Changing Bulbs

Just bought some LED sidelight bulbs on ebay, but failing miserably at fitting them...

On both sides I just cant get the covers off the back of the headlight units? Once unclipped, I've only got a matter of millimetres clearance to the battery/washer bottle, and there's no way they're ever going to clear the back of the Xenon's.

I've seen threads on here stating it only takes a matter of minutes so what am I doing wrong?!

Whilst I'm there, need to adjust the Xenon's as the beam is currently 'flat' for driving abroad, I understand there's a little metal lever to do this, is it below the xenon once I've got the cover off?

It is a knuckle scrapper but can be done. I changed the sides and mains with no probs once the cover was off, the next problem was getting the fcukers back on! I have heard some say it is a piece of **** but I think they are A3 drivers as the S3 engine bay is such a tight fit!!

It really is a two minute job once the covers are off, which incidentally I find more difficult than changing the bulbs! There are two wires which go into the back of the sidelight bulb holder. Just grab them and give them a tug..et voila! The bulb holder and bulb should just pop out.

Don't forget that the LED sidelights only work plugged in one way so make sure you check they work before putting everything back together!

would fitting them the wrong way cause them to flash ,i bought a set at the weekend and when i tried them they just flashed ,didn't think to turn them in the holder.Looked pretty cool and i'm sure everybody would get out the way on the motorway .:busted_cop:haha

Normally if I've installed them the wrong way round they just don't work.
Funnily enough I had to replace my £2 eBay LEDs the other day because one of them had started flashing. Closer inspection showed that a couple of the little LED diodes had failed so I can only assume that's why it started flashing.

erm im thinking that your LED's will have had a flashing sequence in built, wrong polarisation shouldnt achieve that

incidently i took my battery out to change the hardest bulb, passenger side

cheers mate got these ones from auto bulbs direct they have 3 or 4 diodes on each bulb bit peed off as they look quite good nice and white .but hey what can you do

I spent ages twisting them, but infact they just pull out.

not a great deal, i bought off ebay from company called Ace parts (alan@aceparts.com), bought in March, 1 bulb has just gone... (common for LED's to not last very long)...emailed them last week and asked for couple new bulbs and mentioned that i would pay, and they are sending me 2 through the post at no cost.... initially they cost me £3 inc postage and they supplied two bluey normal fit 501 bulbs aswell!! (as alternative to LED's but werent white enough)cant fault this firm at all

turn them 180 degrees and fit again.

well worth it since it's almost matched the HIDs

i'll try them again next time it;s dry (prob about april)need to make do with the bluey ones just now cheers for the help,and sorry to have hijacked this thread.out of intrest is there more room behind the headlight on an s3 than an a4 as i found it easier to just take the whole light unit out
