Hi all,

Just running through some figures and was wondering the following

How many miles do you get out of a tank usually?
How much does it cost to fill the tank?
What fuel are you using?

Thanks

Miles to a tank - 300 to 315.

Cost - 52 litres x whatever the current cost is.

Fuel - Shell V-Power.

:)

My journeys are relatively short so @ 280 per tank for me - 24.8mpg according to DIS which seems accurate. (280miles/11.4 gallons)

Long journeys are a different story with 30mpg averaged fairly easily - speed dependant.

Dont buy the S3 for economy buy it for fun.

Around 280 m.p.t for me too. As above forget about how much it drinks/ costs to fill and just enjoy it!:jump:

I intend to and the cost, or the comsumption of fuel isn't of any concern.

I am just updating my household figures and wanted to put something accurate into the monthly fuel costs field

Thanks for the input guys :respekt:

If I bled it dry probs about 310 per tank, only put V power in from new and according to the DIS which I have not reset since I got it I have averaged 28.1mpg over 8700 miles.

Best I have seen is 36mpg over a 30 mile trip which had slow moving traffic which amazed me as the car certainly drinks the fuel compared to the old S3.

Not sure on milage on a tank, according to DIS i'm getting 18.9 mpg at the moment but i've only had it for 3 days which may explain that :lmfao:

OMG...how slow is everyone driving?

I am getting about 240 from a tank...and I aint going too mad either...

I got 335 miles to a tank today before i had to refuel :) I had filled it up to the brim, over 57 litres, and do a mix of motorway and city driving.

Not bad considering the car is barely run in, covered only 850 miles so far....

For the last 3 or 4 tanks about 190 MPT, mainly due to a lot of late night driving ;), but when I drive sensibly anywhere between 290-340MTP is normal. I recon if I drove like a granny it would do 400MPT.

I am amazed with some of the figures here!

I can not got anywhere near these!

Me too - some serious variation on what people are getting!
Mine's averaged 26.7mpg in 6600 miles. The first 2500 iles saw the DIS stuck below 24mpg whilst running in.
Now on a long trip if i'm sensible I can get about 31mpg over a 270 mile trip to see my family. Bit if i'm honest most trips see it average about 27-28mpg as I have some good detours off the motorways!!!!
On a track day I saw 13mpg!!!!

I don't know about how far per tank as i just keep sticking petrol in. On they way to work urban driving but no traffic (early O clock) i get around 30mpg, on the way home in rush hour traffic the same journey i get around 19mpg. Out of town and including a fair amount of spirited driving i get around 23/24mpg. Not tried economy driving ..... not sure how to ;-).
I bought the S3 for the fun factor so fuel does not come into the equation, as said i just keep filling her up.

How many miles do you get out of a tank usually?
approx 340 ... was originally 300, but over the last 6months its improved

How much does it cost to fill the tank?
When its pretty empty, about £50ish

What fuel are you using?
Tesco's Finest:nyah:
(I'm not into all this fancy new fuel stuff!)

I don't fill up a full tank ever but this is what I get roughly:

125-135miles

£10

Shell V-Power on a 2.0TDI 140

hmmm im getting around 450km / 55L - that's around 280miles on a full tank - spirited driving :p

my Subaru WRX STi ( 400hp+ ) i used to get around 180miles off 60L and only ran 102.6 octane haha ;(

I still don't know how you can get so much from your S3 ... do you ever go over 2000 rpm ?

Fuel eh? About 260/280 miles per tank using super unleaded from a variety of sources. Averaged 24 mpg in 8900 miles

Incidentally, a service is due in 1000 miles and I've only just had to top the oil up with 0.5 litre.

I struggle to get 350km (approx 220miles) on a tank.
My average consumption since I got the car (8000km) is 13.5l/100km.

Get about 280 miles per tank with a heavy right-boot!.. :)

Fill up with Shell V-Power as often as possible and at last pump visit paid 106.9/litre for 52 litres which was £57 or so :(

-Sal-

250-270 miles from a tank from me. All on Shell Optimax, but I hear Tesco 99 is very capable so am tempted to try it. Avg 26mpg and £52 per tank.

Anyone tried Ultimate 102 yet?

I recall someone testing it some time ago, goes off to search.....

I'm getting about 200 miles out of a tank of Shell V power, but the car s brand new and has less that 500 miles on the clock. DIS shows 17mpg. This thing is thirsty.

Does fuel economy improve much as the car gets run in?

Dis shows from new (3000 miles)adverage of 38mpg, current 28.1mpg
When I get a move I get a move on.rest of the time I drive economically

:sorry:

Average of 38mpg?????? That's a typo right?
Mine's averaged about 27-28mpg after 7000 miles, highest i've had on a 260 mile run is a 30mpg average for that trip.
It's a thirsty car, be in no doubt about it.

I noticed a significant improvement after about 1500 miles, in both the speed that the engine picks up and the economy. You'll ahve to suffer till then i'm afraid! It's worth it though eh!

How the hell do you even work this out?

And why do you S3 guys care, you dont hear us 3.2 boys moning about it. :)

I guess it could be somthing to do with the Diesel like noise of your 4 ports on cold start up.

I'm only messing of course, but seriously?

Thats what it says on the dis (dont know how accurate that is) and I have been driving since 1905 (oops typo)old fart with nothing to prove,

Car works it all out for you in the DIS - I have my average from new and then another setting gives you your average each journey.... so I can't claim to be of super intelligence and worked out each trip and lifetime MPG!

I don't care personally - I didn't buy the car for economy, but some people have asked the question and other owners are answering.... that's the joy of this forum right????

Ha ha ha, OK, Ok you have the better sounding engine I agree, but the S3's will leave you behind, so we can't hear it anyway ;)

I find this thread very interesting. I have a MKiv R32 and i'm about to change to an S3.

I get around 300-320 miles from my tank. The fuel tanks appear to be roughly the same. Maybe i drive like a granny, but my driving mainly consists of 50mph most of the way into work with hardly any stops.

On another slightly different note, the Golf Edition 30 gets between 270-290.

I use my car on a 60mile round trip everyday (95% dual carrage way) the best I have ever reached is 32.4mpg on DIS that is sitting between 68-70mph no faster! car has done 3600miles.

I dont bother with high octane fuels! to expensive :(

If you redline it at all this will average 22mpg.

Mike

How much would you calculate you spend a week on fuel?

Whats the formulae

I drive exactly 60miles per day I average 27mpg on this run.

Therefore: 60mls/27mpg= 2.222gallons or 10.1litres (using 4.545 conversion factor) per day.

10.1 ltrs used/day x fuel price (£0.99) =£9.99p each day! x 5days (5day week)= £49.99p per week

Another way to do it is to fill tank to the brim reset distance counter. Drive for your week then in exactly in 7days fill the car again (regardless if empty) record the litres loaded into tank.

With this info you will now have litres consumed per week and also the mileage on the clock.

You can convert litres back to gallons as we Brits love mpg not mls/ltr do this by dividing litres by 4.545

To work out your averaged mpg take the mileage and divide by gallons used.

Cheers,
Mike

Due to this reason alone it is actually cheaper for me to buy a 2nd car (VW Fox 1.2) and run that to work.

I put less miles on Audi which so it wont take a hit when i come to sell it and the Fox does about 48mpg average. it costs me £28/week to do it this way.

Being group 1 insurance it also doesnt cost much to insure and being a eu-star4 its a safe car.

Its no S3 but its not trying to be..... could buy 4 of them for S3 money.

Mike

My goodness isn't petrol cheap in Aberdeen and kids get to go to Uni free.. Got any jobs up there?

Thanks Mike :arco:

Ok so i'm trying to calculate how much it'd cost me in the S3 8L a week:

a) To goto work & home it's 15miles.
b) Go out after work say roughly another 15miles.

15+15=30miles a day

30miles x 2.222 = 66mpg

66mpg / 4.545 = 14.5

14.5 x 1.15 (shell v-power unleaded) = £16 a day

Use the car 5days a week x £16 = £80 a week

I think I got something wrong there...

okay 15+15= 30 miles a day
lets assume your car is doing 30mpg = 1gallon per day x days of week 5?
5 gallons per week x £5.00per gallon= £25 per week

or I fill up tank zero milometer do 350 miles fill tank back up with 53 litres of fuel
350miles divide by 53 litres = 6.60 miles per litre x 4.54 (litres in a gallon)

6.6 x 4.54 = 29.96 miles to the gallon

£25 a week! You sure? That's better than my TDI lol. And you gettin 29mpg is pretty good, theres 8L owners claiming they only see 25mph roughly

Hi I was using that as an example
As regards my S3 thats what the dis shows and they tend to be a bit suspect on accuracy
