Ok back to the project chaps.
Collected the Bumper part of the project from @GDCAUDIA4B7 and well chuffed with it so a big thumbs up there.:thumbs up:

It's almost too good to repaint black but needs must.

A few things too prior to repainting.
The RS4 grille covers are too big, I did suspect they might be but hoped there may be a chance to cut them down a bit, sadly it won't work so new DTM vent covers are needed but not the end of the world.
As the DTM doesn't have foglamps I'll delete mine, not a loss as i don't go out in fog much anyway..lol

It has Headlamp wash but only grille PDC mounts so I'll need to sort out fixing the two offside sensors.

I have a plan for that.

So very pleased so far.

My plan for the missing PDC sensors is this.

As there is no mounting hole in the bumper at the moment and the sensor mounting point on the inside of the bumper is not there I'll need to fabricate something.

The sensor body is 22mm OD, I'll use a step drill to get a nice round 22mm hole in the bumper to start with.
The next part is to get a block of suitable material just big enough to hold the sensor securely and provide a secure pad on the bumper, use a 22mm holesaw to cut the retaining hole in the block.

Affix the block to the bumper with tiger seal, when all set, insert the sensor through the block and secure it in place, that way the sensor will be secure and I can adjust the position of the sensor until the face is flush with the surface of the bumper, it will look as OE as you'd get that way.

A pretty low-cost solution that should work fine.

Using something like this to fabricate small mounting block for the sensors.
lightweight , strong and easily worked , very bondable aswell.

As you've already said Rob the oem sensor mounts are upto the job. I used second hand ones and cleaned them up and re applied some bew adhesive and they've been spot on so far. Might be work getting hold of some adhesion promoter too before sticking them on:icon thumright:

Cheers chaps for the feedback re the PDC, spot on as usual.:icon thumright:

Going to have another think about chopping the rs4 fog covers around a bit to suit, i have a plan..

I'm thinking that maybe a case of picking up a set of used DTM covers cutting out the mesh so i just have the outerframe then cutting out the area i require inc the foglamp section from the rs4 covers.
Then a case of rebuilding the two parts, sounds doable , will need to find a set of used DTM vent covers first as I'm not spending £100 for a new pair just to cut them up...

For a short while today I thought I'd solved the grille cover problem as the Audi S4 B7 25 Quattro
also has the DTM bumper as OE fitting, I noticed a few with foglamp grill covers but as yet the source of the covers has illuded me.

Bumper off to the paint shop next week so I need to sort out what grille colour to use.
I love the current colour scheme it has but that just won't work on my black bus which is a real shame.
I think I will be getting the grille surround done in satin silver again to ad some contrast, too much black otherwise.
Next item, Rings or no Rings that is the question.

The current grille fitted to the DTM bumper has no rings and looks good, I like the looks of rings but maybe too much on this grille.

thoughts guys.

Grill looks fine as it is, if you fit chrome rings it would just break up the black.

I think you're right Richard, nice to have another pair of eyes on it.:thumbs up:

Black surround on black bumper?

Love that ! although maybe if your going without the rings a black surround might look a bit too ‘dark’
Satin will bring out the grill and tie in with window trims
Certainly is a difficult choice ,it’ll look great whatever you go for

I think it needs a satin silver surround if not using rings, its a tricky one.

has to be satin silver , this is an rs4 bumper but very similar style to dtm and black with satin silver looks nice , and leave the rings off.

my first OE rs4 grill with gloss black surround, I'm not sure still, different pics of the same grille on the same car that look very different.

Or buy a 2nd grill with a silver surround with rings and see which looks best out of the two fitted.

I’d go satin silver grille, no rings I think.

Can always add rings at a later date

Satin silver would look nice and add some contrast. What ever you do Rob don't loose the rings or plate holder, it looks properly naff:thumbs up:
