Hey guys, just a quick one......

What pressures does everyone run their tyres at? Been experimenting and I am eager to know what everyone else runs at on OE alloys or aftermarket alloys....Obviously with the latter, tyre sizes vary with alloy size/width. So what pressures did you/do you choose to run?

usually always 32psi rear and 30 front.

depends on tyres.
I have 235/40 on 8.5J rims
30 front 34 rear. any more up front and I find it gets a bit understeery

Wnen I bought my 2.5 TDI last july I found all 4 were between 18 and 20 psi so I assumed there were problems because the sticker said 38 allround ! Pumped them up and they are all still thereabouts so can only assume that the previous owner did not bother but it must have dragged his mpg down.They are standard quattro 205 55 16s abit worn on the edges but this may be the low pressures he had had it for three years and never checked them because they seem to be older than that and will need renewing soon.

Interesting.........Thanks guys! I am running 36psi on 225/45/17's on 8J's. The car is a -45mm lowered V6 avant. I have gone off the reccomended S4 pressures which is 36 psi all round on exactly the same size rubber as I am using....What do you think/any feedback guys?

Do you not feel a bit unstable when cornering in the wet???

Tend to find especially the rear from about 34 up will feel like that unless your running a fully laden car, only time to increase your pressures. Give 32 a try n see how it feels, should make a slight difference.

Thanks Foxy! I will switch in the morning! Funny you should mention unstable wet cornering. I was actually thinking that tonight on the way to work!....All I am trying to do here is learn/grasp different tyre pressures and the effects they have on the overall performance/handling of the car (or any car for that matter).

Tyre pressures 32 psi all round for me have Dunlop Sport 9000 on 235/45/ZR 17...

I do swop the front to back from time to time to even out any wear with directional tryes that is the only way to do it..

32 at front, 34 rear, same pressures the Merc my wheels came from was supposed to run.

My wheels are 7.5j at the front, 8.5j at the rear (the Merc was RWD) and the setup feels pretty much spot on to me.

My quattro says 36 front and 34 back.

remember pressure will change depending on the cars weight and the tyre size.

a 225/45r17 should have more pressure in it than a 205/55r16 on the same vehicle

similarly a quattro is a heavier car so will have more pressure, and an S4 is heavier again.

Fuel flap on ours says 32 all round for normal driving so i go with that. If i'm doing lots of motorway or load carrying i'll increase it, came down from scotland at the weekend with a boot full of landrover bits, so i put the front up to 34 and the rear to 36.

Also i never rotate tyres to "even out" wear. I always fit the new tyres to the rear, and move the part worn rears to the front. I feel the rear of the car is less controllable, and provides less feel, so knowing the rear is on stickier rubber than the front gives you more confidence in the car. Having ditchfinders, or even more worn tyres on the rear, means you can have the back end step out without any warning from the steering as the front end still has plenty of grip.

I'm pretty sure i'm running 35psi all round on mine. Tyre size are 235/35/19.

Amen to that. My "Triangle" brand rear tyres were, i'm certain, central to the crazy lift-off oversteer problems I was suffering from with my previous wheels (soon to become my "winter" / MOT wheels

Is there a reason so many of you run more pressure at the rear? I have always had more in the front,34 front 32 rear on 225/45/17.

Because of the wide range of pressures stated here (32-40psi) Im guessing that a lot mof you think "bol**x" to the reccomended pressure specs and are just sticking with the best of what you have tried and tested. And rightly so! Aragorn, did you ever get that equation from that dude for calculating tyre pressures?........

Droppd mine down to 32 psi this morning. The car does feel more stable when hard coenering in the wet, but feels less responsive (not as sharp) when flicking the car about.......

I run 32 all round on mine... 215/40/18's

But even if I had 225's I'd still run 32.

The TT runs higher than that though... Rach has them up at the recommended Audi pressures.

I might bump mine up to 34 all round this afternoon and see if that makes any difference to the driving...

i just use the OE pressures, hardly like its a drivers car or anything
