I have to leave it parked up for two weeks in my work Carpark while I’m on holiday. I want to protect the car against bird poo and anyone walking past and scratching it.

I have to leave it parked up for two weeks in my work Carpark while I’m on holiday. I want to protect the car against bird poo and anyone walking past and scratching it.

Believe it or not, the cover will probably do more damage. Especially if it's outside as it will move and blow in the wind. I appreciate what you mean about the bird poo, but at least it's not hot enough for it to bake on yet. If the car is coated then don't worry too much, if it's not coated then any etchings left behind will machine off no bother at all.

Why would a soft cover made by Audi scratch the car? I accept I plan to use it outside and it is an indoor cover. But I find it hard to believe that is going to be worse than someone walking past and scratching the car because they didn’t pay attention to where the suitcase or the zips on their jacket were…

Even if it rains for 2 weeks it will be fine I’m sure.

I think you'd be surprised how much damage a cover blowing in the wind for a couple weeks would be versus a single, possible, brush past by someone. Indoors wouldn't be too bad but outdoors I would agree with the rest of the guys and just leave it.

Is it parked right where people are likely to have to squeeze past it and scratch it? I imagine if you parked in the furthest away corner from the door then no one should be walking past it and that should keep her safe.

I will park it as far away as possible but that car park is always busy so over 2 weeks there is no way that someone else wouldn't park near me. But I will consider what has been said about the cover before I use it.

Depending on how secure or private the car park is, I might suggest that nothing shouts out louder to the malicious members of our civilisation than a cover - they see that as 'Come and damage me'. TBF, some would see the RS3 uncovered in exactly the same way

My detailer told the dealer specifically not to put a cover on the car prior to collection when he dropped the car back off, because of the scratches they can cause.

Had a specific outdoor cover on my corsa (many many moons ago). The cover was specific to the corsa 3 door and fitted like a glove with all the relevant tie downs etc, stopped bird poo but scratched the bell out of everywhere else

It just makes no sense - I accept the feedback and the argument as to why it isn’t a good idea is valid but it is beyond stupid!

Same world where people think getting protection applied by a dealer because they're the experts is a good thing.
With car covers it's simple - ever dry wiped your car with a microfibre? Immediate swirls.
Multiply that by two weeks of wind gently rippling, dust getting underneath and people brushing past dragging a dry fabric over the car and you'll end up with a car with a fair bit of marring.
And the Audi thing, just because it's branded Audi, doesn't mean a thing, Audi have nothing to do with their design at all just generic covers with a printed logo on.
This is the same Audi that will tickle your bodywork with Ostrich feathers before panel painting but then let their valeter put scratches through the lacquer on first wash.
If people quote 'but it's Audi' then usually that's a sure fire way that there marketing and branding departments have done their job. See things for what they are, it's just a massive piece of cloth cut to fit your car made in China that's designed to irradicate the greater of two or three evils.

All relative mate. And if you are more than happy putting your RS3 through a car wash, or letting “hand car wash” people wash your car, then there is nothing to worry about putting said “protective cover” on your pride and joy to stop bird droppings and people “brushing past it”
