What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

Awesome. I would love to compare the KW to my AP. See how similar they are or aren't, the heresay seems to be mixed messages.

Can we see your lows ?
That's the best part about coil overs, that ability to set the car ride height to a personalised setting, there's no pre-set restraint as with fixed units.
I was always very skeptical about them and i think other user's reports of poor quality ride and questionable build quality kinda cemented an image of " don't go there" with coilovers.
Happily i can say that was a misconception and there is a very strong argument for them over fixed height units.

I do however feel it's a "you get what you pay for" situation, £300 set , don't expect to much, thats only £75 a corner, yes it will work but will it be as good as expected and last for more than 2 years, maybe not.
My KW's were not cheap but then on the scale of things not that expensive £1200 , that's £300 a corner, but build quality and performance etc , lifespan as well will easily make that a very worthwhile investment .

Anyway, just my input chaps, some pics later for all you of a future reference inclination.

I've run coilovers of many different qualities and prices on different vehicles.

What you are saying is very true, just have to bear in mind it's not a fixed rule and it's not linear.

£300-600 coilovers are usualy terrible, £800-1200 coilovers are usually a lot lot better than them.

£1600-2000+ coilovers (Bilstien B16 Pss9 for example, had them on my b6 s4) are only marginally better.
But if you spend that you convince yourself it was worth it, just human nature.

Also some brands blur the lines. Sometimes expensive coilovers get re branded as cheaper ones.

Some people tell me that the AP's on mine are 100% identical to KW Varient 2, which are much more expensive. That's why I would like to feel the difference, mine feel great and soak up the bumps fine, but it would be good to know if it's rumour or truth.

Looking forward to seeing how low you've gone, mines on its ar*e lol, and my front splitter does worry me, when i drive into parking bays with curbs at the end I'm cautious and usually find I've left the back end sticking our 1-2 feet.

Just pulled the trigger on a full set of bilstein B8s for my bus. £540 wasn't bad imo for good quality aftermarket replacement parts. Hopefully get the every fitted next saturday and off for the MOT

Gave the old bus it quick splash and then it started raining..lol

not the best pics as it was getting dark, but sits very nicely for me know.
Thinking about doing the fading trim in a graphite grey colour to match the alloys.

Very nice Rob, some of the RS4s had satin or matt graphite trims and roof rails, looks good

Will be sticking with the eibachs Rob. Thinking of popping in the rear springs too with the new seats might sit alright then
Those new spring seats should help a bit, are you changing the top mounts too.

I hope so, the new ones are surprisingly chuncky especially vompared to the persished ones in there. I will be yes and the rear dust boots/bump stops. Speaking of which, will stock bump stops be okay with the bilsteins? I notice bilstein do their own

If i recall Alex, i used the bumpstops etc from the OE s-line dampers.

I used standard bump stops but cut a section off as I thought I was riding

Gorgeous. What are the wheels ?

I think mine needs lifting 10mm or so, this looks spot on.

They look a bit like bigger OEM DTM wheels don't they.
My Cades are OK but a bit budget compared to the rest of the build.

Forgive me if my car starts looking more like yours next year .
At least mines not an avant lol.
They do indeed, I really like the ronals fitted to the DTM and Special edition, well they were on my old bus to start with.
That was my reason for going with the OZ's , they look very similar and in a bigger diameter/wider rim and offset format and suit the B7 platform really well.

Avants are the best to be honest, you have all the advantages of the saloon platform but with a bigger load area, and they just look better aswell, well that's what i think. :yahoo:
DTM's have always been great though.

I've been having a go with paint shopping my door brightwork another colour, the satin silver is starting to get a bit marked, as they do, but don't want to go black.
I think graphite for the roof rails and door surrounds will be a nice mix to go with the alloys.
I think there are too many colours going on and the brighter trims need toning down a bit.

If anyone is a dab hand with photoshop or similar, can you re-touch the silver roof rails and door surround trims in graphite to match the alloys, I am useless at it to be honest.
Not the mirror covers though.

cheers

My first car was a B5 A4 2.8Q (P Reg) (passed my test in my mid 20s)
And loving that car so much, I just always went for saloons from then on. Except the S3's of course.

Do appreciate an avant but we all have our preference. .

Bought myself a set of roof rails from a scrap yard
So I could get them powder coated black which meant I didn’t have to remove the existing ones until I’d picked up from the painters
Didn’t want to be waiting about with holes in the roof
The silver ones will be listed soon

I think it needs to be a satin finish to match the mirror covers.

It's not something I'd have the patients to do these days, a pro job indeed.
I could get the roof rails powder coated the same colour as my wheels from the guys that did the wheels, that would work out nice, but not sure id get such a good match with off the shelf wraps.

I imagine the door trims are a real paint to wrap properly.
Way back (2012) had my B6 done by a friend who was a sign writer. The chrome trims looked tarnished all over the car.

She did the grill surrounds, window surrounds, and chrome boot trim on the bumper. All gloss back. To me it was just chrome delete, I wasn't thinking of a colour at all.

I asked her to match the gloss black pillar trims as well as possible

It took her about 3-4 hours, but she is experienced.
(Current business FYI is https://g.co/kgs/A2u4r2) although it was her dad's business under a different name back then.

Struggling to find the pics I took at the time but there are a few of it on Instagram...

After....

Found out why my turbo noise has increased…..

Might see if it’s weld’able. If not source a second hand dpf and gut it. Can’t seem to find a delete kit on the web

There is allways something to put the spanner in the works.

That said , when i ordered my KW's i was told 12 weeks min delivery from Germany, they turned up within 3 weeks.

Finally got around to ordering up some of the non factory fitted engine bay covers.
The nearside cover above the abs pump etc and the small fill cover between the air box and bulkhead in front of the ecu box, with the half dozen fixings , audi do like there fixings..lol

should make it look a bit more tidy.

There is, was hoping to get the lot done this month but there we are. Decided to order and new undertray instead that a stray branch murdered last year and a pair of Febi oem style engine mounts. Decided that the 034 ones aren't for me, i value cabin quality and comfort more than what they offer in performance, most of which i will probably never actually benefit from. A little annoying considering the expense but there we are.

To be honest Alex, with the mods you've done thus far I'm sure it is an excellent car and it does just what you want.
It is very easy to get drawn in and buy shed loads of performance bits that are themselves great but for 99.9 % of us will have very little effect on our usage and in many cases make the car worse than we would really like for most of the time.
I'm always temped to buy bits i really don't need and i know they wont make the slightest difference.lol
