replacing broken dipstick pipe?????

ive been stupid today i took my throttle body off as i had a split hose and wanted to clean it up and i managed to snap off the dipstick pipe.

how easy is this to change?
can it be done from the top or do i need to get under the car?

just pull it out mate..there well in but they are just pushed on. molegrips are your best buddy! think the dip stick thingy is £3 from the steelers. done the same with mine

I done mine recently £8 from main dealer, apparently they have a short life span. They do just pull off from the top, and simply just push the new one on. Takes about 5 minutes to do.

They go hard over time and snap off at the bottom... found the best way to remove to prevent bits from entering the sump is to use a long screw driver (or similar) and a hammer to push it off from underneath... should come off easily and in once piece...

i put a pipe brush, bong brush, whichever you would like to call em down mine. any bits fall down the pipe, they sit on the bristles. pull it out and the bits come with it. :icon_thumright:

luckily mine has broke about half way down i will try pulling it tommorow night.

paul is it easy to get underneath it and tap it out if pulling it doesn't work?

You have to remove the undertray to see it... left hand side of the oil filter looking from the front... get the car on ramps or stands then gently tap... there is a lip in the metal part of the tube going into the block just where you need to tap the bottom of the dipstick tube... make sure the long tapping device is on the orange plastic part then tap away...

A gentle upward twisting force is
all that's needed to remove.

Accessed from the top of the engine, a pair of long, angled nose pliers is ideal for the job.

I took the oppertunity of a broken one to make a minor mod. Mine broke near the bottom so i removed the whole thing, cleaned it up and re-joined at the break with flexible heavy duty rubber repair tape. Its a solid fix but now the tube has a pivot/springy point low down which means its now flexible and can be pushed to one side without breaking. It was meant to be temporary but has lasted and seems to work well.
