8v Steering Wheel On 8p

Hello guys!

I now have my 8V Steering Wheel installed, actually its better for you to buy the A4 8K Steering Wheel, because they have the Lowline buttons you need. the 8V Steering Wheel comes with Highline buttons.
(there is more cars than A4 8K with Lowline)

My car is a 04' 8P Lowline from scratch, i have installed steering Wheel module 8P0953549F and if you want your steering angle sensor to work you need the Slipring D.

If your car is with the newer angle sensor witch is not lokated behind the steering wheel, i dont Think you need to change your Slipring, because steering Wheel buttons are working with slipring A, C & D. The Slipring D needs a new type of airbag harness!
(this is for those who have 08' and forward)

Highline Buttons will NOT work at all, and Lowline Buttons will work with steering Wheel module 8P0953549F and 8P0953549K,

Here is how they give signals:

Thumb left: Up/Down Working!
Thumb Right: Up/Down Working!
Buttons: 0001/0010/0100/1000

0001
: Next/FastForward Working!
0010: Not Used (mode)
0100: Not Used (voice control)
1000: Not Used (mute)

(I don't have the paddles on my steering Wheel so I don't know if they work or which code they are using)

If someone know how to tweak this codings, get in touch!! should be really nice if someone make the Mode and Mute buttons to work!
(maybe change the RNS-E to use 0010 to change source for example)
Hello fellow audi owners ^^

The dream is to fit an 8V steering wheel to a 2011 8P DSG facelift with an aftermarket head unit using an aftermarket steering wheel control adapter.

Absolute forum noob here so please forgive any courtesies that may be omitted.

I've recently bought a 2011 facelift 8p DSG 2.0l TDI and i think it's the absolute nuts. brilliant upgrade from my old 6n2 boy racer polo for sure!

The only thing missing in this lovely new car is a loud, balanced, high fidelity, aftermarket audio system.

What you guys have been talking about, with regards to steering wheel controls, has all hinged around OEM solutions.

Q: Is there a way that a DSG 8v (8WO419091DH 16-20) wheel could transmit the steering controls to an aftermarket head unit via way of an aftermarket steering wheel control interface ?

Q2: Is there a way that a DSG 8v steering wheel's shift paddles could be made to be recognised by my 8p DSG gearbox ?
- i see no reason why the DSG controls would be a part of the canbus system but again, am noob.

i hope somebody reads this. I'm very excited to start working on something cool :)
many thanks in advance ^^

1. Yes with the proper can bus decoder for the specific headunit it will pick up 8P available controls once you translate the 8v commands to 8p.
2. Not without a proper mfsw converter moduel as 8v and 8P speak a different language (LIN). Paddels are part of the LIN communication so they will not work either. Get a converter, mount it in the steering wheel and all 8P commands + dsg will work off the 8v wheel

Wow i was seriously not exoecting such a prompt and informative reply !!

Before anything else, thanks so much !!!
That wheel looks incredible

So with your setup, what buttons do you actually have working and what buttons could i expect to get working with the right modules ?

Because from what you're saying it sounds like there's no chance of gaining any extra functionality from the steering wheel despite the extra buttons

Also - do have any part numbers or links to the correct modules to get everything working ?

Thanks again, you're an outright legend :)

You can only use the buttons available in the A3 8P , additional buttons require custom steering wheel module to make them work .
To get the normal ones to work you can buy any 8v to 8p "translator" , there are alot of people making them nowadays , CHD Projects on FB , there's some russion ones, there is Electrovag in FR , I do one as well :)

Right, i see.

Do you have an idea of where i could find such a custom steering module ?

If I'm installing a wheel with lots of buttons, I'd like for them to work

Also, what's your current reccomendation on vcds/ vagcom software? I feel like im going to need it haha
