Hi guys,

I am in the process of looking for a new or nearly new B9.5 S4 avant.

Currently my essential options are:

  • Matrix Lights
  • Adaptive Cruise

Does anyone else have experience of 'essential' options that once you've had them once - you'll never go without again?

Thanks

It depends how you're funding this. If PCH no, if PCP hell no. If you are buying outright, then matrix lights are good. Not worth the extra £££ the usual LEDs are fine. I've experience of both on a B9.5 A4 Avant and A5 Sportback

Buying outright and used/new/nearly new. Thanks for the advice, which surprises me. I had the HD Matrix on my A6 and it was a real game changer for me. The options don't seem to have quite as much effect on the value of the car on the used market. I am just trying to find a good one with lots of options for a good price!

Options by definition are individual preference. But, at just £195, the storage pack is great value. Likewise, in my opinion, only £300 for carbon inlays on a Black Edition effectively turns the interior into an RS4 and will probably help sell the car afterwards, just like choosing the right colour. The standard headlights are very good and don't feel the need to spend any more. Likewise, the Audi sound system is good enough for me (though the B&O is better).

The one option that's missing is memory seats (unless you pay +£10k for a Vorsprung). It baffles me how the entire car is customisable by user, except the one thing where it would actually be beneficial (assuming the car is shared and the other person is of different height etc).

Finally, check the monthly payments for the Black Edition - mine was £1 more a month but worth £1500 more after 3 years

Since the introduction of WLTP the number of options across the whole Audi range has been significantly reduced and typically replaced with 3 or 4 different levels of trim.

if you are buying new and matrix are a must then these are only available on the Vorsprung, which basically comes wit( everything already on it apart from the storage pack which is definitely worth having. it also comes with adaptive suspension which I’ve got on my S5 and would definitely recommend having

I had a b9 petrol S4 with all options box ticked (went mad..).

Adaptive cruise is available only with Tour pack, which is quite rare . Looking on autotrader today , precisely zero b9.5 new or used with Tour pack Either as optional or part of the Vorsprung crazy price version.
other essentials I found were Comfort and sound pack and light / vision pack and adaptive .The options are different on the newer b9.5 .

I think you’re looking at a factory order in all honesty .. though you can get good discounts but lead times are super long …

Cambridge Audi have a used Vorsprung

This is what my A4 has to give you food for thought

Im on the verge of delivery of an S4, been a 9 month wait since order so extremely long lead time with the RDE2 emission change and then chip shortage (I can only assume) for me key options were Matrix, adaptive suspension and radar cruise control with other assistant systems I had versions of these on my current car so didn't want to go backwards, left my only option to go Vorsprung which was annoying as I could have spent less on the options I wanted and done without things like Pano roof and electric seats.

Only other must have for me was the carbon inlays they made me fall in love with the interior on the press launch and I was turned off when I couldnt get them when they first launched.

Cheaper for a new factory order than that used one though if you don’t mind the wait...

Not quite sure I follow… How does adding the carbon atlas inlays turn the interior into an RS4 when both interiors are close to identical.
My B9 S4 had carbon inlays and my B9 RS4 now has Piano black and only changes to interior are steering wheel and gear selectors in different finish, and obviously full leather seats to alcantara & virtual cockpit in RS but those are options based.

Don't forget the door handles ;)

Comfort and sound pack, although you'll probably not find any built cars without. I also went for the black edition, deleting the chrome completely changes the look of the car from business to sport.

Hi all,

Thanks for your comprehensive replies. I took delivery of the new car this week and I am absolutely loving it.

The car was a pre-reg 'Launch' car with 120 Miles on the clock. The 'Launch' element supposedly means it it was specced by Audi UK & therefore has certain options which are only included in packs if you are to order from factory in the usual manner.

The car has:

Matrix Lights
Tour Pack
Interior Lighting Pack
Head Up Display
Carbon Inlays
360 Cameras

The one thing I am really missing which I had with my previous 2 Audis is the B&O - but I can get over it!

Also - I am usually all about de-chroming/black editions... However, I think that the chrome really works with the Tango Red.

Overall - Very happy with the new car and thanks for your help!

Looks great .., I have a launch edition S5 sportback which has more kit than a Vorsprung … though im not sure that it will hold its value as well as the “named“ model .
I like the chrome btw… a red BE would be quite aggressive perhaps ?

For me essential options are the top sound system which is B&O in Audis, a radio that has DAB for 5 Live Sports Extra for Test Match Special and Apple Car Play as Waze is far better than any manufacturer SatNav and has saved me hours avoiding traffic jams on regular occasions.

Thankfully these days the vast majority of cars have DAB and Apple Car Play.

Very nice.

How's the head up display? I've always been interested in that option but very ticked the box.
