Does this back box look ok?

i just bought the exact same one! from same seller and received on monday. it looks well made and quite good for the money, cant say how it will look on the car or sound (i was slightly worried about that!) but should get it fitted soon.

i did not want to spend £400+ for a full system and wanted the option of returning to stock when i want to sell. if you want some extra pics or live near surrey your more than welcome to have a look!

the only thing i will say is that its slightly bigger than the picture lets on, but had a quick measure and looks like it should fit ok...:keule:!
 
i would want to hear someone with one running before I bought it, looks OK though.

Sweet! thats handy! I would be extremely greatful if you could let me know when you get it fitted, and get a picture of it installed please.

I have exactly the same reasons as you for looking at this one.

Is it me, or does it appear NOT to have any hangars on it?
 
i have a Quattro T-Sport (180Bhp) bit worried as it may sound *****... will try to get it fitted asap. your 2.6 should sound good tho!!

it doesnt have any hangers on it, i thought that they were welded to the box as it is fitted, otherwise they would be in the wrong place for diffrent cars.

will let you know how i get on, working sat but will try sun!!:kissmyrings:
 
I wouldn't advice a universal rear muffler for any car, definitely not a turbocharged one.

Turbocharged engines are extremely sensitive to back pressure changes, get it too wrong, your car'll be a smoker in a while, as the turbo seals fail.

I'd either stick to stock, or wait till I could afford one designed specifically for your engine.
 
Well I bought one of these about a year ago but never got to fit it (mine had a Carbon wrap) but it looked very well made and had the look I wanted.

There are no hangers, hence "universal". :)

They will require hangers welded on or straps to keep them in place. You would be better off spending a little extra for one which is designed to fit.

thanks for the advice guys, mite not do this now as the last thing i want is the turbo to go!! is there any way to get more sound from the stock one, as mine has crome pipes as stock and im happy with the look, but would be good to have a slightly deeper note to it! and a bit more noise when you put your foot down, im sick of hearing an engine and no exhaust at all!!

SAM you might be ok, it looks pretty good, but if there is a chance it will duff the turbo im going to stay well away!! already having boost problems with a FORGE-SPLIT-r :sos: !!

hmmm... Well, i can't blame you at all... not worth blowing the turbo over a £60 back box! lol.

To be honest, I've been told that i can have a pipercross made up and fitted for me for £150. It seems the extra money is worth it for something which is a well known brand and that i can have made to my spec.:happy: sweet! hehe.

Well thanks for the help once again guys! will try post some pics of the new exhaust when i get it on!
 
i very much doubt you'd do anything to the turbo

The stock setup has an extremely restrictive cat bolted right after the turbo, which will create a lot of back pressure. Plenty people fit big bore decat systems massively reducing the back pressure with no ill effects, there really is no reason why a free flowing exhaust would cause anything to happen to the turbo's oil seals...

As for the boost problems with the Splitter-R, throw it away and fit a proper recirculating dump valve.

really, not sure what to do now! might give it a try.
as for the forge, im starting to feel that way TBH, after a few days of low boost and ****** running i might just throw the stock one back in - at least the car was boosting before.

would you know why the negative boost vacum (i think its called) went from 15Hg on the stock DV to roughly 25+Hg with the forge?? strange..

i think the forge would be ok, but its all to do with the ajustment, have spent ages tinkering with the clicks, anybody know roughly how many clicks for 180Bhp T-Sport?

BTW: SAM - do you have any more info on that custom pipe you were talking about?! sound good!

I don't really...Sorry! To be honest, don't have that much info, all i know is that it's a guy that we deal with at work who owns a small exhaust and wheel shop. He only deals with pipercross too. He usually retails at £230 for the custom, but because he is mates with the guy that owns the garage that i work at, i can have one for £150. sweet huh!? lol:thumbsup:
 
I had a custom exhaust fitted from cat with a universal back box off ebay. Was good quailty and had hangers welded to it when i had it fitted.
Just check the inlet diameter some are 2" and some 2.5" with 2.5" piping fits better without having to reduce to back box.
After fitting had to fit cat back on because too noisey for me.
Went on rolling road no loss and no gain but cat was back on, Glad i never lost power.
