Just dropped off my 57 140 tdi with stage 1 revo for it's service. My car should be pushing out something in the region of 185bhp and a good few torques but compared to the 140 cr tdi i just picked up as a courtesy car mines is like a snail!! The new engine is so smoth in comparison and revs all the way to 6 grand with no real drop off in torque. I cant believe the difference between the two, going to have to trade mine in sooner than i thought!!

Sounds hard to believe. No disrespect, but you sure it wasn't 170hp engine? I'm finding it hard to imagine that a remapped 140pd is slower than a standard 140cr.

The new 140 CR engine is a lot faster than the old one despite what the stats say on paper. Nobody seems to believe it till they have a go in one. I've driven one so I'm not surprised.

the new CR 140 has some serious poke, really does, was shell shocked at how quick stock it was, so wouldnt surprise me whatsoever mate.

I guess I'll start saving then. :sly:

I have an 08 Tdi 170 and that feels very pokey!!! is that the pd or cr engine?

The CR came out when the 8P3 came out didn't it? Along with the revised engine in the whole range.

I believe you. My previous A3 was a 170 PD and my current one is a 140 CR. Both SE Sportbacks with the same trim and levels of options, so a very direct comparison. When I first test drove an A3 with the new 140 CR engine I was surprised. It had almost as much power available as the 170 and it seem a little quieter and gave slightly more torque than the 170 CR I also test drove on the same day. Hence I ordered a 140. I've had it since May 2009 and I must say I'm very pleased with it.

I have also had it remapped by Performance Torque and it now picks-up a little quicker and feels even better. I've no idea what PS it is now producing but that doesn't both me. It just feels a little better and smoother and gives me a few more mpg than before. Worth it for the £295 I paid for the remap.

I've seen videos of Dave racing all sorts on youtube, it does look quick :ninja:

The ones where he is street racing through Cambridgeshire? He's an animal.

Well it's not me!!!!

If someone does try to race with me on the road, I just put my brakes on and let them go and spoil their fun.

Saving it for the track. Very sensible. :thrashi:

It was a Silver A3 Sportback and the plate was H5 DJR :ninja:

The same one from this advert I saw online?

Nice work guys. Shame the URL gives an internet error.

Do I get any commission for the use of my car in the advertising!!

You should have used the photo from 'My Garage' of the back of my car. It's what most other road users will see.......

I would have bought the domain and mocked up a website, but seemed a little overkill...

Nice to see you enjoying the banter and having a laugh, this forum has missed this tbh. Dave R = win

:Flush: Your class Pete, loving your sense of humour. Pete and his new rebuilt engine = win

Thats one of the most sensible & best things I've heard on here for a while, well said Nate, ASN has certainly missed some of its humour of old.

Glad to see Dave took it with a smile too, kudos dave.

PS. Good work Pete, sorry but was very funny, lmfao.

With you on that one. And cheers to Dangerous Dave for taking it in the spirit it was intended :)

You're too kind

Xcuse me for interrupting your fun! How can the CR engine be faster than the PD one? Both have the same bhp and torque... Whats the catch?

Ive never been a `Peformance Derv` fan but I did a 200mile as a passenger in an A5 30Tdi and that was VERY impressive.

Performance was excellent, didnt seem asthmatic at all, and sound Ok too.
The Derv game is moving on fast, thats for sure.

cheers
Paul

BHP and Torque are not the be all and end all of everything.

I have no idea 'exactly' how fast my car is (or was before it was remapped) it just felt as fast as my previous 170PD and much quieter and smoother and almost as fast as the 170CR I drove on the same day. I'm not in the least bit interested if the 170CR is a second or so faster in some 0-60 tests, it's what it feals like to drive thats import to me and the 170CR was not, in my view, worth the extra £900 in performance terms. Perhaps in qudos by thats all.

It's works out better value to buy a 140CR and have it remapped (£295) in my case than buy a 170CR in the first place and pay £900 extra. Yes you could buy a 170CR and have that remapped but then that would be a 200hp car and probably cost £1200 more that the 140. Worth it? Not to me.

I can assure you mate, it was definitely quicker in stock form than mine was on the 140.

Thats why I love the B7 3.0 tdi as its got a lovely engine that has power accompanied with the economy, with a map its a monster.

Development is certainly moving at a pace. I have only had 3 diesel cars, all A3s. Up till then I had always driven petrol engined cars. My first was a 140PD, my second was a 170PD and my current car is a 140CR and the current one is so much better than either of the previous two. I wonder what my next one will be like?
