Guys, just tried and succesfully managed to deactivate the soundaktuator on my 8Y via obdeleven.

I just hate how strong is the artificial sound when using Dynamic/Performance mode.

If anyone is interested, the coding is:

- [A9] (Structure Borne Sound);
- 10 - Adaption
- choose "Volume of structure borne noise actuator"
- Set value between 0 (off) and 100 (default)
- run the coding

I put down 0 and obdeleven arbitrarly registered 0,8%, but the effect is the same.

Now I officially need an aftermarket exhaust

Hmmm

I noticed OBD11 saying it had A9 when I was in SFD for something else, it came brought up A9 on a scan, which was weird because it has never seen an A9 module before.

Stranger still is VCDS and VCP do not show an A9 module.

Can you confirm if this has reduced Engine noise, Exhaust noise or both?

So far my testing has shown only Engine noise is enhanced via the mode settings.

To me it is all fake noise; doesn’t matter if it is actual noise sent into the front or amplified it wasn’t on the 8V and I don’t like it.

Indeed it’s there in VCP, but I had to type in A9 on a search of the modules.

Edit…..

It’s here in VCDS too but you have to search for it in direct entry, it’s not automatically listed

Until someone does a proper under load video comparison with the fake noise generator on and off in all modes I have to go with what I've heard when my car has been driven away from me. These standstill videos prove nothing.

Yes it's quieter than a pre opf 8V, but it was never going to be louder, it's a different world we live in.

To the OP, still interested in your thoughts on my question.

And here’s an output test of it using VCDS

Just been out in it with the soundakator turned off.
It does indeed make the cabin quieter, I’m not sure if I’ll keep it off .

One bonus, I can here the actual rear exhaust noise more now.

Had some tests today and I can confirm that the coding works properly and this setting is only related to engine sound, not exhaust.

Put the sound down to 0% with everything stock is not an option because the cabin is really well insulated and the exhaust..well, you know..

So I decided to recode the value up to 50% and I think it should be a right compromise for now.

I have also come to the same conclusion, leave it as is, using the MMI. Acid test was with the boss, on a 400miles ride on Motorway and mainly on A roads. No complaints from the passenger seat.

Probably wise, it seems the cabin goes from ‘loud’ to nothing.

What did it start off from factory as - 100%?

Is there any fake noise in non RS modes?

Just trying to understand how it would sound when off - just like it auto mode say?

Prolly subdued in those modes.

I think mine sounds best in auto s. Wasn’t sure if it’s still enhanced then, but I seem to get the most of the 5 cyl noise in that mode

I’m 50% less interior and 100% more exterior noise so it’s better now.

After turning off the artificial sound I can guarantee that it’s subtle also in comfort mode ‘cause I clearly heard the difference.

I appear to have a very slight vibration coming from behind the dash when this is on. Does anyone know where it lives?

I would book it in but I'm very reluctant to have my car butchered at Audi again. When work was undertaken on my A5 so much trim was damaged when they used screwdrivers to lever panels out. It all eventually got replaced but it was hugely annoying.

Turn it down or off completely.

OK looked above and searched A9. It was set at 80% - now adjusted to 50% (defaulted to 49.8!) I will see how that goes.

Now Just need to see if I can discover how to set stop start & lane departure to last button position.

I did it with OBD11, I couldn't tell you the module or anything but it was fairly easy if I remember correctly. :)

I'm running the other exhaust mod...

...I took the parcel shelf out for the dog and haven't put it back :)

Same as Golf 8r, just set it to 'remember last setting'

This should be how the car was set up from factory, as it was in my TTRS. I can see the benefit of the system when you are on an open WIDE road or dual carriageway, but on small rural roads having the car try to steer me into the path of a fast approaching tipper isn't fun, and certainly isn't SAFE!
