Alright Guys,

I'm on software version 3691 for reference.

Was wondering if anyone with an RS3 had any of the following and/or knew of any fixes for them?

- Every time car is started it asks if I would like to discard or apply settings from online somewhere (have contacted Audi Digital UK about it).
- There is some faint crackling/popping sometimes whilst playing music via Apple Carplay.
- (Only done this once) Was driving along and Lane Assist + Emergency SOS systems both deactivated all by themselves.
- Apple Carplay has randomly decided to just stop working twice - music would switch over to Audi MMI bluetooth and then if you went back onto Carplay via the menu it started up again immediately.

Guessing these are all software faults of some sort - anyone had them or know if there's an update from 3691?

Thanks!

3611 here and none of those issues.

Yeah I had 3611 in my previous S3 and whilst it had the odd crackle and pop whilst playing music over Apple Carplay and Carplay disconnected randomly once or twice - it didn't do the other two things whilst I had it.

Maybe 3691 was a backward step!

The apply settings one is random. For me sometimes it doesn’t happen for weeks, then all of a sudden, as it just has starts asking again. This isn’t just specific to RS3’s either.

You are being a bit sensitive to minor bugs here in my opinion.

1. Annoying but hardly a big deal. Lots of cars do this. If your S3 didn't do it then I would suggest a reset of the entire MMI system.
2 & 4. This is your phone in my opinion. If it is wired CarPlay then it is the wire. If it is wireless then it is just your phone. The fact it happened on the S3 supports this.
Reset your phone to factory settings (not worth doing probably) and see if that fixes it.
3. Try something like OBDEleven and scan for errors; but either you accidentally hit the little stalk to turn it off or it just had a bug out and an OBD scan will show it.

It’s not a big deal but if you’ve paid money for a car and waited for it, they could at least QC their software so that newer software doesn’t have the bugs that a previous version didn’t have. Especially with the faff to get a retailer to actually update the software or even admit there’s an update.

When your car arrives and after you’ve paid your money out for it - the fact that they’ve stripped loads of parts out of it and then can’t even get the software right (after nearly 18 months of trying) will bug you.

On the small pops here and there it’s wireless and it’s in the software implementation of how they setup Wireless CarPlay - some manufacturers get it right (BMW) and others including Audi seem to get it wrong - no idea why!

To hit the stalk I’d have accidentally have to held it in for 4 seconds and I don’t even know if I can turn the SOS feature off at all. So I’m reasonably sure I haven’t accidentally done anything. With that being said I’ve ordered one of those dongles so thanks for the heads up!

Do appreciate the input though & thanks for coming back to me.

OBD11 is crap for error finding.

It missed several errors when I tried it vs VCDS.

I'm on 3611 and have not had issues, I do get the odd crackle through the speakers but have put this down to streaming as it doesn't do it on cable.

^ Some of these issues have been listed on the VWROC Golf Mk8R web site (plus thousands of others, Golf 8 seems very 'buggy' ) the only thing I have had is the start up screen saying 'Loading your settings' and stuck on that for about 10 minutes.

Plus my 'mind of it's own' Memory seat which sometimes adjusts position with opening (with the correct key), sometimes doesnt, sometimes starts to adjust and stops, sometimes adjusts with a short push of the button and sometimes the button needs holding untill it's in it's final position

Oh so you really need VCDS and ODB11 then to do it all as you can't unlock the SFD protection with VCDS I've read?

Yup.

Unlock with OBD11 (once you’ve set up the SFD security part of the App)

Then plug in with VCDS.

Don’t let them give you 3691 is all I’ll say then lol.

I had 3611 in the S3 and it seemed to work a lot better than this 3691 version.

Never knew there was a 3620 either.

No idea why Audi UK won’t turn on OTA updates there’s a massive section about it in the user manual.

Again, reading through the VWROC forum 'Gremlins' 141 pages suggests that some had perfectly acceptable software until and OTA update was carried out.

Golfs have had, or are still having a software nightmare to be honest, from cars that wont overtake with adaptive cruise (only under take, they think they are LH drive) to reading a 70 mph sign, somehow mistaking it for kph, converting it to 43mph and then slamming the brakes on for you.....not good at all, Volkswizard did a video of the adaptive cruise set speed swapping from 70-43-70-43.

That doesn’t sound too ideal at all will go have a read.

I’m wondering if Audi have changed the hardware for the MMI system as it’s strange that there are a few software updates and some can’t update to others.

I know they changed the Golf infotainment hardware recently so maybe they’ve done the same thing in the Audi.

Going to check my hardware version and see what other people have on their screens although I guess all cars on 36XX are probably on the newest MMI hardware if there were changes.

Noticed that my car has an A at the end of my hardware version - wonder if this is a revised unit at all?

From a user on 3620

And here is a screenshot from mine;

Anyone else got any different hardware versions out there and know what they mean ?

Parts database lists A/B/C/D/E/K/L/N

Usually means they changed supplier or made a revision to the unit itself, which given all the reports of problematic MMi in the new A3 it’s easy to see why so many.

Oh wow so there’s loads of different variants?

Might explain why some cars can go to some software versions and others can go to others.

Or they’re all basically the same and the retailers just can’t be bothered to do software updates on cars . . .

Might have to do with the chip shortage so they need multiple suppliers...

JFI the SOS 'pop' was discussed in length on the Golf 8R forum if you can wade through the 140+ pages, I seem to remember people saying it does it in exactly the same place on route day after day and is to do with the car losing signal to (either the VW or phone signal) server.

I guess todays cars are a little over complex like Windows on your home pc with update after update to fix stuff

Mine did it again today heading for Liverpool, 20 miles into the journey the MMI goes blank and a 'Knight Rider' strip going back and forth across the screen with 'Loading your settings' luckily I had already set the Navigation and the directions remained both on the virtual cockpit and HUD

May be worthwhile to state the affected version. Mine is 3620, so far have not noticed any odd behaviour.

I had 3620 in my S3 Vorsprung and it was relatively solid apart from some gentle popping on wireless car play.

3691 in this RS3 is pretty buggy !!! Don’t upgrade if they give you the choice !!
