VAG-COM - Folding Mirrors

Hello,

Question for those that understand Vag-Com.
Folding Mirrors. Is it possible to set them up so they auto fold when you lock the car, rather than having to manually turn the switch to pull them in.
I know it's lazy, but it'd be pretty cool if it could be set up!

Possible???

J

wish of mine too mate. Friend managed to wire his Astra Nurburgring up to do this so suppose its possible, doubt with vagcom though as someone would have found out how to do it by now.

Yeah I already have designed the circuit, it will work just waiting for my back to get better & for few parts to arrive so can complete my wiring mods, its a tricky circuit to build, given timer relays, diodes, fuses etc etc inline & you have to use a pulse circuit from the petrol cap lock that also has to be relayed given the 15kmh auto locking system so doesnt trigger the mirrors, took me days to find a pulse trigger given the resistance/ground based wiring they use now very hard work, but also allows use of the existing switch if you have oem folding mirrors(99.999999% sure)

No vagcom cant do this & yes it is ****** cool, lol, I had it on my S3 8L, closed the sunroof, windows, folded mirrors on single click audi remote, then unfolded when unlocked car, used to stand there & watch as it was so *****, lol, lol, sad but true

Pimp!

Only joking

I only ask as I had a Merc C63 last weekend and that did it. Thought it was such an obvious feature to have! Shame it's not as simple as Vag-Com doing it!
Doh!

& to add to this the peugeot 206 had ****** folding mirrors when you turn ignition & fold when key out, personally I prefer them as I had/will have on locking system

You cant even put the switch back to unfolded after you have turned the ignition off so they will "auto" unfol when starting the engine again when you come back to the car for some reason??

I would have thought that would have worked at least.

yeah its pretty poor the fold design... I need to fold mine often when doing over 10mph too... country roads and all that... but cant.

I agree - would be far better if they folded with the key remote. They also don't really 'fold' more like, 'move in a bit'. Would be better if they folded flush with the window or swung out the way somehow.

Did you think about using an ignition feed?

yes, but as I needed only a pulse the ignition feed is no good as its constant supply which would make the system just continually cycle & then probably burn the motors out

I meant as an enabler.

Staz - love your new sig pic mate

I thank you sir! :icon_thumright:

I thought I'd join the club of Sprint Blue owners with sig pics! And what better picture than from the 'Ring?!

As I already advised, ignition feed would continually cycle the timer relays anyway & eventually burn the motor out in the mirror as its already locked into position, it needs to be a pulse feed that only pulses once so motor are only activated once one way or another so as to not burn the motors out when locked into position, if that makes sense, ignition would be a constant which is no good for this circuit

NHL: How did you make it on the 8L? I'm about to make it on a Seat Leon MK1 which should be the same as the audi? I would like it to autoclose windows and fold mirrors is that possible? And how?

Welcome to the site

NHL, whats that National Hockey League, lol, be nice if you started with using my correct username mate, lol

Anyway, on the 8L, I actually created a circuit using the central locking pump as the triggers for lock/unlock then used a timer circuit to set it to power for the set time enough to fold/unfold, now given the mirrors work on reverse polarity, you need to relay the wires so for lock it sent power down one wire & ground other & then unlock switched it over to other wire & ground on other, so reversed the signal, if you get me, plus on the locking circuit you again use this as a trigger & tap into the full closure circuit by grounding or sticking a live on the appropriate wire at pump or drivers door using the timer again for the time needed to fully close everything, so when clicking remote with single click lock/unlock the folding circuits work & the full closure aswell.

I loved that system, was the best thing about my S3 that everyday I would use & always smile when it was running, ***** as I said before, but so cool, lol

But given the S3 8L didnt come with folding mirrors & nobody actually ordered them, audi didnt even list them as an option in the brochure, so had to specially order as they were actually listed for the 8L, it was to say the least a ****** expensive mod but so worthwhile, I mainly did as fedup seeing mirrors knocked of by lorries & other cars, then the poxy chav's starting stealing the mirrors, luckily touch wood & head havnt yet to date but I dont have the S3 anymore, miss it though, but everything has its time.

they fold in on the seat cupra via the key remote ,,,,and aint the s3 & the cupra meant to share alot of components ??????

Uh unfortunately thats more like wishful thinking mate for me & you, would you believe the Golf 5 has better tech functions than the 8P, unreal considering audi is there premium brand, or so they seem to say, simple things like auto folding should have been on the car, its not even an option oem route anyway.

ooooops ,got that one wrong then eh , agree with allother comments would be a great fearture ,and like ya say audi supposed to be the premium brand,,,,,,LOL ya can have on a lesser brand seat ,but not a top spec s3 !!!!!!!!!!!mmmmmmmm me thinks audi need a rethink .

Is possible anyone from UK be able to find a used set and sell to me in the US?

Welcome to the site.

I'll do better than that, I'm awaiting my new mirror setup, so I have my pristine set of folding, auto dimming, heated, blind sided on both glasses, electrical adjustment 4 way, alum covers & the pillars I will be offloading, this lot from audi is about £800-£900 given the glass cost alone is £300 upwards iirc, so if you're interested step up now mate & I'm happy to ship them to you when I have fitted mine.

I am just looking for the guts. I do not need the glass or the cover. Is your switch for right hand drive?

Ok then cant help with my kit, door switch can get from audi where you are for cheap, so no point buying from over here, they're the cheapest part of the kit tbh.

Noticed the mirrors fold using remote convenience closing with latest Leon FR too. Drove a brand new Golf with folding mirrors as an option and they don't fold in with remote... Must be the Germans that don't like it!

Its all down to the door modules mainly & an added option under convenience module I should imagine, I thought the mk5 had this feature to code tbh, ah no that was dual mirror lowering with one position on the switch, but I agree its pretty damn poor overall, for such a small feature to code huh.

I suspect the mk6 has this feature but that car wasnt coded for this, worthwhile asking a mk6 owner with vagcom to have a play.

I love the revivals!! There's always something that pops up that I forgot about
