S3 8P owners fuel questions

don't know where you guys are getting these figures - 170tdi dsg, cold weather, heated seats on lots, driving normally - i struggle to hit the 30mpg mark - thats 330-340 miles per tank

ive had myn 2 weeks now, and a full tank did 280 miles.
but last night give it some hammer and when i got home, the average fuel consumption was 13mpg, but i enjoyed it. :)

Mine now has covered 13000 Km and the fuel consuption as improved slightly (or I don't trash it as I used to... lolol) Average fuel tank good for 400km (mixed driving, town, motorway, etc). In a trip to Marbella I used 2 tanks of fuel and did 900km so it wasn't bat, manly motorway though...

Having said all this if I trash it all the time 300km is about right for a tank

Mine probably isnt very accurate, but what the heck.

Shell V-power + 1/4 tank of dealer fuel (not sure what they use).

Half a tank gone, traveled 190miles. (70% highway, with the occasional throttle happy moments)

Engine is still fairly new, this figure should improve after a while right?

lol mine never saw any of these figures but i fink my driving style has summat to do with this, i got on average 250 from a tank on a good day, and as littel as 200 sometimes on others... :faint:

hell klauster either you do lots of town driving or you trash it everywhere!! lololol But that's what the S3 is made for and he likes it!!

I have to be sensible because been collecting some points in my license...

Pedro

Had my car for a week - 210 miles from filled to brim to empty on Vpower.

Worth every penny! :)

Update on my s3 - now at 2500miles, still getting ~200 miles from a tankful, and reading 21.2 on the lifetime average mpg, This is mainly stop start traffic commuting to work and tends to vary between 17mpg and 22mpg depending on how the traffic is. When I get on a motorway I dont see more than 27mpg average over the total journey (~100miles).

On the whole its about 10% less efficient than my previous car (Honda s2000) on the same journeys.

No idea how audi get 30 odd mpg for their official figures.

Some interesting consumption figures there guys. Currently driving 350z and on a 60miles a day commute, I am averaging 25 - 27mpg. Mixture of dual carriageway and A roads.
I am thinking about swopping the 350z for an S3 for a bit more practicality and improved fuel consumption. Was not expecting 40mpg but somewhere around 30+ mpg.
What sort of revs are you running at when doing 80 ish?

Rich
p.s. 55l tank! Trying filling 70+ litres at 117p/l for V-power

I'm getting 30mpg on the commute to work over 44 miles each way.

When its play time, you'd ne lucky to see anything over 26mpg.

Thats why i'm selling it for a 170 FR Leon. The cost of fuel and depreciation of a high miler S3 will kill me.

My car has done 7500 miles. And I can achieve 33mpg if I drive it like a saint :D (on a motorway run.)

Ooh,i know this isn't a new thread, but i'm getting anywhere between 3 and 4 hundred to the tank! Nope, not Sunday driving either, typically a stop start congested motorway or two daily,or if its really bad some lovely country singletrack, and then a 240 mile trip on a bit of A road and M1 for 120 miles! Just to give you an idea....averaging 92 mph over a 2 3/4 hour journey takes me down to about 300 to the tank.
The car is unmodded,...at the mo:eyebrows:,typically running on Sainsburys 95 ron...well you'd only be putting the cheap stuff in if you'd done 20k in less than a year!!

myn is avg 26mpg, i went to birmingham last week at 65mph, (dont ask had the ex mother in law in - speed limiter)
and 220 mile round trip i got 36mpg :)

I'm getting 19.9 miles to the gallon on the DIS , it's all little short trips and FUN drives for me at the moment.

I'm not doing the miles at the moment so i fill up every 1-2 weeks , Tesco99 £109.9 LT , it was yesterday.

I'm lucky the wife has a unlimited fuel card from work. lol

I have only put in normal 85 ron in mine since new, it has about 3,500 miles on it now and after reading the threads - V Power seems the way to go for the S3 performance wise.

Will the fact that I have been using 95 ron so far affect the long term performance?

Also should i run the fuel tank really low before putting the V Power in?

I assume you mean 95 ron.

It won't affect the long term performance no. The engine is designed to work with different fuels.

Why would you run it low? The fuels will just mix together and then eventually you'll just have V power on it's own.

While this thread is at the top again though the other day I drove from Germany to Calais and with the cruise on 80MPH for nearly the entire journey I achieved about 33MPG and 450 miles from a tank. Not bad!

i was stuck in alot of cack traffic this morning doing between 30 and 60 mph but constantly moving and managed 39.5 mpg from my s3 with bp ultimate in it and 10k on the clock. Thats actually more than i ever got from my mk5 gti on the same journey.
Just shows that if you want it to then an s3 can be fairly good on fuel.

How much??!!

39.5 mpg??!!

I've never managed above 33ish, even when I've really been trying. What am I doing wrong?
i did purposely try and see what i could get it up to so was changing gear just above 2k revs and had the aircon on econ mode too. i thought i was gonna break 40 mpg for a bit lol.

Funny that this thread has been ressurected. Since having the remap done i was interested to see how MPG was affected.

So i did a nice drive from HGTE, to Wetherby, then onto leeds. About 25miles in all.

It was moslty B roads, and apart from getting stuck behind an arctic for about 5miles, it was pretty undisturbed driving.

The car managed 35.8mpg. I drove it very calmly, not over revving, but not driving purposely slowly either (i planted it a couple of times).

I was happy with that ;)

My map actually give me 10mpg more .. driving sensable getting 39 -41 mpg on v power... and actually did 174mph at 7mpg lol :) i was aiming for dashes...

Jim at star performance told me that the valet map that you can get for £35 extra on your giac uploader which knocks the boost down to 0.4 bar and 180 bhp will get you another 5mpg, so if the wife is driving or your just stuck in traffic it might be worth a go.

Normal 30 mile journey home at 70-75mph and the car is not yet at 2k miles. (I did see 39.9mpg before driving through my estate and parking in my garage)

Just thought I'd give an update on this.

My S3 is now at 7000miles, and I did my usual mainly motorway run, which I havent done in maybe 3000 miles, I used to get between 26 and 28mpg average over the whole of this run (~90 miles each way, probably 80 of those miles on the motorway ), yesterday I got 32mpg on the way there and 34mpg on the way back.

I've no idea why the sudden increase in MPG, I'm very surprised by it. the speeds were broadly the same, I didnt drive differently to normal, it was shell v power in the tank, which is what I use all the time. Not sure whether its to do with the engine loosening up, or the warmer whether , or both, but I'm really surprised at the improvement. Anyway its all good.

I've just done a 300 mile drive up from Devon,so mostly motorway,1 passenger and both our holiday luggage on board - 450 to the tank! And that's running on 97 ron BP,as i couldn't find Shell and she was near empty! I had similar figures throughout the 1500 mile trip over the last 2 weeks,Shell was used where available, and i run a GIAC hammer map and forge intake.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but i'm looking to buy a S3 (8P) probably a 2008 car. Parkers say 31 MPG (Combined) alot of you above are getting alot less than this. Where did they get those figures from?

The stated figures are always higher than the actual economy because of the way the cars are tested. The S3 is an amazingly economical car if you want it to be though. After ADI last weekend I stuck to a rigid 70 on the way back. I filled up and the computer said my range was 440 miles!

Hi all,

Just running through some figures and was wondering the following

How many miles do you get out of a tank usually?
How much does it cost to fill the tank?
What fuel are you using?

Thanks

ive had 340 to a tank with tesco 99 fuel ,full tank cost 56 quid ,with mixed driving ,,,,some good some , some bad,,,,,lol :hubbahubba:
enjoy the car tho !!!!!!!!! more impotantly

Still running mine in so keeping the revs under 3K however I am averaging 31\32 MPG and getting anything from 330 to 350 from a tank currently. I suspect that will change once I put my foot down!!!! At 60MPH driving down the A1 when I bought the car, I was averaging just shy of 40MPG over 200 miles of driving, mainly motorway.
