How many miles has your S3 done

I am new to audi ownership. I ve been wondering how the s3 takes the miles? How many miles do your cars have and whats been done to them?
 
there is a thread on this very subject a few weeks ago - have a look on the search function.

I think the average furthest traveled was around the 150K mark with no major troubles reported.
 
I bought a 2000 plate S3 about a month ago, which since I've been driving it has just gone over 124,000 miles (was 123,200 odd when I purchased it).

Before that, I owned a 1999 plate Golf Mk4 1.8t which had done 94,000 miles when I sold it... and I've got to say, the S3 feels sooo much more reliable!

It's got a full Audi Service History, receipts of nearly everything over the last 9 years (including 2 cam belt changes), original Audi Welcome Pack and 3 keys etc. I can't see any major problems that the car has had over previous MOT's or anything, so I'm guessing that if you pick the right one... they're pretty reliable. :laugh:
 
So Jester has managed upwards of 180k without major incident, yet GTQ has destroyed two engines in 150k. I guess it's the luck of the draw.
 
I'm still looking for mine, and i'm a bit worried now as I was assuming with my budget i'd be looking at an 80k miles car but as there were quite a few examples of new engines around the 90k mark i'm not sure now?
 
I think luck might have a small part but general maintainance plays a part as does driving style...use of correct/approved parts and probably a few more factors

189k now - however I did have a new engine at 93k.

Reason: Cambelt/waterpump failed and destroyed the car at 70mph on the m4

Just make sure it has been well looked after and the cambelt/waterpump is changed every 60k.

Could be the driver... however this time it's not really catastrophic and to be honest it could be related to the original issue as it's the same cylinder and there were issues with that spark plug when AmD had it so potentially even on my engine it's only been one issue. Block / Short engine doesn't look too bad considering it's done 90k now.

It was also made a lot worse by the aircon blower packing up just before a trip around scotland in the height of summer which I think saw it getting a lot hotter than normal.

**** happens but could have done without this at the moment.
 
My 52 plate s3 has just hit 42k. Had the cam belt tensioner and thermo done at 40k.

Full service with extra oil changes in between.

Had it mapped at star performance a while back and loving it. next on the cards is a set of coilovers i think, but udecided on which ones as yet.

I was also thinking about poly bushes, but dont know if this will stiffen up the ride to much.
 
Mine is a 2000 APY with 94500 miles.....ive owned it for 6500 trouble free miles (except a few minor electrical probs) not sure about the previous owners. so when would people recommend a cambelt change (mileage intervals)
 
Mine's a 2001 with 56k. Only bought it couple weeks ago but i love it! Major things were changed during a service before i purchased the car so no need to worry about that stuff. Although when i bought the car the battery started dying on me and needed a new N75 valve.
 
wooooo, I love these mileage threads! I always seem to win (if having a worthless car can be deemed as winning?)

I know mines not an S3, it's an A3, but it's making more power than any standard S3, and as much/more torque than most remapped S3's (we all know it's torque that bends things!)

I'm now on 191k, on the original engine, with all original pistons/rings/bearings/head gasket.

Every year at the MOT the emmisions test gives amazing results, producing around 1/3rd of the limits on all tests.

it burns no oil or water, still pulls like a train, and still returns 40mpg on a good run.

I reckon this one is heading for 300k happily.....
 
2000 S3 on 103k.

Bought is two years ago on 75K. Its had a couple of services, and the cambelt / waterpump done.

Other than needing a new clutch its been fine.

you've gotta really try to get that kind of MPG, although it'll do 35-36mpg on the motorway without thinking about it, sitting at 80ish.....

Around the nurburg ring in september I averaged 7.9mpg per lap!
 
My T reg 1999 S3 has 58k miles on it I off the top of my head, done 2k max in the last 12 months. I really should sell it, as it's a weekend thing these days, but there's nothing out there I fancy to replace it with, and if I didn't have it as a weekend car, life would be boring...
 
Mines done 147k, Registered March 2001 (so its a facelift in the old tax bandings) :p

120k when i bought it
100k it had a custom remap by jabba

Issues ive had,
1. steering colum rubbing on brake pipe which caused a little hole and i lost front passenger side brakes. - just replaced the pipe
2. Wheel bearing
3. clutch slave cylinder went, meaning clutch pedal was stuck to the floor. - replaced that now all fine.
4. when i bought the car it had a 2 snapped shocks and ******** spring - didnt bother me as i was fitting lowering springs and uprated shocks. (owner knocked £500 off)

whats been done to my car so far.

RS4 alloys
silicone TIP
Jabba remap

Mine has done, 106k had done 94k when i got it in March.

Missing service book but piles of reciepts.

Since I have had it,

New Turbo
Steering Arm
Clutch
Headlamps replaced
Sump
Coil packs
Rear Caliper, discs and pads
2 services.

I do not want to think about how much i have spent.
 
My one has covered 119k, I've only had it since 116k. Only issues so far have been a knackered battery and dodgy headlamp adjusters, both problems were there when I brought it. Other than that it runs sweet as a nut.
 
mine is a 2001 with only 59k on the clock. paid just under £6k due to it needing a repaint but thats what I do for a living so a bargain in my eyes
 
Sounds like a high average mileage on this forum then!

Mines a '51 on 83k. Bought it just under a year ago with 76k.

So far just needed new Clutch and repairs to a leaking slave

Front suspension bushes and anti roll bar (knocking noise)

Plus consumables (brakes, tyres)

Quite cheap really. And averages 32mpg on my cross country commute (26mpg if i'm on a mission!) M3 did 26mpg driving steady and 19mpg on a mission over the same journey!)
 
I have an 03 plate s3 and it has done 51k had 43k when i bought it in march this year only mod is replacement k&n panel filter!!!
 
Mines got 130k on it now, its done 50k of that running a nice reliable 350bhp, all thats been changed on it is filters/oil and tyres!
 
I don't know why all this mileage stuff is interesting, but somehow it just is. :think:

Anyway, I've owned my S3 since July this year. I bought it on 65k when it was 5 years and 359 days old. :beerchug:

It's now on 68k and it's 6 years and (some) days old.

Had the cambelt done, suspension bushes replaced with Powerflex equivalents, F&R ARBs replaced, oil level sensor replaced, coolant temp sensor replaced, lambda sensor replaced, driver's door lock replaced (the usual sensor problem), 4-wheel alignment done and a couple of other niggles sorted. Now it's up to the standard I expect (tip-top). :thumbsup:

It's got an APS stage 1 remap & Forge 007p. I love it every time I get in it.

Next up are Black Diamond grooved discs & predator pads, plus a rolling road check to see what she's producing.
 
Very Interesting Thread. I'm thinking about buying a 103k 2001 S3 running 300bhp but am worried about the mileage. On the whole this thread is positive though. So quite reassuring.

Looking forward to visiting the car this week, and hopefully checking out whether it is as mechanically sound as it is cosmetically good.

Mine was on 108k when I bought it, was converted to 350bhp at about 80k I think, not had a single hiccup with it! Now on 130k and still lovely, I drive my cars like they are meant to be driven but also take care of them, thats the key! Big power IS reliable
 
Now on a crazy 34k. Bought it on 19k. Meh its to be driven and will probably own it for quite a while.

I'm going to have a good look around the car tomorrow evening. (It's kept in a fully lit warehouse at the moment)

I'll just make sure to knock him down as much as I can and pick any holes in it. If there's anything wrong with it, I will certainly walk away!

Best of luck with it, hopefuly its the right one for you. The S3 is a great car but the standard ones I viewed were disappointing, a nicely tuned one will keep you smiling for ages! Ill be gutted when I do actually sell mine soon
