8Y RS3 Gremlins thread.

New one for me tonight was an entirely black screen on the mmi with just the outlined frame showing.

It’s the ‘Autumn’ screen when everything is black as the nights draw in……

I can't even log on to the app!
I'm guessing it's a database sync issue. But it shows how woefully bad the dev team on the app are when they can't even handle an account creation. I use to do C++ in Investment Banking and you'd lose your job pretty quickly if you coded to this level.

Most probably the DB is up the spout again.

The App is total c*ap, we were out for the day and the App (Stolen/Location bit) showed the car parked safely at home

yeah I had 3691 on my previous RS3 and I remember having it blackscreen once.

I have 3801 now and don't have that specific problem anymore (have a few others).

Could have been a faulty MMI though and not software related.

Any car with 36XX and above is setup for OTA updates but I'm guessing Audi UK have zero plans to activate that in the UK yet.

Has it done it more than once? Might have just locked up? See if dealer can log a fault and if 3801 software is offered?

Did it again today. Think it’s to do with CarPlay.

Oh yeah, I forgot if you’re running CarPlay and something disrupts the Wi-Fi for the wireless CarPlay it will momentarily black out like that whilst it’s either switching to cable or fully disconnecting for you to then try and reconnect it. It’s normally where there is a very strong other network on the exact same band that cuts the signal out for long enough for it to disconnect.

Today my wireless charging notification popped up twice whilst I was driving which was odd as the phone hadn’t moved and was no where near 100% charged.

Made sure it was positioned perfectly as well.

Anyone else had the wireless charging pad go a bit intermittent?

Does that mean the only way to update it is to take it to a dealer?

At this point in time yep dealer only

Whether Audi UK turn on OTA updates in the future who knows!

Are you sure about that regarding OTA updates?

I'm sure mine said something about 'Latest sat nav map installed or updated' last week

Sat Nav is on OTA update, MMI / any module update are still needing a dealer / Odis visit.

I was talking to a retrofitter friend and he told me the latest software updates for various modules takes……10 hrs.

Yeah thats what I was told too map OTA is one thing and thats live now but MMI (only) updates are turned on since 36XX software branches but its down to each regional Audi country whether they turn them on or not, but with Germany not having turned them on yet I doubt the UK will.

Was also told that if you update from a 34XX to 36XX MMI software you will get Wireless Carplay/Android Auto but if you came from a 32XX software branch to 36XX you won't get it automatically enabled. Not sure why that is?

Can we expect newly built cars to be on the latest version out of the factory? Or are the cars delivered to the dealers and they are the one updating the MMI & modules?

Here's a new one: Noticed some MMI light "bleed" on my display. By bleed I am referring to classic LED light bleeding/blooming where the area around the pixel is lit white, soft and fuzzy. This was definitely a thing when LED's were coming out years ago. There is one spot to the right of my fuel level where it gets pretty obvious. I'm not sure it's worth doing anything about but it's a little annoying given the high price of the car. If I had purchased a TV and noticed that area like that, I would return it for another one. Not as easy with a 70k car.

Was it quite cold at the time? I've found that they do that occasionally when relatively cold, but if it wasn't then I'm not sure I'm afraid. I'm sure that expensive TV's would do similar if they were also turned on at 0-5°C like the VC is, but most people's houses don't get that cold on a regular basis to test it. :tearsofjoy:

No, it's not cold. It definitely looks like a slight defect in the LED screen around the fuel line. The idea of asking for a new screen over such a small thing is exhausting. Will probably have to fight my OCD on this one.

Fair enough. That’s disappointing, but worth asking the question I’d say. Can’t imagine there would be a fight if you can demonstrate an issue.

If your car was built recently and is MY23 or nearly MY23 it will be shipping with 3801 like mine. Still buggy though and no dealers rarely flash anything unless they have been instructed to by Audi.

On my screen the left hand side is a bit looser than the right side so if you tap on the left you feel the screen move a bit and tap on the right its solid.
Tapped a few other A3 8Ys and they all do the same thing though.
Also and Im sure you've done this, but some of the graphics on the screen have a fade pattern that might be mis associated for light bleed.
Go into settings and then screen maintenance and cleaning I think that keeps the panel lit whilst you clean it so you can look at it with just a black lit screen?

Thanks. I'll check it out. The bleed is right at the end of the fuel gauge (right side). It's funny but when I change view and make the fuel gauge magnified, the bleed is there as well and its even worse. But leaves the area where the original fuel gauge was.

Changed lanes on the M1 on Sunday and got a Lane Assist Malfunction Error followed by a Speed Sign Recognition Error. The speed limit display disappeared from my Heads Up display but it was still on the dash. Pulled into Rugby Services when I joined the M6, turned engine off/on and everything was back to normal. Another software glitch I suspect. As an aside, Rugby Services is a very nice service area!

When you say MY23 when is that for as mine got delivered to dealers last week and registered today on a 72 plate

Oh you meant the virtual cockpit display? I thought you meant the MMI screen my bad.

I’ve seen another car with light bleed on that display before and I now know exactly what you mean!

You’re a braver man than me if you let them take your entire dash apart to change that screen!! But yes I remember seeing a S3 with the same problem looked like a white sort of fuzzy area on the car I saw - the owner just left it as he had no faith the car would be put back together properly again!

What are the differences between Model year 22 and 23? Since mine just finished building, that's cool that I get a 23 I guess?

Don't know of any changes to be honest. The only difference I found was that newer cars seem to have the wireless charging pad that was previously removed due to chip shortages, allegedly.

I had it in my spec in Poland, got a fully custom order as we don't have things like you guys do. (Launch Edition/Carbon/Vorsprung)

That's good then, I think it's much better being able to spec individual options.

Yes and no, it probably pushed back my build date a fair amount of time due to the stuff I threw in there :D

A lot of people here don't even have build dates so if you get one then you're ahead of most in the UK anyway.

Got my car today

Lane assist on country roads is scary as. I had 15 miles back from the detailers, wrestling with the car. And as I hadn't driven it before had no idea how to turn it off. I was taught to see as far round a corner as possible and never cut the corner. Guess what lane assist does!

The only other issue is that MyAudi tells me my house isn't a safe place to park!

Yeah, having to hold down the lane assist button for 5 seconds or whatever each time you start the car is annoying.

Hopefully my friend will let me borrow his VCDS cable to code it out next month…

For me the lane assist is the worst thing about my RS3 by far! It's tried to make me crash into parked cars and traffic cones, and gets all kinda of confused when driving down a road with a shadow being case from the central reservation barriers! How anyone can consider this a safety feature os behond me!

Almost killed me on several occasions. Start up procedure is 5 sec on the stalk to turnoff lane assist and five of the drive select button to get to dynamic.

It also doesnt like cyclists, just as you move over a little to pass them it steers you back towards them :tearsofjoy:

Best mod ever is to code it to 'Remember last setting' in VCDS
