Superchipped, before/after Dyno

i superchipped and put a drop in K&N to my S3 last week...
and i also dynoed the car before and after the remap..

one thing you guys need to know is this is the 255hp S3 which Audi sending to countries with hot weather... i think they only reduce the boost other than that all the same...

there is also one more thing on the dyno side; the kW figures are the correct ones and HP figures are converted from the kW figures.. but while converting, the software of the dyno takes it as 1kW=1.4HP where it should be 1kW=1.36HP AFAIK...

and this makes the HP figures as follows;
Before: 250.5 hp
After : 278,6 hp ( superchips + drop in K&N)
difference : ~ 28 hp

i will go to the dealer next week to see if they can do something for the map... it doesnt anywhere near they told and also the graph doesnt seem to be a proper one...

BTW i have no issues about the car other than less power..

anyway.. here is the graph, light colors show after the map and dark ones are before the map.. like light blue mapped TQ, dark blue stock TQ...

i would like to hear your comments on the dyno graph please..

uh not alot we can say, I mean I'm no full on mechanic but most 8P S3's get a nice 40BHP increase minimum I believe & from yours kinda looks very down on this TBH, what did they say you would get?

Just checked Revo's site & they say 40BHP increase on a stage 1

Just read the outside air temp, thats not exactly cool is it mate, did they dyno with fans at all to simulate the driving on roads even though I assume its fairly warm where you are as should still at speeds have coolish air coming in.
 
Think that has something wrong with it, only 220WHP is pretty low!! Seems like you could have some kind of restriction in the intake or exhaust, or possibly the engine is running low compression..

Either way it needs looking at by Audi!

outside temp is around 29-32 here in this season and -5 - +5 in winter..
but idont think outside temp will differ so much.. Superchips is saying to give around 310hp where aroun 300hp will be fine and herein ASN i read people get around 295-300 from superchips.. i have KN and i use 100octane shell..

i dont think its about the car because we tried with another S3 with superchips and we were always head to head... it may be the superchips sending maps here very restricted...
 
yeah if 2 cars are showing the same then go back to superchips fella & check with them directly as its poor, I was gonna suggest MAF but if 2 are the same cant be that TBH.
 
quick question : I noticed that the car was run in 5th gear. Any idea why it was run in that gear ?

FYI : We (S3 owners in SA) have found that 4th gear is the best for dyno'ing the 8P S3?

i dont have much knowledge about the dynos so i dont know why is it run in 5th gear or does the 4th is better :uhm:
 
To my knowledge dynos are run in a high gear to reduce speed of wheel acceleration and therefore be able to log more accurate results. If you were to dyno a car in 1st it would be over in under a second, but in 5th or 6th, it takes much longer, hence the logging machine can plot more points on the graph. Hope this makes sense....

i know that but why 5 instead of 6 i dont know its up to the dyno guy or there is car specific gears???
 
If Audi has spesified the S3 model sold in this country with less HP they could have changed the gear ratio as well. And maybe fifth gear is closer to the optimum ratio 1:0 for this use.
 
I think its a far more simple answer, the air temp and nearly 1000 mbar AKA Sea Level air pressure is not affecting your car!

The simple answer is octane!!! We get the potent stuff in the UK but some of southern Europe gets the euro spec juice as below!!

Euro-III Cities: Petrol is 91 RON minimum
Euro-II Cities: Petrol is 88 RON minimum
Euro-IV 91RON min. Changes are in Benzene content etc.

I am sure that all manufactures us 95 RON or higher during testing.

Fuel octane vs BHP

In turbocharged engines there is a fine balancing act when it comes to making a lot of power on low octane fuel. In most cases, ignition timing must be retarded as the boost pressure rises above a critical point and finally there reaches a further point where the engine simply loses power. If the timing was not retarded with increasing boost, destructive preignition or detonation would occur. Normal combustion is characterized by smooth, even burning of the fuel/air mixture. Detonation is characterized by rapid, uncontrolled temperature and pressure rises more closely akin to an explosion. It's effects are similar to taking a hammer to the top of your pistons.

Most engines make maximum power when peak cylinder pressures are obtained with the crankshaft around 15 degrees after TDC. Experimentation with increasing boost and decreasing timing basically alters where and how much force is produced on the crankshaft. Severely retarded timing causes high exhaust gas temperatures which can lead to preignition and exhaust valve and turbo damage.

We have a hypothetical engine. It's a 2.0L, 4 valve per cylinder, 4 cylinder type with a 9.0 to 1 compression ratio and it's turbocharged. On the dyno, the motor puts out 200hp at 4psi boost with the timing at the stock setting of 35 degrees on 92 octane pump gas with an air/fuel ratio of 14 to 1. We ****** the timing to 30 degrees and can now run 7psi and make 225hp before detonation occurs. Now we richen the mixture to 12 to 1 AFR and find we can get 8psi and 235 hp before detonation occurs. The last thing we can consider is to lower the compression ratio to 7 to1. Back on the dyno, we can now run 10psi with 33 degrees of timing with an AFR of 12 to 1 and we get 270 hp on the best pull.
