On the up again.... TBH I wouldn't have noticed as the prices seem to be gradually climbing anyway! What I was thinking was...
How many members do we have on here in total? Why not get an E-petition sorted, contact other UK VAG forums (or any other marques for that matter) and let parliament know how ****** off we are.

I'm self employed and need a car. The majority of my work finishes after public transport ends or is in a place where public transport link are really poor. I try and get / give lifts when I can but it's near impossibile due to the nature of my work.

Last year when the diesel price went up to £1.30 a litre it would cost me almost £70 for a full tank of fuel. Now, I'd go out for a gig at £100, I'm left with £30 in my pocket, granted that tank of fuel will last 500 miles-ish but if I've got work in different directions, back to back night after night, well you can see how much fuel I can get through...

Once again, the Governement is raping us through our wallets. It's not a green tax, it's not public transport sweetener it's just pure theft.

Anybody interested in joining my rant?

im with you mate, sick of this crap selfish goverment taking the **** of us when it comes to tax, this country is going down hill fast, we're the most taxed country!!!!! feck em mate and ill sign every petition thats going round. we will never change this country due to the fact every MP is out for themselves no matter wot, all they care about is money and as long as they get paid their £70,000 a year plus expenses and got their 3 ****** houses then why do they care about the little men who actually pay to run this country!!!!!!!!! less tax and more rights to the people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bring on the petitions

Petitions have been tried and tested, and do you think the government really give a damn?
As the OP says himself, he needs his car for work, like most of us on here, we all need our cars for something or another, so the government have just got us by the balls. We are an easy target, along with smokers and drinkers, nowhere else in the world taxes as much for these than Great Britain!

ditto jojo.
Theres only one route to blame, and thats the tossers that kept them in power by voting for them.Doubt the Tories would be any differant.Theve got us by the short and curlies.Get used to it!!

It goes up by 2p + VAT on top of that at midnight tonight too - 3rd rise in 9 months I think!!!

At least we're not in Norway!!! They beat us hands down at that game. £7 a pint & petrol is about the same. I think a packet of cigarettes is about £7 too, but not so sure on that one. No wonder they're prone to suicide. They also make great drinking buddies in any other country - they go nuts!

Ach I suppose you're all right. They seem so deft at body swerving all the direct questions. Between them and Corporate managers I'm surprised were not all back to living in mud huts and paying £300 for a pint of milk!

3rd rise????????? more like the ninth rise mate, it was 89p 6mnths ago and now it seems to be 107p they creep it up 1p every few weeks not for us to notice and we just carry on with life and take it up the **** like all brits do cuz we're too lazy to complain, prices are rising to pay off the debt that the goverment has from buying out ther banks which we ****** paid for anyway while they were claiming every expense under the sun. the reason i dont vote is cuz i cant be blamed for voting in a goverment which takes the **** of us as tax paying hard working people, any goverment which gets voted in will simply look after themselves so feck em, feck em all ill look after myself which i have done all my life.

sorry for my language and my rant but this country is failing big time and fast!!!

Fuel round by us is £1.19 per ltr for the ultimate unleaded stuff. Even deisel is up there with unleaded now. Tax on money u ern then taxed to put it in the bank, charged to take it out taxed to drive your car tax on petrol, council tax bla bla bla ENOUGH ALREADY GIVE US A BREAK!!! Dont they know its the middle of a RECESSION!! and relax!! :D

I meant 3rd rise in fuel duty in 9 months, not the cost of oil. Sorry for any confusion.

Prices around me range from 1.03 to 1.06..... The best one which made me laugh (or cry) was that one of the Texaco garages put the price up 5 times in a week!!!

On the whole the reason why the government get away with what they do is due to the fact that we as a country are very apathetic. If we all came together we could bring this to a fairer conclusion. Just look at France and Germany... when it happened to them they brought practically the whole country to a halt. It would only take one - two days and the government would lose millions of pounds, they would have to stop and listen and take note. This is a huge subject and can cover a huge spectrum of things, but at the end of the day its us that actually hold all the aces... with out us the government is FUBAR'd!

Shell in Shirley Triangle, Solihull is 104.9 for both petrol and diesel, it's 105.9 at Texaco for both in Moseley in Birmingham... Texaco have always been expensive whenever I drve past one, and they always have queues of cars waiting for fuel also... doesn't make sense??

Theres a garage nearby thats closed down, it still has an old price advertised at 68.9p for diesel.....

I find this site a handy little tool...

You might have to sign up to get results for exact locations but that's no biggy.

Joost that is a good site, but it doesnt always update, so could be a day or two out of date, however, I still use it to get an idea...but then again, theres only 2 or 3 petrols stations that i will ALWAYS only use.

When I started driving petrol was 54.9 and diesel was 50.9... Oh the glory days.

Yeah I always used to wonder why Diesel was always cheaper, at the time my father said it was because Diesel cars werent very popular and pretty slow how times have changed...

I'm probably in a minority here but..

As a self employed IT contractor doing around 500 miles per week in an A4 2.8 Quattro, the latest price hike will mean I have less money at the end of the month.

I love my A4, but accept it is damaging to the environment and it's only fair that the polluter pays. If some of the cash goes towards public transport that's great. I'm also a keen cyclist and the more fuel prices go up, the more I cycle. Right here in Edinburgh, congestion is so bad, cycling is the fastest way to get around town.

If only life were that simple. There are those who have a genuine need for a polluting vehicle e.g. truck drivers. I really do think they should receive some kind of fuel duty rebate. As a contractor, I get some tax relief on my mileage so there is a real incentive to drive a fuel efficient vehicle.

The rise of the diesel car has been a reaction to fuel prices and regulated pollutants. To many owners, it's a no-brainer. You get to drive a huge 4x4 with shopping box running costs. What about the particulate pollution(PM10) and noxious gasses that are damaging to our health? Does diesel = green? I think the jury's still out on that one.

Then, of course, there's the very real issue of global warming and climate change. I think most of use accept that social change is required and we can't rely on businesses to provide us with emission-free vehicles. The same is true for aviation. The new Boeing 787 may well be 20% more efficient than the outgoing 767, but that aircraft will be flying for around two decades. Surely, if we put up the price of aviation fuel, the manufacturers would be forced to respond.

To sum up, I think we need to stop engineering our lifestyles around the car. We here many reasons cited for car-centric lifestyles but are they true justifications or just excuses and a reluctance to change? If everyone reduced their car usage we would all benefit in terms of improved health - now that really is a no-brainer.

but is that per litre or a gallon, when I started driving it was 80p a gallon! not a ****** litre!:sob:

Lothian I agree with most of what you say, but I don't think the "government" but anything into public transport. I also live in the sticks and it's hard enough for me to get a bus to Cambridge at a normal hour without trying and with un-normal you may as well forget it.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with what you've just said. Firstly I don't believe in global warming. I think it's all a load of ****, an excuse for the government to make more money out of us. The global warming thing is for another thread anyway.

The point I'm trying to make is with or without 'global warming', the government would find another excuse to make more money out of us. It's just one of their 'tools'. So we're screwed either way.

Going back to the cost of fuel and remembering what prices were... for me i can remember when it was 50p/gallon on 4* and that was just when the price wars started. When i first started driving i could fill up my XR3i (i know no comments but its what every (almost) teenager wanted) for under £16!!

As for global warming etc with regards to the fuel being used...until i can see 100% proven evidence, i can't really comment, but it wouldn't suprise if it doesn't have some kind of effect. Going on from this slightly.... there are alternative fuels which can be used and will probably never come forward (not for the foreseeable future anyway), this is due to the fact that the oil companies will not allow it (they do buy up all patancies on these things to prevent it coming forward). Plus all the revenue with which the government steals (i mean fairly taxes) from us would be very hard for them to work out how to compensate against it. Besides this country (for fuel usage)is only a drop in the ocean compared to the likes of the USA (they won't sign the Kyoto agreement) and China to name but two!

For all us 'green people', to a certain degree our hands are tied by the way the economy on travel currently is.
