My 6 year old S3 is solid as a rock, with no squeaks or rattles, but, the driver's side door has developed a noise....it sounds like there is something inside moving about....like paper moving about!

Before I take the door panel off , anyone got anything similar? I was also thinking it might be that the door needs to be closed tighter?

What do you reckon?

i reckon you should undo the 3 screws an take off the panel. takes like 2 mins. bit pointless making a post about it. saying that im gonna make a post about my washer jets not working no more. no wait, its run outta water.:jester:

oh right. sorry about that.

It's not the first time I've seen you try to be funny and insult someone in the process (or their mum). The guy is asking for suggestions as to what might be causing a rattle in his door. If you don't have anything constructive to say then how about you just don't bother posting?

why dont you just step off. he asked a silly question that he could answer himself in a matter of 3 screws and 2mins work. he said ok. end off.
as for the mum comment. IT WAS A JOKE!

yeah coss your comment was real worth a post. not.
remember kids, just because your post count is high, dont make you right. :whistle2:

I dont think it was a silly question. Some people arent really that practicle with stuff like this and wanted some advice.

Good luck with finding the culprit of the noise S3fan. BTW to take the door card(panel) off there are 2 end caps on both the top corners of the door card which slide upwards, this reveals 2 screws. There is also a screw which holds the electric window controls on which needs to be removed. The whole door card can then be slid upwards and removed from the door.

my door does exactly the same thing, the passenger door is fine and sounds solid, but my door sounds like there something vibrating...

IT WAS A JOKE!

That only you found funny! Having a laugh at other people's expense is hardly funny.

S3fan didn't say "ok"..he felt he had to apologise for what was apparently a "pointless" post and people shouldn't be made to feel like that. We can't all assume that just because we drive nice cars that we immediately know how to fix them.

My post count has got nothing to do with anything! When I see something I don't like then I'll open my mouth and make it known. The belittling and sarcastic tone of your post was just unnecessary.

Thanks for the positive answers to what might be a stupid question to some, but it wasn't to me, or I wouldn't have posted it.

I have to be honest, taking a door panel off fills me with dread, but at least with the help of peeps like benr, I have a better idea of what to do.....which is one of the benefits of belonging to a forum.....

Yes it does fill me with dread too the first time i do something like this.. but sometimes you just have to take the plunge thats the way you learn. A haynes can help in these situations....

Theres not a lot you can do wrong. And you can always ask what you want on here to get your through. (most of us will be helpful)

Hi ,

i agree . The best bet is to ask questions anyway i had the same problem take the door off and have a look . And there is never a pointless question .

if you need anyhelp mate let me know :)

Its always worth asking a so called daft question, better than trying to remove the door card only to find there is a hidden screw and you damage something.

That only you found funny! Having a laugh at other people's expense is hardly funny.

ok cool, tell me a joke that isnt at someones expense or at somethings expence and i`ll apologize. until then you should shut it.

When I see something I don't like then I'll open my mouth and make it known.

and i take the same attitude, seemed like a pointless post that google would have answered so i said so. fairs fair dude.

An old maid wanted to travel by bus to the pet cemetery with the remains of her cat.

As she boarded the bus, she whispered to the driver, "I have a dead pussy."

The driver pointed to the woman in the seat behind him and said, "Sit with my wife. You two have alot in common."

Q. How many mice does it take to screw in a light bulb ?
A. Two. The hard part is getting them in the light bulb.

Q. When is a pixie not a pixie ?
A. When he’s got his head up a fairy’s skirt, then he’s a goblin

ok ok i`ll stop now.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side

taking 4 screws out scares you?

Well its not just knowing how to take out the screws its how to remove teh door card. As some door cards pull off and some lift off on diffrent cars.

The guy has just asked for help tbh and those kind of comments put people off communities like this.

oh and since when did you become a mod?

Since when did I have to be a mod to tell you I didn't like the way you posted? When you say something controversial you have to be prepared for people to disagree and make their opposing views be known. To be honest I wouldn't normally even go to the effort of saying anything but you really got my goat up.

I can see we're just going to have to agree to disagree on the subject and let S3fan's thread get back on track now.

To be honest I wouldn't normally even go to the effort of saying anything but you really got my goat up.

LOL just making a pointless reply and +1 my post count to show my avatar. hehe enjoy

btw have you managed to over come your "dread" of the terror that is 4 screws

thinking about it the irony is that i posted a link to show how to remove it too. unlike you guys who just slatted me. hmm irony

Stripping the door

First remove the door card. Unscrew the screws either end at the top:

windowfix2.jpg

Remove the screw under the door pull (circled, but not clear in the photo), pull out the cover, and remove the 2 screws underneath. The door card will now lift upwards and off. Watch out for the cables.

windowfix3.jpg

Release the metal clip, and detach the door release cable from the handle.

windowfix4.jpg

Disconnect the electrics from the door card. You'll need a small screwdriver for the window switch, as there's a small tab to release. You have to remove some foam from around the window/mirror switches too, but that's not in the photo. It just pulls out.

Now take the door card away and put it somewhere safe.

Hows That? Helpfull?

lol, he wants to take the door card off. how will that pic help?

S3fan - let me know if you want the elsa instructions uploaded.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side

why did the pervert cross the road?

because he had his nob in the chicken.

Dave, door card removal is a piece of **** as long as you take all the screws out

check the crash bar bolts on the end of the door if their lose the bars will be moving.

Thanks chaps....I will give it a go at the weekend.....need to see if I have a screwdriver....

Jason, put your nob away!

check the crash bar bolts on the end of the door if their lose the bars will be moving.

My 2003 had this as well - just look at the external 2 x big bolts at either end of the door (no need to take the card off) - both side were loose on mine! - tightened them up and my rattle was gone! Bliss!

Cheers

Jim

You were spot on with your diagnosis !!! checked the bolts on the door and 2 of them were loose, tightened them up and no more rattle, just a solid clunk as it should be....I'm well chuffed !! thanks again mate !!
