Hi All,
So there are a bunch of companies that offer a Clutch Bleed Block with the fluid damper "delete" option, in some kind of aluminium instead of the OEM plastic item, for the 8V S3 with a manual gearbox.

The Creation Motorsport one seems to be significantly cheaper than the others. Even the HEL Performance one!

Has anybody had any experience with the Creation item, or, failing that, the HEL version? The slow clutch engagement on my 8V manual box is driving me crazy and ruining what is otherwise a good car on spirited drives and the occasional (safe and appropriate) overtake.

Thanks in advance!

Can you describe your clutch engagement?
I hate the gear change from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd in my manual s3, it’s as if I have to feather the clutch to get a smooth gear change otherwise it jerks as if my foot slipped off the clutch pedal or something

Sure!
It's "f**king sh1*e"!
Okay, so thats probably not very helpful a description but it really is. All of the weak points around these cars are centred around the clutch and associated system IMO...

A better description of the clutch engagement would be "very light, non-descript, lacking feel and feedback, and slow to engage when you lift your foot up and off the pedal quickly".
As for the physical operation of the clutch itself, it works just fine... If you're an average monkey in the street that has a driver's licence, yet doesn't "REALLY" know how to drive a car or have any interest in cars beyond it getting them from a-to-b, with the least amount of fatigue on their left leg.

Finding the bite-point is less with the feel of your left food, and more with your ears for the engine note and your eyes on the road and rev counter. All previous manual cars I've had, I've genuinely been able to set off with my eyes closed, using only the feel on my left foot, but in my 8V (and my previous 8V) the standard clutch system is just guesswork! It's hugely over-assisted and really let's an otherwise very capable car down. I'm looking for a new clutch setup to give me some of that weight and feel back.

The Creation Bleed Block was more to remove the slow engagement caused by the fluid through the damper (there is no damper in the Creation/HEL/034 variants). Most people just drill/hack out the damper from the original plastic joint but it's plastic and pretty fragile and flexes an awful lot during use. Creation/HEL/034 are alloy blocks, so don't flex anywhere near as much.
Hopefully that's a better description than "f**king sh1*e"

I have the same hatred towards mine believe me. I have removed the little damper and I have also fitted a clutch stop to eliminate some of the excessive pedal movement but it’s still awful. My s3 8p clutch was perfect: to be honest, this is the only car I’ve ever had this issue with. I can’t believe more people with manual s3 don’t complain about this!

The clutch stop is a new one on me. I'm familiar with the function but I haven't actually come across one. Do you have a link to the one you bought, perchance?

This is the only make/model car that I've ever had this complaint with too. Especially with a semi-performance vehicle. Okay, the S3 isn't a Halo model but it's "a performance daily driver" and something that really should have more "Driver interaction" than it has... But then again, even the crappiest driver likes to think they're Lewis Hamilton and I suppose car manufacturers up-sell to these models to the everyday guy that can afford them and wants something quick

Here you go

Very kind of you! Thank you!
I’m wondering if we have what each other want in a clutch…. Mine is pretty much instant engagement/disengagement and I want to smooth it out a bit. When I let the pedal out, it disengages too fast and jerks. I have to feather clutch to get a smooth gear change. Most of the time I drive with my foot sitting on the clutch a little bit. I thought it might be the flywheel not matching the engine revs right so I got a brand new clutch and flywheel fitted. Still the same.

The progression is, I suppose, fairly okay, when I'm sat watching how far up the initial bite point is, to the fully engaged point. What's totally absent is any degree of "feel". I don't know if what my left foot is telling me, is that the sprung pressure plate/fingers have a fairly flat profile, and thus the range of engagement is short, or just that the plate/fingers offer less resistance than I like (and thus the lower clamping force that everyone seems to whinge about regarding destroying clutches). Maybe it's a combination of both but I definitely want a heavier weight and more feel to the clutch, as it almost feels like a "fly by wire" affair ☹️
