he hadn`t even done 600 miles since the turbo conversion so wasn`t allowed to rev over 5.5 K rpm as was still running in the engine. Not actually got the car yet as Rob is paying for the car to get checked at Vagtech and get a full service so waiting for that to get done first since if he takes it and there are any problems they get sorted free where as if i own and take i pay to get anything sorted. Trouble is Vagtech are moving at the moment. Here is the write up of the engine build. http://www.r32oc.com/members-rides/20497-my-hpa-blackjackd-r32.html

I thought you didn`t want people to know you where comming down to stay for the weekend ? :whip:

Oh sorry Sarah your talking about the car dam err yeah looking forward to that as well.....

S...I cant believe you have been seeing Mikeyboy on the side ! !! consider yourself dumped and the RS4 will be going back to Audi's tomorrow.
