Stopped by the police!!!

If a car hasnt got ANPR in it (most dont) and you're not drawing attention to yourself to warrant a check on your car then your car wont get checked. There's not enough hours in the day to check every single car that gets driven past.

Been stopped about 5 times personally. 3 of them in the s3 within the space of two weeks. One of them in the middle of Brixton by a riot van. Made me stand out my car till they radio'd for someone to bring the breathaliser machine vwhen I asked why I'd been stopped they said because of my age(24) at the time, my car (s3) and my colour (brown!). Not impressed by the filth atall!

Got nothing to do with your generic attitude towards the law at all then? Unless the riot van had blues and twos on the top they couldn't have legally pulled you over anyway...

It wouldnt be a riot van if it didnt mate ;)

Anyway, blues dont have to be on the roof to enable a stop ;)

Potential for me getting confused with pursuit and stop? :faint:

No mate, our plain cars at work dont have roof bars, just light up like a christmas tree at the push of a button. If you end up in the middle of a pursuit then it's a lot different to a routine stop...mainly about 80mph closing speed different :)

Yeah, but if its not got blues and twos at all I mean (IE, not an unmarked car)? Like the transit vans that you see knocking about and stuff like that, they can't stop you at all can they?

They would most likely be post vans driven by Police staff and not officers so they shouldnt be stopping you anyway.

As for needing a blue light to stop someone, Id have to double check. I dont think you do but you have to identify yourself as plod etc.

I got stopped 3 days after owning the S3 on the way to work on a night shift by an undercover Mondeo lol. The log book hadn't switched over to my name yet so there was no registered driver to the vehicle. But i explained i got insurance when i got the car and i hadn't received my log book yet as i only got the car 3 days ago. They checked my insurance and understood the log book hadn't switched over yet.

While the officer was checking it out the other 2 coppers questioned if it was an A3 or S3. I said it's an S3 and they then asked how old i was to which i replied '21'. They looked so puzzled but suspicious at the same time LOL. I haven't had anything since then which is good and hopefully it'll never happen touch wood!

I've been pulled over once in my S3, I wasn't even pulled over, I drove into a layby type thing to drop a friend off, and the police car parked up behind and flashed his blue lights. Routine check of course, wasn't speeding or anything. Was stopped by a speedgun/trap when I got my 6 points, wrong place at the wrong time scenario, does that count?

I've never really been stopped.
The MG used to attract a lot of attention but never got pulled in 9 years as daily driver, even with a third person perched on the parcel shelf area!

I was taking the missus to work in the S3 one morning and accidently went through a crossing when there was someone waiting to cross. Police car had been waiting down a side street and followed me 200 yards to where I dropped the missus off.
They just pulled in front of me and asked if I realised what i'd done. I said yes but I hadn't seen the woman waiting to cross the road because i'd been focused on their illuminous car poking out of the side street! They were nice enough.

Got pulled 1 day after passing my test.

Oh and once for being down sea front at night with my gf, the front is lit up well, forgot to put on my lights, pulled out infront of a police car. asked of what i was doing, by the steamed up windows it was blatently clear what i was doing :D didnt say much though as i switched them straight on as he flashed his lights.!

Klapp are you always in basingstoke then, thought prawn was in portsmouth? you driving his car regulary and that?

Prawns been living in Basingstoke for the last year now, I've lived here forever. I've known Prawn for years, but now he's moved to Basingstoke he's been bumped up to best mate level haha! I drive Prawns car probably 2 or 3 times a week. Why's that, how do you know Mr Prawn ?

I was stopped once in nuneaton after coming out a night club in my fiesta. I had one beer that night at 1am, got out at three and accidently cut a car up because i didnt know where i was going.. Anyways, was trying to find out how to get back to coventry and i was in and out of lanes because i wasnt familiar with the area. Seen this vectra behind me and thought... hmmm. who is this guy? Got on a straight and knew where i was at this point in 2nd gear and put my foot down but i dont think i broke the speed limit.. They come really fast behind me, my reaction was.. "WHO IS THIS TW..(blue lights)... oh crap." They said i was driving dangerously and gave me a breath test which came to zero but i wasnt driving dangerously. Explained it and they just gave me the "driving safe" lecture. The guy was cool with me, but half the stuff i wasnt listening to because the copper lady was fit and she had all my attention haha. Let me go and i was off home with my Souvenir!

I think sometimes it's good to have mister plod rattle our cages... somtimes it's the lesser of two evils. The upside is that on the off chance that someone has nicked your car while you are asleep, those random stops may just save your motor from being parted out. ;)

My attitude towards the law or even obiding by the law is completely different to how i percieve the actual people that are meant to enforce it with their own attitude. They did have blues and twos on to pull me. Also my attitude stems from a number of incidents/ encounters i have had in very similar experiences.

And also if i do have an attitude with the "law" how does this justify their actions and comments?

Well there's your main problem, unless it's a drive through night club.
Well, out of the car park then. I understand why they stopped me. Was just my first time being stopped!

I agree with rav. I think some officers get abit too power mad and think that they are the law thus thinking they can treat people with disrespect and maintain that authoritarian figure. They're there to help, not to blame, thats the courts job. Not all officers are like that, just the odd few that think that their badge means they're bigger and better than the public.

Speaking from experience its very easy to get into a certain mind set. Everyone you speak to has an opinion on how you should be doing your job, what laws you should or shouldnt look at, who you should or shouldnt be stopping and why etc.

However thats no excuse to be rude to people or give it the biggun...unless someones giving it large to you...in which case its fair game IMO but people dont like that. Someone speaks to me like an idiot then they'll get treated like one (within reason).

I used to have a Mk1 Escort Twin cam rally car with white squares on the doors, flared arches and a roll cage. I got stopped regularly and kept a tally up to 43 times when I gave up counting. Most of the time, after they were satisfied it wasn't stolen, they just wanted a chat about the engine. I didn't mind as I'd like to think if it did get stolen it would get stopped. I kept all my documents with me to avoid producers of course!

i got stopped three times in one day and then got my car taken of me by the police the same day .got stopped in my pals yellow rs4 ,then my we xr2 and later at nite i took my cosworth out and the b*****ds took it of me trying to say i wasnt insured

What are the circs under which it was taken off you out of interest?.

When we do it we have to have exhausted any enquiries into the vehicle...such as calling the insurance company in question. If a car has no insurance on the database doesnt always mean its uninsured so a few checks can avoid massivly ******* someone off. My car wasnt on the MID and I phoned up Flux and ranted at them in case someone tried to take it off me at 3.00am on the way home from work!.

My plate has got me pulled over 4 times now (although 1 was for no seatbelt - i know!) only had 2 fines though, so it stays for now

Sounds like my kind of car!

i got pulled a total of 12 times in my old modded 306 in 2 years. not once in either of the 2 audis ive owned. im enjoying it tbh :D

Not yet in the S3, but only had her 6 weeks. The Escort Cosworth on the other hand, almost daily in Kent. Average id say 3-4 times a week. I suppose a 20 yo drivin a car like that will attract a bit of attention but still! To be fair to almost all of the peelers though, as soon as they were satisfied it was my car they all enjoyed a chat about it. "is it genuine" etc etc.

:edit: Just realised this was a savage necro post but the thread appeared in my new posts for some reason?!

My most recent pull was in my old Starlet GTT Turbo around august last year, i had renewed the insurance a week before it was due but the police system clearly didn't show this so i got stopped - what i found rather annoying was about 5 seconds before he stopped me a rather annoying BWM decided to overtake all and sundry on the road, all i could remember thinking was "stop him!" typically it happened and i was trying to get home to watch match of the day (which i missed most of being sat in the back of the his cop car being read the riot act!) and then to top if off my insurance papers were on the kitchen table when i got home so 1st thing sunday morning i went to the police station with my producer and papers.

Prior to that i had a very loud austin mini which i never got stopped in, a celica gt (never pulled), 3 novas (one pull but i was abut 18 at the time), a corsa (again one pull).

Thus far ive had no trouble from the fuzz with the S3.

sunday just gone lol
Coppers were cool, just a verbal warning for me... Spent more time chatting to them about the wrap

Only stopped once in the last ten years, and I deserved it by the way I was driving. Driving style accountS for a lot. Not like the S3s stand out too much.

Once for speeding 97mph on 70mph road. 3 points & £120 fine.

Got pulled this Wednesday for driving my friends Transporter down the road with the bonnet open and my other mechanic friend lying in the engine bay listening for a suspension top mount knock.
Copper flashed his badge at me in an unmarked car and said 'boys, people are looking at you in awe!, what the fu c k are you doing?'
I explained why we were doing it and took a ear bashing, but the copper couldn't hide the fact it was funny.
Got away with it anyway. :D

A pic how we were but if you can imagine his head in the engine bay:

I've had my head out the window listening for knocks but that takes it to a whole new level!

As far as being pulled, used get pulled all the time, was 18 at the time when I first owned the 1.8T. I'm sure it's because I looked young, the car was standard then, it's now got a few standout mods and i haven't been pulled at all this year.

The chats with the coppers were often funny but I did dislike the fact they always said the car didn't come up on the computer as insured which was their useless excuse to check it over.

Most weeks in one of my Mk2 golfs. It was a matter of millimeters off the floor, and roads in Salisbury are the worst in the world, so I used to have to dodge all the craters, to be pulled and asked if I have been drinking etc & be breathalized. Grab my car & try to shake it love, then look back at the road I've just driven down. 1+1=?

Once because I pulled away sharply from a set of traffic lights after seeing four large guys looking at me from the car behind... Turned out to be an undercover Vectra... Nice guys though and one had a tuned LCR.

when i had a mat black mk1 punto with a huge jap style exhaust on it (it was only a 998cc engine) window tints and 17" wheels i got pulled a couple times a week for months on end till i complained about harrassment, obviously the car was marked for some reason, i bought it for £300 with 12 months mot and 12 months tax so tided me over for 6 months till i got the money for my a3. sold that punto to my brother and he hasn't been pulled since i complained. never even noticed a copper give me a 2nd look in my a3

I was pulled over all the time in my Clio as it looked quite chavvy. Shock of their life when a good, posh accent, Cheshire boy stepped out and said "hello officer"!!
