Hi guys, so after having a B8 A4 Avant a few years ago, I've had an A6 bitdi for the last 3 and half years and love it but it's getting on a bit and miles almost over 100k so I'm looking around.
Really want an S6 but pricey and rare so looking at 2017 onwards S4 Avant.

Just looking for peoples opinions on this car. What's the mpg like? What's the exhaust sound like?

I want to get away from diesel and into something a little newer.
Love the mood lighting and massage seats options on the S4 too.

Thanks
Paul

Suspect S6's are rare because new the BiTDI wasn't far off performance wise (C7 at least) and if you didn't want a diesel the S4 was cheaper!

S4 is a great car, but if you're worried about mpg it's probably not the one for you! I get mid-high teens in traffic and low-mid 20s in normal driving. 30+ mpg is possible if you're sitting on the motorway (I even saw 40 once - that was an event). Other than the obvious, the main problem is the tank is too small and you have to fill up every 250 ish miles!

Exhaust makes a nice noise in sport. It's no RS6, but entertaining enough. Gearbox is lethargic (responds by postcard) in D but sport mode improves things a lot. Not quite DSG but fine most of the time.

I had a diesel C7 A6 previously and the S4 is obviously far quicker and more entertaining, the tech is better, and it actually fits in UK parking spaces. Downsides are the interior isn't quite as luxurious (build/materials wise), and the boot is smaller.

I'm not particularly bothered about the mpg as I only get 30 in my bitdi now. More interested in the extra performance, stage 1 possiblity and the sound more than anything

I haven't driven a BiTDI but compared to an A6 TDI 272, a petrol S4 feels much quicker and sounds far better (in sport mode of course). The 272 isn't slow, but feels it after driving the S4 because it's so quiet and undramatic.

Stage 1 APR tune makes a huge difference to performance and negligible impact on economy- in fact just regular cruising sees a slight increase in economy for me! Mixed driving returns anywhere from 30 mpg to 36 and an economical run down the motorway 36-41mpg ! Luckily my run home from work each day gives the latter figure!
Stock Exhaust is disappointing really , nice on startup and okay in dynamic but it’s not exactly loud or aggressive sounding! I could definitely do with something better but I’ve not had the chance to hear any other systems firsthand ! Coming from Subaru land with full turbo back Milltek system it’s safe to say I miss the noise (and my neighbours don’t!!!)

I currently have a bitdi A6 with the speaker in the exhaust so a proper petrol V6 growl will be an upgrade in sound for me lol
Will consider a Res delete maybe.

Does anyone know if memory seats are standard? Dealer says it has them but doesn't have the numbered buttons on the drivers door

Not standard ! But I wish they were! Retrofit is expensive.
Res delete on standard exhaust creates a more raspy noise with 70mph drone - not my cup of tea.

If there's no number buttons the car hasn't got memory seats.

They weren't standard when I bought mine. Annoyingly they were "only" £200...but required £350 folding/dimming/memory mirrors to be added as well!
