RS3 8Y General Discussion Thread.

As an aside, have any of your cars exhausts got slightly louder as the miles increase?

It’s probably in my head but now I’m at 1500 miles on the odometer the car seems a bit louder, or have I got it wrong?

Not got my Rs3 yet but my s3 started to get louder and louder. Took about 5k miles to start getting on song but it was a huge difference from when it was new. At 50k now and it's super loud. Hoping the rs3 is going to be the same.

Louder yes, mines different with the JB4 on under load too, burbles more on the overrun as I lift off the throttle.

Is that to do with carbon building up around the exhaust tips or something else?

I thought on GPF cars there was no carbon buildup - guessing there’s just less of it or something.

Does anyone know if when my car comes in the dealer would let an outside detailer take the car to ceramic coat and give it back to them for me to pickup "officially" . I've emailed my dealer and no answer yet. I just don't want to collect my car then hand it over for 3 days. Cars due in anytime now to the dealer and im away working until early Dec so just trying to get ahead of the game really, I imagine it's probably not possible due to insurances and liabilities etc etc
My RS4 and the RSQ3 were both detailed before pickup at the dealers though.

Yes, there an increase in the number of different sounds that occur. If timed right, shifts up now pop rather than thump.
I've also accidentally discovered if you try to drive off in N but then lift off when you realise, the car can make an almighty pop/backfire. Car needs to be warm and it can only be done once before needing a few more miles of driving to repeat.
Happened a good few times and sounds brutal.

That's good to hear. Can't say I ever put the car in neutral so haven't had that happen, but I might just have to try it. :tearsofjoy:

Even with the ASR controller and valves open there's something else that happens just as you pull up to a stop, in the last foot before the car stops the exhaust note changes, goes a little deeper, it must be altering cam timing or similar

Can't say I've noticed that but I'll have a listen. Maybe it's the clutch disengaging just as you come to a stop and it just needs to idle?

I still find the gear switch counter intuitive at times, especially at 7am when in parking up at work, pushing forward to go back is just nonsense!

But if a random one but has anyone else realised/noticed that the gearbox always defaults back to ‘D’ on restart? I know it’s easy to tell if you leave the car in Dynamic or something when you turn it off because it turns off as ‘S’ and restarts in ‘D’.

What I only noticed the other day is that if you turn the car off in Efficiency, it goes from ‘E’ to ‘D’ when you restart and you have to go through Drive Select and choose Efficiency again to get the ‘full’ Efficiency mode, like you’d have to do if you wanted to get back into Dynamic once restarting.

A little strange as I thought it would be happy staying in full Efficiency mode after turning off and on.

My Golf R Mk7 did the same.

Always cycle the modes when starting the car from cold. However you left it will still be displayed however the actual driving mode will be comfort.

Exactly that. I just presumed it would keep it as the last setting unless it was Dynamic so it wasn’t revving unnecessarily, but obviously not the case.

yep same with the 8v.
always a start up procedure with these cars ;)
start car / cycle to individual mode / turn off stop start / drive :tearsofjoy:

Here is an odd one. 60mph on the way home, someone pulls out of a junction causing me to brake down to about 30mph fairly rapidly. Pulled the main beam lever as I am slowing to 'let them know I am there', nothing, no change, except disabling the auto main beam. Finally get past said car, open road, 60mph, pull the main beam..... repeat experience. I get to the next village, slow down to 30mph, pull the main beam - worked perfectly.

Differences were purely speed and a lit/unlit road, is this another 'safety' feature. Auto Main beam works fine on the unlit road and goes back to normal lighting on lit road - which makes sense.

Yeah, if the auto beams are ‘active’ then a pull on the stalk will only turn them off. If they’re not active then a pull will do a flash.

You can force high beams by pushing away from you twice on the stalk and then a single pull back will disable them like with the auto lights when they’re active.

Ah yeah … that little nasty device !
It annoys me as you have to hold that for a few seconds - which feels like ages lol - so I tend to leave it on just round town but otherwise yes I always turn that off too, I despise it.

My neighbour has OBD11 which thankfully allowed me to stop it from activating each time I turn the car on.

If you spec a Golf R to the same spec as a RS3 Vorsprung it ends up over £50k

Ohh I need to do that. I'll need to Google how.

I love lane assist and ACC.... Having just driven back to Glasgow from London. Even dealt with stopped traffic.

But trying to join the motorway from a service station or any slip road without indicating.... It's great for forcing you to indicate I guess even when there's nobody around.. ... Or country roads are scary as.

So would love to turn it off and only use it with ACC

Not driven a GT4 or RS but did have and came v close to buying a GTS in 2015, i'm glad I didnt in a way, it had quite a drone inside that I think would start to annoy after the initial purchase pleasure wore off, stil, probably the best handing car I have driven, far superior to a 911 or even a GT3

An incredible car but a touch extreme for public roads ;)
That rear wing jeeeeesus & revs to 9,000.
Not my choice of colour though.
The regular GT4 looks flipping incredible imo but again not practical as a daily imo.

Just realised at the weekend that the front interior lights are able to be turned on by putting your hand up to them.

Also anyone know where the camera is for the Main Beam assist? Also these lights are really good in that mode. No one has even flashed at me yet.

Near the rear view mirror. Just below it on the screen.

Had a new windscreen recently and the calibration took ages…
