Rear Parking Sensors

I've had a few occasions of a long beep and then the sensors stop working before coming to life again the next day, but yesterday I got the long beep and still nothing. Tried cleaning the sensors but still nothing, so I suspect maybe one has failed (and hopefully not the module) which hopefully my scan tool will reveal which one.

In the meantime, does anyone know if all the sensors are the same or are they specific to each location across the rear bumper?

All rear sensors will be the same so to double the exact part number required remove your rear bumper and pop a sensor out. If you know someone with VCDS they will be able to scan the codes and pinpoint the exact sensor at fault. My VCDS saved me a few times chasing PDC sensor faults on my old Touareg which had 6 front and 6 rear sensors eek.

Thanks, I shouldn't have been so lazy and just looked it up and yep it's confirmed as being part number 1S0919275 for all four. So it's a bumper off job? I'll need to look that up. I'm going to try the WD40 hack just in case as it's been doing the long beep again, so seems a little sporadic to be a complete failure perhaps?

I was looking up on how to change a sensor on YouTube and almost nothing there that I could find, but there were several on spraying WD40 into the sensors on various cars. Apparently, water gets into the sensor (probably from me using a pressure hose) and the WD40 disperses the water and things and things return to normal. I was like 1% optimistic, but it actually worked! haha ****** delighted at another easy and cheap fix.

I think I've still got PTSD from having a Jaguar and I really should have more faith with this S4.

haha - SCPTSD (Sh1t car post traumatic stress disorder) is no joke... i still have nightmares about a brief dalliance i had with a Hybrid Lexus!!

If you press the button to turn the sensors on, you can hear the sensors clicking if you get your ear close enough. If it’s clicking it’s working, the one that’s playing up won’t be making any noise

The WD40 hack lasts about 5 minutes, but if it works then great. I had a similar issue with my wife's i3, but it was compounded as it also has park distance control (PDC) sensors and PMA sensors on the wings, as it can park itself!

Anyway VCDS or ISTA (if it's a BMW) will pinpoint the specific sensor. In gear with the ignition on, you should be able to feel a pulse on all operable sensors. What's a better hack is to unplug the sensor and spray electrical contact cleaner and reconnect. It might buy you some time.

There are some reputable sellers on EBay, so if you know the paint colour code then that's what I would do, rather than buying new and repainting.

I don't think I have a button, it's software controlled and came up as not being available when it was playing up.

So far it's still holding out and I've even jet washed the car since. But just in case, I've got an eBay listing for a replacement Valeo sensor in my car's colour bookmarked. I don't really fancy removing the bumper though.

Actually, come to think of it I need the bumper resprayed due to a terrible paint match done by the previous owner. If the sensor(s) go again then I'll get the bodyshop to fit it as they'll be removing the bumper anyway. Result! lol

Looks like you were right. They've stopped working again and I've sprayed and I've sprayed to no avail. Meh, I'll just wait until the bumper gets done or someone inevitably hits me what with the shocking driving standards of today lol

That's the frustrating part. Coming into spring with drier weather helps. But if you have one on order then that's the way forward.

You can test the sensors manually if you put your finger on each sensor in turn you will feel a slight pulse/vibration on the good sensors and none on the bad one.
