Sportec Mono 10 Vs BBS CH (18" or 19")

Hey peeps, help me out on this one.

I'm thinking about either or these beautiful alloys but am torn between doing the sensible thing and getting 18s although I really would like 19s.

The Sportecs are available in Anthracite which look uber cool and I really fancy the CH in anthracite as well but unfortunately you can't get them like that from the factory.

If I go for 18" I can use my current tyres which still have plenty of tread which is a bonus but I cant help thinking I'm going to wish I had gone for 19"

What would you do and why?

i got 19s and cant lower my car due to it rubbing on full lock, they are spacered out to the max too, tyres are 235 wide

so you may struggle with your already lowered car if you go down the 19" route

quite a bit of road noise from 19s too, but just drown that out with tunes

Let me answer your question. Nuff said really!

Very nice but my suspension may be too low to accommodate 19s without sacrificing handling. I think I'm going to do the right thing and stick with 18" alloys. I love my S4s but want to try out some lightweight alloys and will possibly get the S4s refurbed in anthracite. I really like both the CH and Sportecs but still cant decide.

I'm defo getting them, just a matter of time and availability. I'm going 18" as I want to retain handling, my car is booked in next saturday for a considerable amount of work in Awesome GTI. B8's/H&R's, Neuspeeds, Compbrake top mounts, new poly bushes throughout, air filter, Vagcom check, APR Remap/Cruise control and complete front and rear brakes.

I recently had a milltek put on so all in all i'm getting there. Last stage will be these monoblocks.

No it isn't cheap but it's going to be worth it in the end and Awesome GTI (Sarah I've dealt with) has been nothing but faultless so far. I'm sure if the level of service I've had so far is anything to go by the rest of it will be 100% as well.

I've made sure Sarah know's that I'm a perfectionist and like my car as such.

Yes Awesome are doing the £100 for cruise, not sure if it needs to be purchased with a remap though so check with Sarah first.

i think fingermouse has a set of sportecs on his car which look the dogs danglies.!!
if it were me i'd go for the sportec just as they're a little more rare then the bbs. cant go wrong with either in all honesty though!

To me the sportecs shout power and the bbs say class.

I quite fancy a set of ch rep's and have my rsII's mirror finished for summer use....not sure though.

Lovin the 19s but cant justify spending soo much and dont want to compromise handling and comfort.

How long have you had yours for and do you know how much they weigh? I read somewhere that they are about 12.5kgs each? Can you confirm?

Sportecs all day long. BBS are too common and dont suit the 8L IMO....they look good on the 8P though

I have a spare wheel without tyre so could weigh it for you tomorrow

oh btw they are made by mim of all people.

I also have a bent one outside that took a beating by the previous owner tried to get it repaired but not worth it tbh

Before i got my CH's i considered some sportec mono's and seem to recall that the sportecs worked out a fair bit heavier than the same sized bbs's

They are usually replicas at that price, genuine ones come in different widths and offsets, reps are 8" wide only and usually ET35 offset.

Wow, that's impressive for a 19" alloy and I'd imagine the 18" I'm after are even lighter... Weighing up my options at the mo (no pun intended) to either spalsh out on a set or get my S4's refurbed in anthracite.

and for one thing aren't 19"s known for destroying ball joints quickly?? and i think sportecs personally bit different to everything else and look the dogs
