Is this the BEST car ever to be produced? I know its out of range of all of us, but by god is it a tool.

And best of all it was built by VAG...

This engine is an absolute masterpiece...

the Veyron is an awesome car.. why would you need to look any deeper into it? (that coming from a self confessed car geek!)

Agree on the 959. HAve you seen one up close......for 23 years ago, just incredible in every sense! And I was lucky enough to drive one too, about 7 years ago, when I dealt with some bankrupt guy who had three of them!!

I thought they were limited numbers etc, so how did he get three.......? Well he won Lemans for Porsche a few times so I suspect that had something to do with it!

Veyron is IMO not a HUGE leap forward, but it is a different beast to all the modern supercars, a different direction. Modern supercars have sort of lost their way a bit, being developed more as marketting tools maybe, whilst getting heavier and heavier and actually not being that sparkling performance. F40 still wickedly fast (drove one of them quite recently too), XJ220 has barking straightline performance, fair bit quicker than a Zonda I beleive! BUt times change and modern supercars are expected to be all things to all men IMO! The Veyron is the ultimate expression of that, beautiful build quality, technologically advances, probably very safe and maybe even fairly gree knowing VAG! But compared to the 80's and 90's supercars, the days when no one wore seatbelts as it was best to be "thrown clear" in a crash, when performance and noise was more important that fit, finish and NVH, along came Porsche and just built this amazing peice of automotive art, that was not only very good, but proabbaly pioneered the "modern supercar", with toys and computers that did weird things, (think you could alter tyre pressures whilst driving the 959 IIRC).

Maybe reminiscing, but I can honestly say that if money were no object at all, the first supercar I'd buy would be one from the 80's or 90's!!

An amazing piece of engineering, the car itself is beautiful, but for me its the engineering aspect of the whole thing its amazing!!!!!!

Porsche 959

1983 - 1988 200 mph, 0-60 3.6 seconds - permanent 4 wheel drive. A super car that could be used as a domestic runabout.

Ferrari built the F40 as a response... a crude joke in comparison.

this is one of my favourites too! ever scince i had a tamiya model of the paris dakar rally one

You have driven a 959 and an F40!! :sign_omg:

Tell us more! :sign_pics:

As for super car favs of mine

F1
Veyron
F40
Koenigsegg CCXR
F50

A few facts in favour of the Veyron supporters, each cars production costs are around £5million each so its had some research an development.
4WD system is based on the Haldex system!!
lots of people know about the engines performance but no so many know about the brakes.

250mph to 0 in under 10secs
also, "The braking is also so evenly applied that the car will not deviate from a straight path if the driver lets go of the steering wheel, even with the brakes fully applied starting from close to top speed."

Very nice but anything that's not 'general public' Stuff is generally driven by knobs But I Can't See any footballers having one of these. So it Could be worse.

Coolest car ever?
Mass produced motoring to the public and although not fast compared to this, it feels it!

theres a fella that lives near my missus who has one,and he lets his wife drive it,you just wudnt would you? haha,i was sat at a junction and it went past, time just seems to slow down as this masterpiece of engineering rolls on by,unbelievbly very quiet,i was shocked first time i seen it,seen it about three times and every time i make a mess in my boxies lol

Yeah i agree, it's an achievement. but for something to look at. I'd prefer a Murcielago or a 599..

And. That Brown porsche looks horrible in my opinion.. The F40 is a masterpiece in comparison.

know one has mentioned the Pagani Zonda,i think these are awesome, but a veyron makes it look like a micra haha

Indeed the Veyron is an incredible piece of engineering, there's no doubt about that. But in the REAL world it's maybe not so special as an all round car...

The new Nissan GT-R is apparently lapping Hockenhein 2 seconds (??!!!) faster than the Veyron. Which (and i'm sorry to say this) in my book makes the GT-R an even more incredible feat of engineering (considering price etc) and if rumours are true will probably go down as one of the best performance cars ever.... And it will cost about the same as an RS4.

Im with you there is something about the F40

But my ultimate fave totally cool has to be the ferrari 365 GTB/S/4 Daytona.

Always wanted one.

Veyron's nice and a tech genius but why oh why does it have to have a front grill that looks like a dog kennel entrance !!!!!

the only car was the 288GTO or the F50 but then came the Veyron, all 0 degrees kelvin

I just love the way the dash lights up, bit like Knight Rider (Kitt)

all time coolest for me is the ferrari 308 gtb....

Not a great fan of the veyron, its obviously a very good peice of engineering, but there is nothing perticually innovative about it really. (Not that that is a measure of coolness)

Its a bit ugly, ok very ugly, and lacks any sort of passion or flare imo.

A!

No one mention the Buggatti EB110??
iirc it was briefly the fastest supercar money could buy before the Mac F1 came along and trumped it.
Bit of a leftfield supercar choice but I always had a softspot for it.

Partly because it had 4 Turbos.
4 Turbos! Now thats cool.

Cheers
Paul

Fair enough the skyline might be quicker round the ring, however the fact they lose serious amounts of money with every veyron sold, just so that could show off what they could do, is good enough for me to think it's one of the best ever made....

I love these too, the pic you posted up is a SuperSport model I think, with higher BHP and better suspension?

Quick and rare as firk.

Not sure, was a quick copy/paste from Google images, think I will have mine in Blue ....:)

the vyron may have 1001bhp but it cost £1m and if you belive the romours thats at a loss! the CCXR is just awsome!! i have seen two one on the way to Le mans it pulled into a petrol station ans instantly there were 30 guys around it, later another in the waiting area for the parade that goes around the le mans town, it was 2 days after the stig had driven it. It was stunning and costs nothing like the vyron.

Im a big fan of the CCXR, look fantastic, and has the wacky headline figures to match.

As a performance car though, EVO did a supercar group test a while back at the Ring and the test driver stuffed the CCX into the barriers (it was one of the 1st ever carbon bodied versions iirc), apparently it was too much of a handful with all of that power, compared to the Zonda, Enzo etc....

Still very cool IMO, much cooler than a Zonda or Enzo even if its not us useable.

Without a doubt for me it is a 356 my dream car to finish a garage. makes my knees go wobbly:

1956-porsche-356-speedster.jpg

Or to get to the point the best car is (or an early T1 split rear window):

61beetle-1.jpg

If i didnt already have one id really want one... but wish it looked as nice as this...

really set a benchmark in auto engineering.

I'm with mattfinn, it's the 993 GT2 or an AC Cobra for me :)

My favourite car of all time is the Mclaren F1!!!

It has to be the purest, prettiest, best sounding car EVER!!!

Yes, the Bugatti Veyron is spectacular, but does it really have any personality to the Mclaren?
No, i don't think so.
Mclaren F1-12 cylinder.
bugatti - 16 cylinder.
Mclaren-627bhp. Bugatti-1001bhp.
Mclaren- no turbo's. bugatti- 4 turbos....says it all!?

Bolt 4 turbo's and do the necassary to a mclaren F1 and you'd be on the other side of the farthest galaxy!!!:jump:

The Mclaren held the title of fastest production car for 15 +/- years for crying out loud!!!! The Veyron couldn't hold it for much more than 1. lol!

I have seen the veyron and Mclaren (as, im sure a lot of you on here have) at the festival of speed on several occations. Each time... the bugatti blends in like a hideous tank!

As Martin brundle says on the end of his DVD : "The Mclaren F1 is still the king"

:anbet:Mclaren F1

Sorry, rant over! lol!!

I am beyond unimpressed with the Bugatti "Vernon". It's lardy. It's dear. It's underpowered (when you consider how many cylinders and turbochargers there are in it) and it looks manky. For the price of 1 Vernon I could get me the 20 cars I've always wanted :p

These may not be the best cars ever but i like 'em

gt3_rs6.jpg

bwseats22kr3.jpg

koenigsegg-ccxr.jpg

and lastly, it may not be a supercar, but DAMN it's cool

hands down the best car in the world by no doubt in my head is this menacing masterpiece, i know its not production but if you got the cash you can get one......
