K03S Fitted- Results Inside!

The Scirrocco.com can provide a Peloquin LSD for £365 at todays exchange rate. So if you dont have a contact in the US you'd need to also pay shipping to the UK, 5% import and 17.5% VAT on the total.

That makes it around £500 legally imported into the UK. It also has an inbuilt speedo cable and the bolt kit comes with it.

In comparison the Quaife is £685 and £80 for the bolt kit.

They both offer unlimited, lifetime warranties and they are both Torsen (think old Audi Quattro) gear set-ups.

Fitting needs to be done by a pro, as you need to remove the gearbox, pull the 5th gear and make sure everything is correct when assembled again.

I asked for delivery to NYC and with the sales tax, it worked out to £390 to get it to the UK. (not paying customs or import).

Thats more than £365 but still very cheap. It'd work out less than £600 to get it ehre and fitted by a competent person, and £ for £ probably the best modification you could do once the car has that amount of power.

HTC - When you had your K03s, did it slightly overfuel on run-off, as in, did it pop and bang after taking your foot off, or changing gear slowly?

My company has offices in Houston. I can get the diff shipped to there and then the company will send it to me free of charge in one of our crates. Need to check on that for sure tho.

My k03s map did not pop on over run, however I was running the standard cat back which has more baffles and may have diguised the sound. MPG was very good on that map.

Grrr JKM RR day is full, im down for reserves so hopefully see you guys there:)

Awesome!

My clutch is slipping a treat, and I can't find someone to lighten my new flywheel in time, so it looks like I'll brave it with a slipping clutch :)

It doesn't always slip in 4th, so it should be alright!

The JKM RR pages will read like the story of your car soon. "Dieing turbo", "slipping clutch" etc etc.

I still can't believe how Rich manages 320bhp on a stock clutch?!

Andy,

Whats the full spec of yours?

250/260 ft lb's is impressive!

And with the quattro system you must be able to put the power down easily!

Perhaps he drives like a granny? It's the only way it's possible! Custom code is the smoothest map out there, and mine still gave up after a month, and the clutch was only 30k old!

My Clutch is 15-20k old seems fine at the moment?

Im sure before long it'll start slipping though now ive just said that!

J

Well, mine was mapped in Jan, and It's been on and off the road ever since with problems, but it's now started slipping, 1 month after i got everything sorted out finally.

It was a tiny slip at first, but it's getting worse every day.

Started out as only ever in 5th at low revs, and I can still drive it quick, just not floor it on the motorway at all!

G60 flywheel and vr6 clutch on it's way to JNL racing to be lightened, before heading back to me :)

God knows how old my clutch is but it aint started slipping yet , although its rarly running at full power ATM.

Have had G60 clutch and flywheel sitting in my house since november, and im yet to get it lightened:ermm: lol

Will be done soon though hopefully.

Josh - I've never ever ever seen a RR day where everyone turns up, so I reckon you'll definately get a run on the JKM day.

my clutch has started to go. mines been remapped about 6months ago. first felt like MAF or something but now the clutch has started to slip.cars done about 72000, 2000 s3

great, well i hope someone drops out before it,as its a long way to go just to hope someone doesn't turn up lol

you will get on mate easily, last time we booked 2 cars, 17 turned up, and they had all been on the dyno before 12:30! you will get on for sure.

Well, it's official. Jason and I met up tonight at NoRice

from 0-'something quickish' There is basiclcly nothing in between the jabba and custom code maps, a second gear sprint from 30mph to the redline and there was NO difference at all, not even a metre one way or another!

Top end also seems to pull pretty much exactly the same too.

If anything, I'd say the Custom Code map is a bit more violent, with a much higher boost spike lower down, making it intersting for a country lane jaunt, keeping it on the torque.

Overall, both maps seem very similar, and neither car was faster at all!

When you say "something quickish" are we talking 100?

I seem to be able to hit 100 pretty easily, its after that you notice having to push for the extra speed.

Its going to be REALLY interesting to see the maps in 2 weeks then.

J
See sig for spec and yes it does put the power down well, hopefully grip levels will increase as tweaks are added, more camber, better tyres etc.Bhp has been reasonably consistant on the 3 different rolling roads its been on,amd 251,tsr 247 and awesome 207@wheels which with losses should be on par, torque has varied 295lbft amd,265@tsr,awesome 261 even though spec on the day was identical ie fuel octane and revo sps3 settings.Awesome did pull the haldex fuse to try to get a flywheel fig,215bhp @wheels front drive only, but they said fly fig was 227bhp which means 20 bhp losses from a quattro?and 12bhp losses from fwd err i dont think that works out at all, dyno lottery guys.Cheers Andy

sounds good lads!!! Any of you going to GTI spring fest sunday? Im planning on going, weather permitting, fancy a crack at the quarter mile.

Me and Prawn met last night and had a nice blast down his end of the A3, was pretty scary as ive never driven on that road before.

Was great fun though, Absolutely NOTHING in it at all.

We did a 2nd gear flat out run and they were neck and neck im talking millimeters in it, Be interestign to see what we get on the RR day.

Josh, i might have that TT gear knob if you come down to JKM. Who you going to GTI spring fest with? Is it this Sunday?

J

Following discussions of what people are boosting, I put an N75J on mine last night. I removed my chavvy boost gauge last week so cant provide actual figures but you can hear more air and it seems to hold for longer.

Currently no limp mode or hesitation issues. Still pops and bangs like a mofo so I'm sure underfuelling isnt going to be an issue.

Dave,

Where is the N75 J located?

Ive heard so many stories of it all going wrong with the N75J, You must feel it boosting more now though?

Perhaps they run ok on the AGU's?

J

The N75J is on one of the takeoffs on the TIP, the N75 has three takeoffs, one into the TIP, another to the N75 takeoff on your intercooler and the final one to the wastegate.

Funnily enough last night I was fitting it, didnt realise it went in backwards and had to ring prawn to confirm and ended up tracing the N75 to the coolant bottle. F'ing stupid arrangement of confusing wires. I was never any good at those kids games where you have to see which fisherman caught the fish either.

You do feel it boosting more, and it 'feels' faster but from known point to known point it doesnt seem to be faster, maybe it is by half a car length or something. I took the telemetry box out the car as well and theres no way I'm wiring that all back in and I cant find the car charger.

As said, as mine seems to run low boost in comparison to Prawns, and mine definately overfuels, I thought I could maybe get away with it.

That said, I intended to order a normal N75 but clicked on the wrong link so its lucky it worked!

Was it a bit of a ******* to fit then?

Ive heard stupid stories like " N75J Gave me 20BHP" JKM's rollers will tell i guess!

You keeping your A3 now then Dave i take it....?

J

Mine seems to over fuel a little too.

When I fitted my new tail pipes a few weeks back, I took it out for 2 mile run, and after just 2 miles, the shiney insides of the pipes were jet black and thickly coated in soot.

Mine also pops and backfires a LOT driving around town, even with a milltek 200cel cat in place!

So tempted to decat it and fit an atmospheric DV just for some flame popping action :p So I can fit in with the local rude boys :)

As said, mine runs 22psi, but it's a random one, I've been fiddling with the length of my actuator arm to get it to boost right.

It was mapped at 1.5 bar, and I've been adjusting the waste gate until it works properly, as for some reason, some ******* had slackened my arm RIGHT off and I was only seeing 14psi MAX after fitting my new turbo.

J

It's dead easy to fit mate, a monkey with no arms could probably do it in 4 minutes. it's that simple.

The bhp increase is not so stupid though, read this thread:
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=4578

Glen said on average he made 8bhp and 20lbft increase when running the N75J valve.....

I want to find a way to get mine to hold boost a little longer, as it's great at 22psi peak, but it falls FAR too fast, and drops off to as little as 10psi at the redline, which is TOO low I reckon, the turbo should be able to hold at least 15psi to the redline.

Kev, what kind of boost did your KO3S manage to hold at the redline?

Yeah, the online stuff seems to suggest it give 3psi more boost. Which for Prawn would mean 25psi and a broken car. For me, whos map hits 18psi max, mean I can run 21psi (max safe levels for a K03s) which should mean I'm on the acceptable limits and exploiting all the power available.

That said, apparently the BHP will be slightly less, but more mid-range torque, which is EXACTLY what I'm after.

A3 Turbo - I'm now waiting 12 months until I change the A3, for various reasons, but the most compelling is the bonus that I get next march will cover 50% the cost of the new car. So makes sense financially to wait....

Well as Dave is running the N75J he should donate it for 1 run to all us Audi-sport members for 1 run at JKM :D hehe.

Prawn mine peaks at just over 1 Bar and holds right up to the redline......

I Guess its just a lottery with the N75J some get Limp mode some dont?

J

It all depends on the map.

So the above vag-come stuff isnt really applicable.

Dave - where did you order your N75 from and how long did it take to come? I ordered one from vagparts last friday and still no sign:(

found out that mines here, got delivered to the shop 2 doors down and they decided not to tell me.

ARGHHHHH!! it hasn't worked:(

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing my fluctuating boost??

HELP!

I've heard of duff spark plugs causing irratic boost due to slight missfires. Seeing as you've already tried the N75 and all.

You could get yourself a set of copper core plugs just as a test as they won't break the bank for a set (in fact copper plugs are very good for turbo cars, they just don't last very long).

The problem with running the k03s with high boost at redline is you risk the danger of pumping too much hot air. This can crack the exhaust housing in no time. The tuners know this and tune accordingly. However, there is no harm in adding a few psi across the range if you don't run into limp. Never tried the J valve. I loved the H valve, for the extra kick at low revs, but as mentioned simply wouldn't work at full throttle after about 4000rpm.

Apologies for my bad memory, but I can't rememeber exactly what boost I was getting at redline. I think it was more than 10psi tho.
