8L S3 Black Grill De-chroming

Thanks, another item to the growing shopping list :( found the alloys and at over £1500 with tyres think i'll stick with the 18" ones I have

I recently got the wiper arms/blades. £130 for fronts and backs with blades from VW!!! I only bought them because I had a new windscreen fitted and want new everthing.

where did you find them? were they replicas?

I've recently put the Bosch aero wipers on the front, they just dont sit as well as I would like. So arms and wheel spacers onto the list... Getting expensive now

think you are right westle im thinking of the s8's which are 20's that would be abit to big
i wouldn't pay that much for reps
just see some porsche 997 turbo 19s with adaptors and tyres for 700 wonder if they will fit lol

This is mine, matt black, so much better than the chrome, it's embarrasing enough having to put up with Snoop Dogg's wing mirrors lol

I think the black grill surround looks good on almost all colours bar silver.

Chrome is for 50 cent and snoop dogg so unless your down with the G's get the paint out lol

LOL, well I'm into that music but alas I'm a white boy. I'll eventually get round to posting some pic's and let the Audi Sport ppl have a look !

P.s - The chrome is standard so did the S3 come out of the factory all G' Up !

I think on silver, just the surround looks good dechromed, with the rings left in silver.

I might tape that shizzle up (just trying to be down with the crew innit) and see how it looks :)

ok ok, i know its only a "look down your nose at the 1.8T" but why not spray the whole lot black?? i have had nothing but complements since i sprayed mine

it looks de-badged from a distance and makes the car look a whole load more aggresive.

love the look on that matt and gloos black finish m8 :) mustabeen hard masking that of?

I'm pretty sure he removed them before spraying as they are only clipped on.

They are SO easy to take off, I managed to take the ones off my girlfriends car with just my hands! The biggest problem is painting them, you have to rough them up first. I used a scotch pad to get a good finish.

Now I've got some real photos of it I am REALLY feeling the blacked out front now, looks properly good with the new plates too :D

Think I'm going to leave it, on a yellow S3 with black rims I think the chrome sits well. Thanks for your advise and pic's though !

Yellow S3 with black rims ... and you dont want to black out the grill ?
are you mad ? haha
It would look goooooooood !
I saw a yellow RS4 on pistonheads the other week with black rims and black grill !
Looked sick !

Well i've taken off my grill surround, rubbed it down with medium grade wet & dry, and given it a coat of Dolphin Grey!
Tomorrow it's getting another coat of the body colour and a couple of coats of clear laquer. I'll post pics of the result.

If I don't like it (or I make a mess of it) i'll be re-doing it in gloss black! Must admit I do like how the car looks with no grill surround at all!

Is the grill surround difficult to pop off in place?

gently prize it off from the bottom corner with a screwing implement!

and i dont mean your seeding tool! :tocktock:

How does it look without the grill ? Any chance of some images, it may be the easy way to get a black grill ! lol

Sorry darkcooleo, only just saw your post above.
I didn't take any before or during pics. The grill is now back on the car and looks good (I think), i'll take a pic later and post it up on here.
Still might go black sometime for a change.

Yeah, easiest way to tell if you'll like a black surround is just to remove the chrome surround and see what you think!

that looks sweet mate very nice

Very nice S3 you had there Chris. Do you know if it's still in the area?

{and if so, where & does it have locking wheel nuts?}

Unfortunately the guy I sold it to put all the bling bits back on, and I think it's since been sold on to someone down south. (but I still have the spare adaptor for the locking wheel nuts...)

Im planning to do this over the weekend and paint the surround a dark grey like my S3 alloys.
But another question I wanted to ask was for the side panels, because I dont have a S3 are they hard to remove and paint?
