TQS progress thread, From STD-Scroll-Eliminator.

I dont have a boost gauge on mine but i think its meant to be 1 bar its running so should be just shy of 15 psi.

what do you look like in black dress?
Show us your consonants!

Righty, now the search works i am able to update slightly.

My fuel filter gave up and started trowing fuel out so i had to pull the car off the road while i ordered the parts up.
So much for Service history huh! Good job it went so at least i wont have flow problems with a replacement.
100_5364.jpg

It wouldn't undo so i had to modify the clamp
100_5367.jpg

So while it was off road i got jiggy with it.

Whipped the turbo off after soaking it all weekend in releasing oil ( one for you Lee)
100_5365.jpg

Before physically removing the turbo i thought i would offer up that DP i made.
100_5368.jpg

It was too long and needed trimming so i kinda got carried away while the grinder/welder were accessable
100_5374.jpg

Welds checked by an expert.
100_5376.jpg

Current exit point while i decide whether to stick flexi then cat or flexi then pipe and cat as per next pic

100_5375.jpg

Thats my first thought on positioning, to stick the cat there once the Y splitter has been removed back to a single pipe
100_5371.jpg

My £40 S4 exhaust system, it had to be cut to get it couriered to ne, but no drama, it can be bodged, OOOPS i meant welded.
100_5369.jpg

Sorted the MAF problem too i think, the GF bought me a MAF housing from a MK3 VR6 Golf ( OBD1)
100_5306.jpg

The good thing is the AJL sensor will fit directly in so positioning is accuarate. The fitment of the MAF to the airbox is different, but i am sure i can "fix" that.
100_5303.jpg

Look at the difference in diameter between AEB/AJL and the VR6
100_5305.jpg

The downside is the silicone TIP wont fit onto it, no matter how much i try.
so something like this will be required to fit it.

Exit point under car.
100_5391.jpg

This is more or less how it will sit.
100_5390.jpg

3inch outlets aded to the 200cell CAT
100_5384.jpg

Not pretty but functional
100_5386.jpg

Maf comparison AJL v VR6

One smiley car
100_5395.jpg

Bumper trimage
100_5396.jpg

Ex mani missing in action... Studs will also get removed
100_5394.jpg

to accomodate this. Only thing i had to do was widen some of the holes to allow clearence for the bolts to slide in. The M8x35 socket head cap screws are just right with the OEM washers

Is your old turbo a k03 or a k03's? Dont think i have seen a TQS with a k03's yet.

so that DP is custom made then huh mark lol fair play to you mate. so can you make your own custom downpipes from any stainless steel?

I dont have the gear to weld stainless hence using mild steel ( oh and it's much cheaper)

Ian, its a lowly K03, already checked

Ian: TQS's dont have K03S', They have exactly the same turbo as an AEB.

Only B5's with the K03S are the APU and similar DBW engines.

Thats what i thought. I just remember not long ago everyone thought they had a k03's. I was well miffed thinking mine had been swapped for a k03 ha ha.

ye i'm not sure where that came from, it did seem to be regularly touted as the AJL having the larger turbo, but it doesnt!

Looking good Mark.. no need to rub it in about how easliy your turbo to manifold bolts came out though! lol

I need to sort my DP connection now too.

Had a busy day doing other stuff so this is as far as i got today, a quick grind and shorten the tail ready for the CAT, then thats good to go. Am awaiting some more pipe ( and cash to afford it,lol) so the exhaust has to go on stop for now.

After that it's time to remove the turbo( still in place for DP fitment) and start putting the hybrid/ fmic on etc

Good work Mark!

Wish I had the time/expertise to do this kind of thing on my own too.

Well my old AJL car was chipped to 211bhp and would boost to 15psi so if the turbo is not the factor then there must be other things in play but one thing is for sure if a tuner could get 211bhp out of a AEB setup trust me they would so maybe the later K03's are slightly different.

well ye, but if its stopping you driving the car surely sticking a 50quid ebay turbo on for a few months is better than taking the bus?

Righty, been playing again, 3 inch MAF housing with AJL MAF element fitted.

Note my pikey bracket to secure it
100_5415.jpg

100_5416.jpg

I was lucky and happened across a bit pipe i could utilise

100_5417.jpg

Its in, it runs, The TIP aint pretty but i made do

100_5419.jpg

Is it right to have this many bolts and things left over???

100_5422.jpg

Oh and for a laugh, i recorded the car running with downpipe only....

Monster...

:icon_thumright: Excellent!.. Looking good to me (apart from the coolant leakage lol).

Are you running the 3" MAF housing already?

Bet you can't wait to get the injectors in and the boost cranked up to 30PSI hey?! :jump:

Leakage ? Spillage due to my dodgy old shakey hands,LMAO

Yeah Nick said it should be ok, so i will moniter lambda Voltages for now.

I have had to stop for now, out of cash, need some more migwire and tubing amoung other things so have connected the DP to the TQS exhaust. OMG what a size difference.LOL

I need the car for a local ish trip so have had to stick it together with gun gum and a reducer thing, as a good mate of mine callled it "pikeytastic"

100_5423.jpg

So no more progress really till after the weekend as we are busy helping some friends out

That's good to know. I will fit the 3" housing with the turbo from the outset then too.. save me getting a temporary reducer which is a bonus.

Sorry I forgot about your age. A certain amount of spillage is expected then lol.

Looking forward to seeing it with the full exhaust.

I suspect that with that MAF its going to quickly pop a "Adaption Limit Reached - Mixture Weak" code, but we'll see how it goes.

Keep the N75 unplugged to keep the boost pressure down if your driving it unmapped.

I'll be on the standard AGU map until it's remapped. To be safe I will disconnect the N75.. good advice :icon_thumright:

Could always push an insert into the MAF housing to reduce the diameter until mapping I suppose.

Thats an idea! If you sleeve the MAF down then it should read correctly, Just be a bit tricky getting a "sleeve" that will fit snuggly and not move under load/boost.

Hopefully the last few bits required to fit the exhaust. Will have a play tomorrow and see what occurs.

The one is a clamp on to fit the S4 Exhasut to the 3 inch section, and the other is a weld on sleeve to allow me to make the pipe slide over the cat pipework.

100_5448.jpg

100_5447.jpg

what is 3"? the downpipe?
I need to join a 3" DP to a 2.75" middle section somehow. may try your reducer pipe trick if there is a big gap.
WHere did you get it? is it stainless?

yes, that is what I saw.
I suspect that the 2.75" pipe will fit inside the DP quite well but it makes the step on the wrong side. Not a huge issue. one more thing to work out

Right some progress

TQS system off
100_5456.jpg

Although i prefer the tail pipes on the TQS system over the S4 the dia of the pipework hampers me swapping them.
TQS
100_5462.jpg

S4 ( i know its not centered yet, its all still loose)
100_5463.jpg

I now wish i had taken more time to get a better exit point for the DP and an entry point into the S4 system as the centre section is kind of "not straight. Some time taken here would have helped me... Next time hey.
DP, see how close it is to the tunnel? Causes a few issues
100_5459.jpg

The S4 rear with my dodgy @rse CAT on it again, not as centeral as i would like
100_5458.jpg

And the not straight centre section pre grinding...
100_5460.jpg

I am still confident as long as it is airtight, it still has to be better than the TQS system, 3 in DP and centre to 200cell CAT and 65mm S4 exhaust system. I have seen S4s push 300BHP easily on std systems so this should do fine for me at the cost of £120 all in with CAT.

Have i taken De badging a bit far?
100_5461.jpg

Nope i finally have my plate back, thanks to Lee for looking after it for me.

100_5464.jpg

Will stick the sysytem together and post sound clips in the week for reference

Any major problems fitting the s4 exhaust, as thinking of buying a £200 ebay one and making it fit mine but yours looks single pipe and the ebay one's are twin all the way through
