Its not being defensive, just being realistic, we've all had our own experiences...i meant that there is no need to bring in the 3.0tdi into the argument because i know how quick those things are...

I pay credit where credit is due, i just cant stand when some people talk out of there a@#e...

There are plenty of cars quicker than the S3, but "I" dont believe the 1.9 diesel as being one of these...

Right or wrong, simple as that...
 
Can we keep the speed of this thread to 100kmph MAX please, what's all this talk about 120/140/150mph+ :think:

Ask Mikey about that mate, his must be the defacto diesel A3 to drive, I'd hazard a guess when its reconstructed it will give some of the S3 8P's a good run for there money, even possibly wave good bye to them in his rear view mirror, lol
 
im still of the opinion that the diesels turbo has more work to do than ours would, using the basis that a non turbo petrol engine is far quicker than a non turbo diesel..... i haven't come across a diesel yet that can hold a good level of boost to be able to ruin me from the low speeds all the way upto top speeds....diesels in my experience just seem to run out, mid range some have caused me concern but nothing has really hammered me - although i fully appreciate what some people have said what with improvements in technology etc

You're being obtuze mate ! First i was talking about diesels as a whole, you can build a drag racer but it wont be ecconomical at all. Petrol and diesel engines were designed to be different: one smooth and cheerfull, the other dirty but ecconomical ! Thing is since PD (wich is a technological Dead End!) diesels started giving petrol engines a good run for the money. Also i do an awfull lot of driving on the continent and the reason i don't drive petrol is fuel ecconomy ! It's much cheaper to drive diesel on the continent as diesel is 20+ cents cheaper than petro l(unlike here!) and it works cheaper for me to drive 3000 miles on 5 tanks of derv than on 8.5 tanks of finest unleaded while still doing over a ton average (been there done it) !!! Since Common Rail, the dirty diesel idea is long gone and as the technology moves on, we need to addapt. In Europe(read Germany, Belgium,Scandinavia) there are many enthusiasts wich played with diesel engines(amongst other) and got reaaly good results while still keeping the 40-50+ Mpg the diesel returns. Latelly, FSI engines are catching-up and are using ideas tried and tested in Tdi engines and they more efficient than ever. Lets keep cool and if you ever see/race a modded TDI, just give-it the credit it deserves wichever painfull it might be... Just me 2 peeny worth.

Why keep on saying modded tdi, your not going to be able to see into the ecu or the insides of the engine.
OBVIOUSLy a tuned tdi would do a standard petrol, in which your comparing the tuned tdi too.
 
Will let you guys know next year when I go to the ring. My brothers taking his Golf gttdi. RR @ 180bhp and 300lbs on sat.
 
All this talk is total trash! I'm offering myself in my Stage1 S3 against anyone who has a TDI Golf/A3/Ibiza/Polo, preferably remapped, I don't mind 2WD or Quattro, whatever you have. GTI International next year down the 1/4 miles, and all will be answered. :racer:

HA! This is where I get a stripped out Polo, running hybrid turbo up for the challenge lol.:Flush:

I'm hopeful of something similar in size and power for a fair contest, but I seriously don't mind what I'm up against or wether I win or lose.

It's just a bit of fun at the end of the day. :)
 
good call jojo....... although i think the diesels excel midrange, the 1/4 mile will defo show how quickly they run out of steam IMO

I had a Corsa with that engine in, with R1 carbs anyway. Those redtops are great engines. Jesus wept, that thing used to decimate all. It did have cams and about every other mod going. She was about 230 BHP. RIP :sob:
 
benskin im guessing you are BT if you showing 350bhp....maybe it would be more fair up against our very own tufty :)
 
Nah thats what he has plans to do matey, the person to talk to about an A3 diesel that'll probably walk past the 8L & possibly 8P S3 is Mikey from devon, his latest upgrade is gonna be a monster, feck me it will be, lol.
 
Wish i still had my MK4 Golf 1.9 TDI. Ok so in all fairness it had a fair but more done to it than a re-map but it would destroy my 225 re-mapped S3 all day and night, in any gear, and at any speed.
However wheel spinning in 3rd does get boring.... 4WD all the way now!

Hmm, Golf 4Mo TDi........
 
Leggy i'm up for the challenge :p i would be interested in seeing how my A3 PD130 will do against an s3 on a quarter mile as it will be completely finished by then and the race will be fair as the Hybrid will not be fitted at that point.:arco: P.s Mod's are as follows Green cotton pannel filter, Forge FMIC, Full Milltec Downpipe High flow cat and cat back System, and at that point remmaped at revo stage 2. P.s this thing about diesels running out of steam is also B&**OCKS haha :p maybe a standard diesel but when you have a FMIC boost pressure is able to increase for a longer period and no lag. (AJM do you have any recommendations on a new performance clutch for a TDI as i am in desperate need)

Haha i no sorry about the music btw.... yep that's the down about about diesels though the smoke lol.... but the more smoke the more tuned the engine is its not like petrol smoke due to over fueling but the engine getting rid of all that burnt oil haha! get back to me leggy on the 1/4 mile mate... should be interesting. got to admit though for a 1.9tdi 12.06 on a quarter is pretty impressive.

I'd love a trip up the strip with ya, but I doubt it'll ever happen...and besides if you 'are really' getting 12.06 out of a 1.9d with just a remap and down pipe then there wouldn't be much point as an S3 remapped will be lucky to get under 14secs, and I'm not being funny but 2 seconds is a lot on a quarter mile, I'd be shocked if you could do it in the time you claim with your mods...

Astra 1.9d is a surprisingly quick car. We were having a joke many years ago when my friend had one as a hire car and I had a spanking new Mk5 R32 golf. Chased each other home and it was nearly impossible to overtake him!!! I only JUST had the edge! Very depressing night. (..R32 sounded good though)

Also my S3 couldn't pull an inch off my friends chipped 1.9tdi Punto:( REALLY bad moment that was! He was touching my bumper and looked like he could have pulled past if given enough room. Made me laugh when he followed me into the next corner though and all I could see in my mirror was him gathering up a big oversteer moment whilst I was still accelerating with grip to spare:) ..which made it a bit better.
 
haha minty your correct, i dont run a 12.06 its the 1.9 in the video lol.... and i know 2 seconds is a massive difference ive never took mine for a run on a quarter yet thats why im interested in seeing my car up against an s3. Leggy you know the race is on :p, i only want to race you on a straight though haha i wouldn't embarras myself on a windy roud up against an s3!
 
erm i was talking about the car in the video which is an Ibiza!! not a Leon :asskicking:

for that car to run a 12second it will have had a bt conversion.... no way would an ibiza be able to pull that off with a standard mapped engine......
