3.2 vs s3

give it to em sarah if an s3 was 330bhp ye it would leave me for dead i even thought in standard trim it would leave me but it didnt 06 3.2 cost me £13000 last year the s3 brand new 2010 how much ?

not really fair to compare the price of an 06 car with a 10 car now is it??

guys im not dissing the s3 it was a sprint blue lovely looking car when we came to the last roundabout he turned right me left he slowed down to see what i had and the smiles said it all.

Destroy is a horribly overused word on car forums, and to be fair I think destroying is what a Bugatti Veyron would do to a Polo Bluemotion.

A car pulling away from another whatever it is, can hardly be termed as destroying.

To give you an example, on Top Gear they did an article on a VMAX for the Veyron. To make the first 155mph you need approximately 270bhp. To make the next 100mph (to 255mph) you need nearly 700bhp (due to wind resistance, car limitations etc.).

So for something like a 3.2 V6 which has about 250bhp, the extra 50-100bhp an S3 may have over the top actually doesn't make a night and day differences. It's tenths here, tenths there, and if that makes for 3 seconds a lap on a track like Bedford Autodrome (which is what the S3 beat the R32 Mk5 Golf by in an Autocar test), it's hardly conclusive.

As long as you enjoy what you have, then it's all good!

I've said pretty much exactly the same re the veyron and power/drag top speed before.

Yes destroyed is a very overused term

I agree but not really fair to compare tuned 320 bhp S3's with std 3.2s either..:)

have to agree with biggiep had a few bikes in my time the last an r1 hence me name god i miss those sunny sundays.

Having said that I did feel pretty smoked, if not 'destroyed' by Haz1's tuned S3, with another 80 odd bhp, at our Glasgow meet just there.
ALso I can safely say now with the right exhaust 2.0TFSIs do also sound great too, and for a few hundred will blow a v6 away!

Well lets face it Jonathan....he's over 50bhp short before he even starts the thing up :sob:

Hehehe.

None of them are super fast cars are they!

That said I bet a proper driver could woop my **** in a 1.6 compaired to me in my 3.2!

Well i think that's the point to be honest..

also i just dont get this..if i tune my car it will beat yours...because if you do...I willi tune mine back...it will beat yours :) its playground stuff :)

haa haa is this still going on??? Let them have their digs! if it makes them feel better! Wonder if any are actually good drivers.....hmmmm maybe not! lol

haha
am waiting for someone to say they are the stig... but of course they cant because im the stig!!
:tumble:

How do you know the Stig is male!!!! lol Hes only short!!!!

hes actually 6'1, but they only ever shoot him whilst looking through the wrong end of a telescope it all adds to the mystery and illusion :icon_thumright:

S3 ... :lazy:

3.2V6 ... :notme:

Roll on the RS3. Where do I sign???

Why pop the TTRS lump into the s3? :eyebrows:

Once upon a time when I was younger it would have been an interesting gig, but given some of the complexities of the new beasts I wouldn't dare. Even tuners are struggling to work to create successful mods for these temperamental beasts, I just want a fast car with a warranty!

well guys its still going this thread thought it would my wife finally let me loose on her car 08 tfsi 160 quite nippy but the turbo lag was not to good is it the same on the s3.

They do suffer from a certain amount of lag yes. This is very noticable if you drive a 3.2 normally due to there sometimes over sensitive throttle responce at low revs!

Haa haa this one will just go one as S3 drivers will say they map it to get rid of lag and get more power and so it goes on!!!!

Maybe one day someone will bolt that turbo onto the 3.2! All that power and the V6 roar!!! haa haa

hehe all this all it needs is a re-map seems too simple...... Especially after a few months after mapping alot of the S3 guys say what clutch/fuel pump/intake/exhaust do I need hehe.

Sarah have you looked at Storm Developments site? They are doing A3 3.2 V6 Turbo kits hmmmmmmmmmm DO IT!

haaa haa dont tempt me! I'd love to and maybe one day but seems alot to spend and im happy with it but would be loads of fun! I'll take a look, cheers

hehe yeah the way forward for big power I would say!

I went to uni with the guy who runs Storm (Andy). We house shared in Headington, Oxford in 1996.

Their Rotrex supercharger conversion on the 3.2 is fantastic, BUT, 'STOP PRESS' they are moving towards 2.0T conversions as that's where the money seems to be. Easy BHP for easy money!!!

Easy money for tuners or easy money for drivers?

wow, it'd be like a huge puzzle bolting that lot on!!! Would make a good thread on here though lol, under 4.5k too!

This is a good one...
How do you 3.2 drivers find corners with that big old lump up front ;)

Wonder how many have actually driven both?

Yup, driven Golf VR6 (Mk3), Golf R32 (MK4/5), A3 3.2 V6 (before committing to purchase S3), and S3.

I'll conceded the S3 lacks soul, but allows you to wring the most potential off the platform in my opinion for sensible wonga. I've spent under £3k on performance based mods and I'm ball-parking 350bhp. To get that kind of shove and handling balance from a 3.2 A3 how much would I need to spend (noting all the unsprung suspension on the S3 is lighter, the engine is lighter etc...).

Again, horses for courses, but it wasn't a decision I needed to spend long making.

Thing is J all this rubbish about big old lumps up front gets a bit boring...It only has 1 pot more than you RS and remember the VAG V6 is one of the lightest and most compact V6's around. The real problem is when it goes wrong...I spoke to Audi tonight and we are up to £5k now trying to sort a small misfire out on mine. Any more and it will be a write off at 42k miles...

No way! feel for you Paddy! Yours is like a puzzle gone wrong at the mo! :sos:

Do we have any fugures weight wise? I'm not so sure the s3 engine setup will be much lighter..... Turbo setup and all associates gubbins...
