Back to a S5 Again!

if it’s on all 4, looks like a poor refurb job or there was some contamination still on them prior to the lacquer coat going on. They are going to need doing so going back to the dealer and asking for them to either sort or make a contribution won’t cost you anything.

Lovely car Bells.

I haven’t owned a car anywhere near the size of your V6, but I have never seen an air box with even 10% of the detritus you found in there - is this common?

I’ve spoken to Audi UK this afternoon and they’ve said that all dealer work should be guaranteed for at least 12 months. However, as alloys are classed as wear and tear they are only covered for 6 months / 6250 miles, so if I go off the car collection date I’m within the claim period by 7 days! I’m currently waiting a call back as I got the impression the after sales manager didn’t want to speak to me when I called earlier, so they are investigating and will let me know. Based on previous interaction they are pretty useless, so I’ll give them until the end of tomorrow and then ring Audi UK back for them to pursue it as they’ve said they will help resolve it to my satisfaction which is good.

Thanks, I’m loving ownership so far!
The air box / intake is huge to be fair but I guess it’s due to the size of the engine. To be honest I wouldn’t normally have checked but I saw a post on a fb forum saying how much the B9’s get clogged up so thought I’d check mine and that was how it was. Service Intervals on that are pretty infrequent too so I’ll continue to keep an eye on it.

Lovely car and great spec too!
It's so hard to find one with the HUD and adaptive cruise control.

Thanks mate, I’m really happy with it. My previous S5 prior to this and my S3 didn’t have either of those options so they were quite a novelty at first. The salesman at the time said it was the highest spec used S5 the dealership had ever sold :tearsofjoy:

Heads up display is nice and really useful, adaptive cruise I’m not sold on as much, maybe it’s because I’ve never used it before or not had many long distance journeys thanks to covid but it seems a little jerky and has tapped the brakes seemingly at random on a few occasions which slightly unnerves me but it’s one of those it’s good to have and could potentially prevent an accident.

ACC is usually pretty smooth, both when braking and accelerating. There is also a switch on the cruise control stalk that lets you adjust how close you follow the car in front. I found it a bit weird at first but it’s actually very good especially in roadworks with average speed cameras etc. The main pain with it is when someone pulls into the lane in front of you it will slow the car in order to get back to the gap previously set.

If your experiencing the brakes being applied like a sharp tap then it’s the probably the pre sense system rather than the ACC. Bit unnerving at first, initially happened to me mid roundabout when someone pulled out in front of me and certainly got my attention. If it is, when it’s activated you should also get a warning sound and light on the VC.

For both systems you can adjust the sensitivity in one of the menus in the mmi.

Cheers I’ll have a look. I usually sit on the second closest. The closest setting is a bit too close for my liking and any further away than the second setting I think it invites people to pull out into the gap.

I’ll check the setting for pre-sense in the settings and see what it’s set at. It’s only done it a few times the worst experience was dual carriageway on my way back from collecting the car ironically. There was a dedicated lane for turning right across the traffic with a car sat in it waiting to go. I was in the fast lane with a car behind me overtaking someone on the left. As I approached the car waiting to turn right my car dabbed the brakes shaving about 10mph off my speed. I wasn’t going to hit anything as the car turning right was in it’s own dedicated lane, but the car following me honked and wondered what the heck I was doing it was so embarrassing :tearsofjoy:

bought a used b9 S5 with 20k on the clock in November from an approved dealer and my airbox was even worse. full of debris and leaves. got the vacuum out.

So an update on the alloy wheel saga, as a short summary I’ve got nowhere. Initially raised with the dealer and Audi UK officially on the 10th March.

Audi UK advised me that alloys would be classed as a wear and tear item on a used car and as such they would have a warranty period of 6months, which I luckily fell within by a few weeks. However they suggested I contact the dealership first to see who carried out the refurb and see what they suggested in terms of a fix.

After contacting the dealer I was told they would investigate and contact me back ASAP (after sales manger wasn’t interested in speaking to me), three days passed and no call back surprise surprise, so I contacted Audi UK and raised an official case and had a complaints manager assigned. I’ve had very little in terms of updates from either side and I’m doing all the chasing and I’m pretty hacked off to be honest.

The call I got on Monday morning topped it off, Audi UK rang and said are they ok to close the case down as it should be resolved because the dealership told them they’d be in contact to resolve it last week (W/C - 22/03), yet I’ve had zero contact from them! No update from either side again today so I’m going to chase Audi UK up tomorrow but they’ve not been much help so far.

Currently considering where to go with it next, I need to do some research online but maybe the motor ombudsmen or some form of credit card claim? It’s not a safety related issue but I don’t see why should I have to pay for 4 alloy refurbs in less than 6 months after I was told it had been ‘professionally done’ as part of the used approved Audi sales preparation process!

If it happened within less than 6 months then I think under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, it is assumed that the fault or defect was present at the time of sale. which makes Audi responsible for fixing it.

I would read up the consumer rights act legislation (can be found online and isn't really that complicated), and then send them a final letter before action giving them 10 days to respond. You should quote the relevant parts of the legislation.

If they don't get back to you, it's time to start court proceedings or a credit card claim.

Note: I'm not a lawyer, please do your own research.

Thanks mate, that legislation is what I’d come across online. I’m doing some reading up on Consumer Rights this week and will then write to them if I don’t receive any update.

I spoke to my Credit Card company and they are happy to assist which is good and said they will even run through the claim forms with me to support my case. Hopefully it won’t come to that but if needs be I’ll go down that route :icon thumright:

So just shy of a year and 7k miles the S5 is gone! It’s been a great car maybe the best I’ve owned with all the tech but my ownership experience was ruined by the issues with the sunroof, pretty much constant rattling and knocking - Audi eventually seemed to fix this in the past month by replacing the actual roof mechanism (over £1000 inc parts and labour - luckily I didn’t pay this after much arguing!) although even Audi themselves didn’t seem to think this would be a permanent fix and I didn’t fancy any more repair bills that I knew wouldn’t be covered under warranty.

A major service was also coming up and it needed 4 new tyres and brakes so when I got offered over 2k more than I paid for it I decided to part ways.

No idea what I’ll replace it with but I’m in no rush, I’ll likely wait a few months and see if car prices drop a bit. I like the A35’s and Golf R’s but I’m currently enjoying amazing mpg in a 1.4 8V A3 I’m sharing at the moment, admittedly missing the speed a bit :racer:

I’ve got a few bits taken off the car which will be going up on the classifieds if anyone’s interested, Audi Puddle Lights, Boot Liner and potentially my genuine carbon atlas interior inlays.

Sad to hear your experience was ruined.

How did you get the offer?

Have considered selling mine since used prices are decent now.

Would try motorway, WBAC (they are offering good money) and performance Audi dealers. Some have done well out of Wizzle too. I got cracking money via motorway

Yeah just frustrating more than anything especially as Sunroofs are exempt from all Audi warranties after 3 years!

Can’t complain at getting over £2k more back in just under a year though, minus fuel and insurance obviously. Especially as the servicing, tyres and brakes would’ve cost me over a grand if I’d kept it!

I originally put mine on Wizzle to get a rough idea of market value, but other than that searching auto trader for ‘high’ priced cars and contacting the sports / specialist car dealerships directly asking if they were looking for stock. Quite time consuming but it’s worth it. I would’ve got more privately obviously but didn’t want the hassle, especially with that sort of money involved.

Motorway didn’t work for me, valued my car before I took my private reg off, a week later I did it again and the valuation had lowered by over 3k based on my 17 plate reg :whistle2:

I know others have had good success recently though!

Wow, that is some drop. My initial valuation was ok, about £1500 more than WBAC, but once went through all options it had, price went up, but I said would only sell for x, so they put in their daily sale at that price and went for £400 more than that

Yeah thought it was odd, could’ve tried it I suppose but with such a big difference between what I’d been offered by the other dealer and their expected sale price I didn’t waste my time - plus the garage I sold it to was keen to get it this weekend and with the new reg coming out I didn’t want to risk missing out
