Maps finally updated...on its own.

Ok guys, I got it figured. You will have to be prepared to "hack" your unit with custom firmware to run on your MIB unit. Well, it's not even that, it's firmware running from an SD-card and installing a bootloader into the unit enabling you to run custom scripts on your unit.

Next to the map update it also enables CarPlay, Google Auto and Video in Motion + unlocks lifetime maps (so you can just download maps and update the database of your current model). So yes, it's true that the MIB is "licensed" normally but this patch will make the unit think it has lifetime maps updates and will hapily accept any map update you feed it year after year :).

Download: https://mibsolution.one/?module=fileman&section=do&page=download&paths[]=/ROOT/1/18/M.I.B_3.1.6_20220120.7z

This will download a tool M.I.B. (More Incredible Bash). Get yourself an SD card and extract the content of the 7zip folder to your FAT32 formatted SD-card.
When done so put the SD-card in SD-slot 1 (important), do not put it in slot 2 but in slot 1!

Note: Start your car or make sure it's on power leads to charge battery while updating. If you stop or turn down the power in the middle of an update you'll brick your unit and render it useless.

This tutorial looks a bit sketchy and I was sceptical as first aswell but took the leap of faith in the amazing community it has behind this project and it's the best leap I've ever took :).

1. Open the REM (Red Engineering Menu) by holding the NAV + MEDIA buttons for aprox 10 seconds.
2. Hit 'update'
3. Hit 'standard'
4. Scroll down and hit 'Start update'.
- This will write a bootloader to your MIB2 unit, it does not interfere with your current Audi firmware. Just let is update as usual. The unit will reboot 3 times during the process.

View attachment 248863

5. When the car is started up again hold the buttons NAV + RADIO to open the GEM (Green Engineering Menu)
6. Hit "M.I.B"
7. Scroll down untill you see the option to create a backup. For the sake of backups please create one, there is a great community behind this tool that will help you get back on track if you systems crashed or is not functionalling well. But then they will need logs and a backup ofcourse.

View attachment 248864

View attachment 248865

Note again. DO NOT, I REPEAT. DO NOT STOP THE UPDATE UNTILL IS SAYS ITS FINISHED. You can scroll down to check up on it's status. Again, NEVER turn off the power during an update. This will brick the device and render it useless, this is not recoverable.

View attachment 248866
View attachment 248867
8. When done you can hit the back button to go back to the 'main menu'.
9. To activate CarPlay, Google Auto and Video in Motion hit the option 'patch_ifs_root_aio'
10. Hit the option 'Flash_patched_image |add FECs | CP/AA coding'
11. Let the update run, again do NOT turn anything off untill its completely done.
12. After the update the system will reboot and CarPlay will be active on your system.

View attachment 248868

13. This update also enables the FEC code for lifetime Map updates. Download the maps in the opening post of this topic and put it on your SD-card.
14. Now go through the normal update procedure through the main menu and your MIB unit will accept the new maps and you can enjoy new maps every year they come out.

Note: The GEM menu will be available untill Audi or you renew/update the firmware on the MIB unit.

Hope I can help you guys out with this, if you have any doubts or difficulties PM me I'm happy to help out.
Thanks for this @henkkeumus, very helpful!

Just a few things to add based on my experience:

- the latest version of MIB tool (I used M.I.B_3.3.3_20220618) doesn't have the patches in the patches folder so these need to be downloaded separately. I added the corresponding patch for my Firmware version to the patches folder manually. I didn't do this the first time and whilst the FEC code installed, it came up as Illegal as there was no patch for the firmware. Fortunately, I took a backup so I could revert the FEC codes and remove the Illegal entry.

- Once the MIB tool is installed it takes you to the 'Device Summary' page, you need to scroll all the way down, hit 'Resume' > hit 'Cancel version compare' and let the MMI reboot. I was expecting a reboot to happen automatically.

- You need to hold NAV and RADIO for around 10 seconds for the Green menu to show. I didn't hold it for long enough and thought the tool failed.

- As you mentioned, the first thing you should do once you get into the Green menu is TAKE A BACKUP!!!

Thank God you informed promptly, i was about to do the tweak today and I would have had a heart attacks! I am even more reluctant now to try it , althoug I have already downloaded and put manually the patches into the SD-Mib-patches folder.. man, not sure its worth to do this only to get a next map upgrade (i have the 21-22 maps, there will be few new things i consider..).
Question: If i do all this and update the new maps, can I switch back to the old FEC and firmware as it was before? I don't like to go and make this seen by Audi at the next service.. hope this MMI thing wont mess up with the overall warranty of the car(?)

From what I understand (happy to be corrected on this as I'm not an expert), if you do the hack then revert it after updating the maps the navigation is likely to stop working because the updated map won't be licenced.

If I were you, I would wait till your warranty is over. It is unlikely Audi will update the firmware on the MMI at a service anyway unless, you report there is something wrong with it.

True, they will never bother to work on the MMI firmware and updates during services. But I'm still chickening out, i have car warranty until end of 2024.. better stay cool for now..

The latest f/w version available is MHI2_ER_AU37X_P5089_MU1326 so I'd recommend you try that, it's what my unit is running to get the satellite overlay working with a valid Audi Connect license ;)

Hi guys, I've been of site for a while.
I have an RS3 2015 PFL. I have 2018 Auatralia maps but would like to update it to the latest I can. I have the silver buttons. From what I read I may be on the MIB 2 High.
Where do I start? This is what I'm on atm. Maybe there is a guide somewhere I may have missed.

Hi guys.

I've been reading all this thread and I would like to do this firmware update + maps update on my Audi.
I looked in that list with firmware versions but I didn't found one to contain exactly the name of mine.
I have MIB2 High with MU Software version 0442 and Current version: MHI2_ER_AUG22_S2148.
Can someone help to tell me which version can I download and use from those available from that list ?
Similar with my version I found in that list the next ones:
MHI2_ER_AUG22_K2140_1 MU0358
MHI2_ER_AUG22_K2161 MU1421
MHI2_ER_AUG22_P3241 MU0678

Thank you very much.

It looks like your firmware is old and will need updating. I am not sure on this procedure but you should be able to get the firmware from where you got the MIB tool

Thank you for your reply @alpesh26.
I was thinking that someone can help me to do it myself the update for firmware and maps. The car is out of guarantee and the dealer want to take a lot of money from us for a simple update, that's why I am looking to do it myself.

@henkkeumus please can you guide me a bit in order to realize this updated (firmware & maps) ? I don't know which version from your list of MU software it's dedicated for my navigation. Which one I need to download it ?
Thanks & Kind regards

Thanks anyway,
I will be still looking for solution
Hello Chelios,

Did you find a solution for udpating your MIB1?
I've got exactly the same version as you (Audi S3 8v 2015):
MHIG_EU_AU_S1544
MU 0397

I check on the internet for few days t find a way to update my MIB1 GPS without success :frown new:.
So please let me know if you did it successfully

Thanks in advance.

Hi, exactly what I need. I have 2 question:
1) The link does not work anymore, could you name the software so I can download somewhere else
2) The greenscreen... Actually on my A5 sportback 2017 is not enabled, will it be enabled from the update (step 4?

thanks for your answers already

Hey mate,

With VC Dash you have a MIH2 (MIB2 High) unit yes.

1) License for my navigation updates is valid until March of this year, does that mean that I can update without hack? Since general procedure from Audi involves also updating map vis SD card...
Yes, if you have an Audi license active you can just update online.. You MIH2 unit will have a connection to the Audi servers. However, downloading 25GB over the 2G in your car can take a long time so it's quicker to do with the SD-card indeed. I've read that the Audi servers were sh*t the last couple of months so I would rather just go for the SD-card option indeed.

Just download the maps, put them on your FAT32 SD-card and go into the REM menu (hold NAV + MEDIA for 10sec) then choose update > SD-card slot 1 > and let the system find the update and start it.

NOTE: NEVER SHUT YOUR ENGINE OFF DURING THE UPDATE AND MAKE SURE START/STOP IS DISABLED. WHEN YOU LOSE POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN UPDATE YOU CAN POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR SYSTEM.

2) Concerning software version of the MMI, I see on your photo that is version 1326, and my is only 0875. How do I update software on MMI? Is that different than updating map and navigation?

This is the version of the DB of the navigation, do you have the latest firmware on your system? You can check that by going into the REM menu (hold NAV + MEDIA button for 10sec) then a red menu appears and choose the 'Version information'. Post it to me in DM and I can see if you are on the latest firmware.

If you need to update this, it's very simple. I can help you out with that, just send me a PM and I will share the firmware with you (official firmware) to update your MIH2 unit.
Hi, I'm trying to send you a PM but Idk how, I got an A3 MHI2_ER_AU37x_P3620 MU0875 I have problems with the Audi connect, and I want to know if updating the firmware can I solve this problem.
Thanks for your help.

Hello All, do you know the possible reason why in the MMI Google Maps I cannot see the traffic data? (I have valid MMI and I can also see all other info like weather, POIs ect..). But when I switch (in Map settings) to Traffic view , i do not see traffic. (I have also enabled traffic and all in the MMI/Map/Navigation settings. I am 'Online' and everything else works). Could it be an Audi server issue?

Hi everyone, just read this post as I am looking to update my Audi Q7 maps.

Current version: MHI2Q_ER_AUG22_P5092
MU: 1329

The links for the MIB software don’t appear to be working anymore so I cannot currently check if a solution exists for my version

Any help greatly appreciated, there are a few of you who have clearly grasped this and updated to the latest maps, incredible really when you consider the Audi charges!

Indeed they are as I've already updated mine on my FL S3 ;)

I have a few other questions as well, apologies if I am missing something really obvious in the thread.
Following the MIB patch and map update:
1-Do the Audi connect services and live traffic still work?
2-I have the software version 1329 with the satellite maps post google. Will the satellite update still behave as expected?

It almost seems to good to be true if the maps and live traffic/connect functionality behave exactly the same as a £500 Audi upgrade

Good evening everyone, I write from Italy, I am a happy owner of an Audi A3 09/2016 Sline Virtual Cockpit, I would like to know if anyone can tell me if my system can be updated:
MHI2_ER_AU37x_P3242;
software MU:0679,
manual:8V2012788QA,
Navigation database version: V03959801PR 0166 ECE 2018,
thank you anyone who can give me some news...

@Totox88 the answer is yes as you have a Harman unit. Your current version is what mine started with which I had updated to the latest so I could still have satellite overlay with active Audi Connect licence. I then used a local retrofitter as I wasn't comfortable tweaking my own unit just incase I bricked it so up to you if you try it yourself but there's plenty of info if you know where to look.

Hi Harvey, thanks for your reply... I would also like to perform the update that you did, is it something difficult? Or could I do it too? Can I also run the local retrofitter?

I used a company known as a retrofitter in the UK as they specialise in aftermarket work on VAG vehicles, they did the work on my MMI. You can do it yourself but not recommended if your not confident, try searching locally in your area for a specialist who can assist you.

Following this forum for a while and decided finally patch the Audi Q5 2017 to get the latest maps.

Current Firmware: MHI2Q_ER_AUG22_P5092vMU Software:1329.

I followed the posts and installed MIB 3.41.1 which enabled the green menu. Then downloaded the patches folder and copied the right patch "MHI2Q_ER_AUG22_P5092_MU1329_PATCH" and did the AIO patch. The patch was successful and I have the FEC codes loaded. Not exactly followed the instruction as I didn't have the patch in the patches folder during the MIB installation.

Then I download the maps.P313_N60S5MIBH3_ROW.7z to another SD CARD. The SD CARD had only contents at the root. i.e metainfo2.txt, Mib1 and Mib2. This was all done using a windows laptop. SD card was formatted to ExFAT.

I keep getting this message every time I update the maps " No valid update data found on the medium" even though I have the FEC codes.

Not sure what I am doing wrong there. Any help is appreciated.

Are you trying to update via the MMi - red menu or Audi connect - map update
and try formatting in fat32 or NTFS for usb stick

I am based in Australia, I was missing FEC code for ROW map. All good now.

Does anyone know how to update maps on a MIB1high? I have a Audi A3 8v limo 2014 and would like to update to new maps. Thanks in advance!

So hooked up to the trickle charger, prepared my SD cards and completed the MIB installation and I am not ready to update to the new maps but will do this tomorrow as I have ran out of time.

All worked perfectly as expected, amazing tool. Thanks to all on this thread for pointing me to the correct resources!
